Milf Cashback System:Every beauty I spend on makes me richer

His mother was sitting at the kitchen table when he got home that evening, the television on behind her with the sound turned low, his own face frozen mid-sentence on the screen from some clip the news had looped for the third time that hour.

The apartment smelled faintly of the tea she made when she couldn’t sleep, and the light over the stove was the only one on, casting long shadows across the counter.

She didn’t turn around right away. ”You’re late.”

”Busy day.” He set his bag down by the door, already reading the set of her shoulders. ”You saw it.”

”Everyone’s seen it, Liam.” She finally turned to face him, arms crossed, not angry exactly, something closer to overwhelmed. ”My son. On the news. Standing next to some lawyer, some fraud case, some rich man losing his company.” She shook her head slowly. ”When were you going to tell me any of this?”

”I didn’t want you worrying.”

”I’m your mother. Worrying is the job.” She gestured at the chair across from her, and he sat, the same chair he’d sat in for a hundred conversations that had started this exact way.

”Start from the part that makes sense to me. How does the manager of a gaming café end up in court against some big shot?”

He let the word sit there a second, manager, and felt the shape of the lie settle into place easier than he expected.

”Grace used to come by the café sometimes. I got to know her a little. When I found out what Harrison had done to her, I couldn’t just ignore it.”

He kept his voice even, close enough to the truth that none of it felt like performance. ”I helped connect her with people who could actually do something. A lawyer. People with resources. I didn’t run the case, Mom. I just refused to look away from it.”

She studied him a long moment, the kind of look she’d been giving him since he was small, the one that used to catch him in half-truths about homework and curfews and had never once, as far as he could remember, actually failed to catch one. The television light flickered across her face, his own frozen image still glowing faintly behind her.

”That’s not nothing,” she said finally. ”That’s not what a manager does in his spare time.”

”Maybe I care more than the job description says I should.”

That got a small, tired smile out of her, some of the tension leaving her shoulders. ”You’ve always been like that. Even as a boy.”

She reached across the table and took his hand, briefly, the way she used to when he was younger and something had scared him, her palm dry and warm and familiar. ”I just wish you’d trusted me with it.”

”I know.” He held her hand a second longer than necessary. ”I’m sorry.”

”Are people going to keep showing up outside that cafe?”

”Probably, for a while.”

She sighed, glancing back at the television, his own face still paused there mid-sentence like an argument he’d never finish making.

”Your aunt called twice already. And the women at the market wouldn’t stop asking me questions I didn’t have answers for.” Her eyes came back to him, sharp again despite the tiredness. ”Are you in some kind of trouble, Liam?”

”No trouble.” He met her eyes and didn’t look away, which was, he’d learned a long time ago, the only way to survive a lie told to someone who could read every other tell he had. ”I promise you that.”

She held his gaze another moment, and whatever she saw there seemed to satisfy her enough to let it go, at least for tonight. The television murmured on behind her, forgotten now, some anchor moving on to the next story as if his face hadn’t just spent an hour looping across the screen.

”Well.” She stood, smoothing her skirt, already moving toward the stove. ”Whatever you did, that woman looked like she’d been given her whole life back on that screen. I’ll say that much for you.”

”She has been, mostly.”

”Good.” His mother paused at the counter, looking back at him with something softer now. ”That’s worth more than any of this fuss outside your shop, you know. Whatever else happens.”

He almost told her everything right then, the system, the villa, the number sitting untouched in an account she didn’t know existed.

The words came right up to the edge of his mouth and stopped there, the way they always did lately, he wasn’t ready to let loose in this kitchen, at this hour, with her standing there.

He didn’t. Not because he didn’t trust her, but some things needed more room to explain than the kitchen table could hold, and because some part of him still wanted to protect the version of his life where she only had to worry about the ordinary things The kind a mother was meant to carry.

He stepped into the hallway a moment later, needing a second alone, leaned against the wall, and closed his eyes.

Since the verdict, this was the closest he’d let himself actually believe it was over not the whole of it, not everything still moving in the dark around Harrison’s name, but this part, at least. His mother, still asking questions instead of grieving answers.

That much, he’d take. His phone rang before the feeling had time to settle. Grace.

He glanced back toward the kitchen, where his mother waved him off with a tired, knowing look, already reaching for the kettle, steam beginning to gather at its spout.

”Take it,” she said. ”Sounds important.”

He answered, phone against his ear, and the moment he did, he could hear it in the first breath she took before speaking at all.

”Liam?” Grace’s voice cracked on the single syllable, thick with something that hadn’t fully decided yet whether it was laughter or tears. ”Liam, I don’t even know where to start”
