I Cultivate in a Government Office

Chapter 155: Chapter 103: Expanded Meeting 3

At this point, his tone took a subtle shift:

”Wu Qianjun is certainly capable, but he has long been handling cases in the field. His style leans more toward proactive strikes and resolving isolated incidents. However, the initial management of the New Town’s patrol team and the handling of emergencies will primarily involve reactive responses and situation control. This requires someone who can remain calm under pressure, act in accordance with laws and regulations, and effectively deter lawbreakers. This skill set may not be a perfect match for Wu Qianjun’s particular talents.”

Director Zhang’s brow furrowed even deeper. He could hear the hidden meaning in Deputy Director Zhou’s words.

As if he hadn’t noticed Director Zhang’s expression, Deputy Director Zhou continued with a smile, ”Of course, this is just a half-baked idea of my own. The final decision is up for discussion. If sending two people seems feasible, then Director Zhang could always select another capable officer who is a better fit.”

He had just kicked the ball back into Director Zhang’s court, even ”helpfully” reminding him that he could choose someone else.

Director Zhang’s expression remained unchanged, but his mind was racing, weighing the options.

’Although Deputy Director Zhou’s suggestion to split the role has disrupted my plans, it presents a viable fallback option.’

’If I insist on sending only Wu Qianjun, the risks will be high. Deputy Director Zhou has already expressed his doubts about his suitability, Vice Director Gao is firmly opposed, and both Wang Ren and Yang Wenqing—who is about to speak—would also likely raise objections. Forcing it through might even provoke a more intense confrontation.’

’It’s better to go with the flow and agree to send two people. At least that way, I can get my man into the position with real power—overseeing the patrol team and emergencies—and secure half the control. As for Liu Min, a civilian coordinator won’t be able to cause much trouble.’

Having come to this conclusion, Director Zhang put a smile back on his face and turned to Vice Director Gao. ”Deputy Director Zhou’s proposal is quite constructive. Vice Director Gao, what do you think?”

He tossed the decision to Vice Director Gao, to see if he would accept this power-sharing arrangement.

Vice Director Gao met Deputy Director Zhou’s gaze, his own eyes calm, as if trying to read something behind the other man’s gentle smile.

’Deputy Director Zhou’s behavior today is highly unusual,’ he thought. ’First he abstained, and now he’s proposing a compromise that clearly checks Director Zhang. But regardless of his motives, the plan is acceptable to us.’

”Deputy Director Zhou has been very thorough in his considerations.” Vice Director Gao nodded slowly. ”I agree to assign two people with divided responsibilities.”

Seeing Vice Director Gao agree, Director Zhang felt a sense of finality and immediately said, ”Good! Then it’s settled. We’ll post two people. Liu Min will be responsible for daily coordination. As for the person in charge of the patrol team and emergencies...”

He paused thoughtfully, his gaze sweeping over the faces of several section chiefs before finally landing on the Chief of Public Security.

This neutral Chief of Public Security understood the unspoken command and immediately replied, ”Director, Zheng Hu, the patrol captain from the West City Public Security Office, is a good choice. He’s a thirty-five-year veteran with extremely rich grassroots experience. He has handled all sorts of civil disputes and public security incidents, and he has a steady, decisive personality. I believe he is more than qualified for this post.”

Director Zhang was clearly quite satisfied with this candidate. He nodded. ”Alright, let’s tentatively select Zheng Hu. Vice Director Gao, Deputy Director Zhou, what are your thoughts?”

Vice Director Gao nodded. ”I know Zheng Hu. His field experience is impeccable. He’ll do.”

Deputy Director Zhou also chimed in with a smile, ”Zheng Hu is a reliable man. He’s suitable.”

”Good!”

Director Zhang banged the gavel, so to speak. ”For the public security of the Lingshan Town Preparatory Office, we will post Liu Min and Zheng Hu. Liu Min will be in charge of daily coordination and liaison, and Zheng Hu will be responsible for overseeing the patrol team and handling emergencies. The relevant appointments and procedures are to be processed immediately after this meeting. Get them in position as soon as possible!”

And so, a personnel dispute that had seemed poised for intense conflict came to an unexpected conclusion, all thanks to Deputy Director Zhou’s sudden compromise.

Yang Wenqing secretly breathed a sigh of relief.
