55: Chapter 055: The Demon Clan Appears!

As the dew grew heavier and the latter half of the night approached, the temperature in Luofeng Canyon suddenly plummeted.

The howls of beasts in the vicinity grew more frequent, eerily reminiscent of ghostly wails and wolfish howls.

The starlight dimmed, and Ling Feng furrowed his brow, a strong sense of unease welling up in his heart.

He had deviated from the route Lee Liang had given him.

However, logically speaking, this should still be the outer area of Luofeng Canyon; encountering any powerful demons here seemed unlikely.

Suddenly!

A faint sound reached Ling Feng’s ears.

He shot to his feet, his gaze sharply focusing, and beheld an astonishing sight.

A demon that resembled a fox, its body enshrouded in a thin layer of black smoke, moved with light and swift steps, like a flash of lightning.

It easily bypassed the early warning devices set up around the mountain cave by Lo Jianying and his team and was silently approaching their location.

“What kind of demon is this, possessing such high intelligence!”

Ling Feng’s eyebrows knitted together, and he immediately shouted, “Get up, everyone, a demon is approaching!”

Hearing Ling Feng’s call, the demon appeared to be taken aback.

However, a flash of cold light in its sanguine pupils betrayed its shock, and it suddenly stood upright on two legs, accelerating towards the direction of the mountain cave.

Ling Feng’s roar startled awake the team members inside the cave.

One by one, they grabbed their weapons and rushed out.

However, when they saw the upright-standing demon, they all jumped in shock.

Not only was the demon standing on two legs, but it also wielded a large bone stick, seemingly fashioned from a beast bone.

A weapon-wielding demon?

“This… this is no ordinary demon; it’s a member of the Demon Clan!” Jiang Wanqing, being a True Disciple in the Magnetic Condensation Realm, had much broader knowledge than the others.

“Demon Clan?” Lo Jianying’s pupils suddenly constricted.

“How could the Luofeng Canyon have members of the Demon Clan?”

Members of the Demon Clan, distinct from ordinary demons, possessed human-like intelligence and practiced cultivation, even forming their own powers and kingdoms.

They were born with a natural talent for profound cultivation, greatly surpassing ordinary humans.

If not for their lower reproductive capabilities compared to humans, the entire Xuanling Continent might have been dominated by the Demon Clan.

Throughout the history of Xuanling Continent, humans and the Demon Clan had fought countless wars, with both sides suffering severe casualties.

As the saying goes, those of a different kind have different intentions.

Both the Demon Clan and the Human Clan plotted relentlessly to exterminate the other.

Regrettably, neither side had been able to achieve a decisive victory over the millenia.

And after every great war, there would be a few hundred years of relative stability.

This current period was one of those stable eras.

Humans occupied large cities and fortifications, while the Demon Clan claimed the vast wilderness.

Such was the state of affairs in this era.

Though Luofeng Canyon was technically part of the wilderness, it was in reality, a training ground for several sects and fell within human territories.

Normally, it would be free of Demon Clan activity.

Thus, there was only one explanation.

This demon, resembling a fox, must have successfully mutated on its own.

The Demon Clan originally evolved from ordinary demons, so it was perfectly reasonable for such a mutation to occur.

“Never mind why there is a member of the Demon Clan here; let’s slaughter it first!” Ling Feng suddenly drew his Mo Yuan Sword.

The purpose of their mission was to have team members slay demons, which didn’t include members of the Demon Clan.

Having never dealt with the Demon Clan before, Ling Feng decided to take matters into his own hands for safety.

“Jiang Wanqing, have everyone else stay inside the cave.

Leave this member of the Demon Clan to me!” With a sweep of his long sword, Ling Feng deployed the Carefree Sword Step.

His movements became as if possessed by an Immortal Cloud, and with a few leaps, he rushed in front of the demon.

Clang!

Ling Feng thrust his sword, targeting the demon’s eyes with a vicious stab.

A flicker of surprise crossed the blood-colored eyes of the demon; the human’s speed exceeded its expectations.

Even though his aura wasn’t particularly strong, he managed to burst forth at a terrifying speed in an instant.

Grasping its bone stick, the demon swung it forcefully, crashing it against Ling Feng’s long sword.

Screech!

The bone stick clashed with the sword blade, sparking tiny flames, and Ling Feng’s hand went numb, his eyebrows deeply furrowed.

The brute force of the Demon Clan was truly astonishing.

Had it not been for the “Xuanyuan Forging Pulse Pill” given to him by Sect Leader Lin Canglang, and the achievements of his Rock Body, the blow just now would likely have sent his long sword flying out of his hand.

The demon roared and struck back with a claw swipe, viciously tearing down.

In addition to wielding weapons, the Demon Clan had not forgotten their innate use of sharp claws and fangs.

Suddenly, a faint dark mist of demon energy burst forth, intending to eviscerate the human before it.

“Scram!”

Ling Feng’s sword qi swept through the air, flashing with a dark red light.

The fire attribute True Qi ignited the sword qi of the Dusk Sword Technique, and a surge of scorching heat rose up.

The demon seemed somewhat afraid of fire and hastily retreated a few steps.

However, Ling Feng’s sword had already slashed down.

“Blood-colored setting sun!”

The killing move of the Dusk Sword Technique exploded.

In the air, fire light was robust, and the pitch-black long sword emitted a red glow.

With a “swoosh”, the sword light flashed, and the demon, unable to dodge in time, had half of its steel-like sharp claw sheared off.

“Howl howl…”

The demon cried out in pain, roaring as it did.

Its pair of sharp claws could compete with a Xuan Artifact-level weapon, but fortunately, Ling Feng’s Mo Yuan Sword had been tempered a thousand times by Elder Can Jian and had reached the level of a top-grade Profound Artifact.

Otherwise, this clash might not have had such an effect.

But this sword had completely enraged the demon, which became even more vicious and brutal in its roars.

Every part of its body could be a deadly weapon—sharp claws, ferocious fangs, long tail…

Combined with the beast bone stick in its hand, it seemed to go berserk, recklessly exchanging injury for injury in its attempt to kill Ling Feng.

Demons naturally possess an advantage in body size, and whether in terms of defense or recovery power, they are far stronger than humans.

The Demon Clan’s body, being that of a demonic beast, also has these attributes.

For a time, dust swirled, sword qi surged, and one human and one demon tangled fiercely.

The demon’s body was riddled with sword holes, while Ling Feng’s body had also acquired numerous claw marks.

In such times, the effectiveness of the Rock Body Refining Technique Ling Feng had chosen was evident.

Had it not been for Rock Body, just that claw strike to his chest would have been enough to kill him.

“Jiao Long Zhen Canghai!”

Ling Feng swept away the demon’s beast bone stick with one sword, exposing the chest area of the open demon.

Ling Feng seized the opportunity and punched fiercely with the “Nine-layered Sea Suppressing Fist,” hitting the beast’s chest.

Boom!

In the void, a shadowy figure of a Jiao Long appeared, dancing amidst churning seas, causing waves of shock and awe.

That overwhelming force instantly breached the demon’s defenses.

“Sss!”

The demon was sent flying over ten meters, its pair of sharp claws leaving six deep gouges on the ground; a pair of blood-colored eyes glaring viciously at Ling Feng.

Blood stained its pelt red from the wounds on its chest, dripping steadily onto the ground.

But there was no sign of heavy injury; instead, it seemed further provoked, its eyes redder with blood as it roared and lunged viciously once again.

“He’s still not dead!” Ling Feng marveled at the demon’s powerful life force, feeling somewhat spent after his successive bursts of killing moves.

“Not good, he can’t hold off by himself!”

Jiang Wanqing clenched her silver teeth, drew her sword, and said to Lo Jianying without looking back, “You stay here, I’ll go help him!”
