I Cultivate in a Government Office

Chapter 197: Chapter 119: The Investigation Team Is Stationed in Lingshan Town

The method Director He Zhou proposed was a tactic the City Defense Bureau often used a century ago when developing the islands. However, times had changed, and such measures were no longer appropriate.

Before anyone from Qianjiao County could voice an opinion, Director Shen Wenyuan, seated at the head of the table, responded with a chuckle, ”Director He’s suggestion comes from a desire to solve the case quickly and deter crime, which certainly has its merits. But given the actual situation in Lingshan Town, we cannot take that approach.”

His tone then shifted. ”Our colleagues in the county are more familiar with the local situation and have already done a great deal of preliminary work. Abruptly replacing the entire team or adopting such drastic measures could provoke unnecessary turmoil and hinder the continuity of the work that follows. Besides, the provincial government has clear requirements for the stable development of Lingshan Town.”

His gaze shifted to Zhang Qiming and Gao Zhen. ”Director Qiming, you two know the situation on the ground best. Regarding this investigation team, does your county bureau have any initial thoughts? What are your ideas for the investigation’s framework and principles? The city can coordinate resources, but the actual execution will still fall to you.”

Zhang Qiming and Gao Zhen exchanged a look. Zhang Qiming then cleared his throat and said,

”Director Shen, Director Qi, Director He, esteemed leaders, our branch bears an inescapable responsibility for what has happened. Regarding the investigation team, we’ve had preliminary internal discussions. We believe this case involves the complex development environment in Lingshan Town as well as numerous prior incidents. The investigation must be both thorough and meticulous, while also minimizing any disruption to the overall development project.”

”Therefore, the team leader must be someone who possesses unwavering principles, extensive investigative experience, and the necessary courage and sense of responsibility.”

He paused, looking at Gao Zhen beside him. ”Vice Director Gao recommended the head of the Major Case Team, Yang Wenqing. Wenqing has outstanding professional abilities. He recently led the successful investigation into the cult case and already has some familiarity with leads related to Lingshan Town. I personally believe he is a suitable choice.”

This answer stunned Yang Wenqing, who immediately looked toward Vice Director Gao. ’It’s obvious the two of them must have struck some kind of deal.’

Vice Director Gao chimed in at the perfect moment, his tone earnest. ”Director Shen, I’ve watched Wenqing come up through the ranks. He can handle pressure when it counts, and his investigative methods are sound. With him taking the lead, our branch will offer its full support to ensure the investigation team operates efficiently. At the same time, we humbly request guidance and support from the municipal bureau and the Civil Affairs Bureau when needed.”

Shen Wenyuan listened, his gaze turning to the two deputy directors from the municipal Civil Affairs Bureau and County Magistrate Wang. ”What are the thoughts from the Civil Affairs Bureau? I suggest the deputy leader of the investigation team be appointed by the County Civil Affairs Bureau to facilitate coordination.”

County Magistrate Wang was quick to respond. ”The municipal leaders can rest assured. The County Civil Affairs Bureau will resolutely support the branch’s actions. We will appoint a capable official to serve as deputy leader and will fully cooperate with the investigation team to ensure all directives are carried out smoothly!”

Only then did Shen Wenyuan give a slight nod. His gaze seemed to sweep past Yang Wenqing’s direction without lingering, finally settling back on Zhang Qiming and Gao Zhen. ”Since the county bureau has a well-considered plan and the Civil Affairs Bureau is also on board, then, in principle, I agree to appoint Yang Wenqing as the leader of this joint investigation team.”

His tone grew heavier. ”However, you are not going on vacation. The investigation team has one month. Within one month, I want to see substantive progress and a clear conclusion. This isn’t just about solving a case; it’s also about whether Lingshan Town can truly get on the right track. If there are no results in a month, every single one of you in this room will be held accountable.”

The remainder of the meeting was spent discussing the miscellaneous details of forming the investigation team. Just over ten minutes later, the meeting officially concluded.

After a brief silence, Zhang Qiming looked at Yang Wenqing and said,

”Wenqing, this trip to Lingshan Town carries a heavy burden and immense pressure. To ensure the investigation goes smoothly, and to bolster your strength, I suggest you take Wu Qianjun with you. He previously assisted with the investigation into the collapse case in Lingshan Town, so he’s quite familiar with the situation there. His skills and abilities are reliable. He can serve as your second-in-command and help cover any gaps.”

Yang Wenqing knew perfectly well that this was part of the deal struck between Vice Director Gao and Director Zhang, so he nodded in agreement. ”That’s a thorough consideration, Director Zhang. Captain Wu is experienced, and his assistance will certainly help us make faster progress. I have no objection.”

Vice Director Gao then spoke up again. ”Just a few of you won’t be enough. Lingshan Town is full of all sorts of characters right now. I’ll dispatch an elite squad from the Operations Division to assist you. They will be responsible for perimeter security and emergency support.”

”Thank you for your support, Vice Director Gao,” Yang Wenqing said gratefully, then added, ”I’d also like to request a squad of experienced Government Soldiers, equipped with heavy firepower, to accompany us.”

Director Zhang considered it for a moment. ”Alright. I’ll handle the coordination. I’ll have an answer for you in half an hour.”

With that, he turned and left the conference room. Deputy Director Zhou then came forward, told Yang Wenqing to be careful, and also departed. Vice Director Gao left right after, obviously heading off to select his operations team.

Yang Wenqing stood quietly for a moment, processing the mounting pressure from the meeting and the subtle attitudes of everyone involved. He then turned and walked briskly back to his office in the Major Case Team headquarters.

On the way, he instructed Liu Qin to tell Li Yue and Sun Yi to hurry back and to prepare all the materials on Lingshan Town.

Back in his office, Liu Qin was already waiting. A map of Lingshan Town and some initial files were spread out on the desk.

”Group Leader Yang, Li Yue and Sun Yi have been notified. They’re on their way now,” Liu Qin reported briskly.

Just then, there was a knock on his office door.
