Wizard: I Add Points and Hunt Monsters

Chapter 72: Chapter 64: The Faith-Bearing Body

Marco glanced in the direction the men had gone. ”Was that them?”

”Yes,” Old Ross said, the wrinkles on his face deepening under the light of the wall sconce. ”The Natali District always has its share of scoundrels.”

Natali District?

Wei’en thought about the district’s peculiarities and asked, ”Are they nobles?”

”No, just some poor wretches who failed to awaken their family’s Extraordinary Bloodline.”

Marco’s expression darkened. ”But other members of their families still hold considerable power or have awakened an Extraordinary Bloodline, which allows these guys to run wild.”

”I see...”

”Let’s go. There are people who will take care of that.” Old Ross turned and headed deeper down the hallway, speaking as he walked. ”I didn’t want to trouble you if it wasn’t necessary, Marco.”

”Right.” Marco took a deep breath. ”Let’s hurry. If we’re early enough, we can even grab a couple of drinks at the tavern upstairs.”

”Sure. Hmm? On second thought, never mind. Don’t you have to go wrap things up?”

”Oh, right. I almost forgot what I was here for.”

Marco reverted to his carefree demeanor, a smile returning to his face. ”But when we get back, you can’t tell Lisi I brought you here... She’ll kill me.”

”Of course.”

Wei’en nodded, glancing back one more time. A flicker of light appeared deep in the opposite hallway, but the armored guards from before were nowhere to be seen.

’An aberration, maybe? Lost control?’

Thinking back to the nobles who had fled in a panic... he felt as if he had guessed the truth of the matter.

’It’s true. No matter where you go, there’s always a dark side.’

”We’re here.”

Old Ross led the two of them to an iron door and tapped a small bell next to it. ”Just tell her what you want. I have other matters to attend to, so I’ll take my leave.”

Marco waved a hand. ”You’d better hurry up and clean that mess. I don’t want it to haunt me the next time I visit.”

”As you wish.”

Old Ross gave a slight bow and turned away with an elegant stride.

’Elegant...’

Wei’en found it hard to believe he would ever use that word to describe a man, an old man at that.

And yet, Old Ross’s conduct and bearing were truly refined.

Whether walking or speaking, his posture was always ramrod straight, his chin tucked slightly inward, giving him an air of great politeness.

Marco pushed the door open and walked straight in. When he saw the person inside, a brilliant smile spread across his face. ”Lady Mitra, good afternoon.”

’Lady?’

Wei’en, following behind him, paused for a fraction of a second before continuing inside, feigning a natural stride.

[You have witnessed the corporeal vessel of the Lord of Desire, Mitra (the Favored One). Evaluation: Hmm, you are powerless. Special Reward: Origin +1, Spirit Level +1, Resilience Level +1.]

[You have learned the name of the Lord of Desire, Mitra. Evaluation: A smart person would pretend to know nothing right now. To be blunt, do not attract her attention under any circumstances. Special Reward: Origin +2, Spirit Level +2, Resilience Level +2.]

[Note: Due to your presence in a special area, the distribution of rewards has been delayed.]

’This is bad. The panel doesn’t even dare to give me the rewards now. Is it afraid of attracting her attention?’

Wei’en immediately went on high alert. Standing just behind and to the side of Marco, he stole a glance at the woman called Mitra.

He saw Mitra reclining lazily on a sofa. Her sapphire-like eyes gazed at them hazily, and her flushed cheeks, as if she had just had a few glasses of wine, radiated a captivating charm.

She wore only a simple dress, which strained against her chest. Two points pressed against the fabric, swaying from side to side as if trying to break free from their confinement.

Her two long, shapely legs were propped up on the desk. A hint of the tight gap between them could be seen hidden just below the edge of the desk, looking exceptionally deep and alluring.

Wei’en only took one look before hastily averting his gaze.

But his face instantly flushed crimson, and he felt the blood surge through his veins...

[You have been influenced by the origin of the Lord of Desire, Mitra (the Favored One). Your Spirit Level has temporarily dropped to 34. Evaluation: First time learning that desire can be triggered through the eyes. Special Reward: Survival Points +3, Spirit Level +1.]

’What the hell does it mean, ”triggered through the eyes”?’

’Doesn’t it just mean I got interested after taking a look?’

’Isn’t that what any normal man would do?’

Fine.

Wei’en had to admit it wasn’t exactly normal. He’d already been warned, and he still fell for it...

”Are you alright, Wei’en?”

Wei’en snapped back to his senses. Seeing Marco’s concerned expression, he shook his head. ”I’m... I’m fine.”

”Good,”

Marco said, then made the introduction. ”This is Lady Mitra of Nocturnal City. Just tell her what you need.”

”I was wondering if you might have the items on this list?”

Wei’en pulled the prepared parchment from his pocket and placed it on the desk. He kept his eyes fixed on the quill holder on the desk, with no intention of looking up.

’He already knew this woman was trouble. How could he dare to be anything but cautious?’

But his behavior, paradoxically, drew Mitra’s attention.

She took the parchment but didn’t look at it. Instead, she sized up Wei’en. ”Marco, this... young colleague of yours seems rather afraid of me?”

Her voice was very similar to Clelia’s, but there was a subtle difference.

In comparison, Mitra’s voice was even more languid and soft, like falling into cotton candy, laced with a faint sweetness.

”His name is Wei’en. He’s just come of age...” Marco patted Wei’en’s shoulder. ”It’s his first time seeing a woman as beautiful as you, so it’s natural for him to be a little overwhelmed.”

”You always did have a way with words.”

Mitra accepted his explanation and glanced at the contents of the parchment. ”Let’s see... Oh, a Wizard Apprentice from the Ghost Soul School?”

’Huh?’

’Can she see the ghost and the driver and the others?’

Now he was more certain than ever that there was something wrong with the line in the apprentice handbook: ”No one can detect the existence of the Origin Sub-body, except those within the school or those with special Extraordinary traits”...

With this in mind, Wei’en hastily nodded. ”Yes, Lady Mitra.”

”That’s quite a lot of things. One moment.”

With that, Mitra rose and walked toward a room behind her, leaving only her enchanting silhouette behind.

”Take your time, milady. We’re in no hurry.”

Marco’s eyes were glued to her, as if trying to burn her image into his mind.

”So? What do you think?”

Wei’en let out a small sigh of relief. ”What do I think about what?”

”Don’t play dumb. Isn’t Lady Mitra gorgeous?” Marco said with a wicked grin.

”...She is.”

Wei’en had to admit, the corporeal vessel of the Lord of Desire was indeed alluring.

And it was the alluring quality of a fruit ripened to perfection.

He could even feel his heart pounding, THUMP-THUMP-THUMP, as the beautiful sight he had just witnessed replayed endlessly in his mind.

’Damn it,’

’It seems I’m not free of her influence yet. This is terrible.’

Just then, a blue notification appeared in his mind.

[You were being eroded by the Power of Faith of Desire. Your Spirit Level is above 30, so you successfully resisted the erosion. Evaluation: Are you seeing things? Special Reward: Spirit Level +2, Resilience Level +2.]

Wei’en was speechless. ”...”

’He wasn’t desperate for a few attribute points. Did the system really have to rub it in with a notification like that...?’
