The Sea Queen of 1985

Chapter 194: Chapter 194: Eye-Opening Ornamental Fish

There were many kinds of angelfish alone.

There were Blue-Girdled Angelfish, Three-Spot Angelfish, Flame Angelfish, Halfmoon Angelfish...

Their body shapes were similar, the main difference being the patterns on their bodies.

There was also a sea fish that was a lovely, tender yellow all over.

It was called the Yellow Tang, also known by names like the Black-gilled Surgeonfish, Chocolate Surgeonfish, and Red-fire Surgeonfish.

Native to the tropical waters of the Pacific and Indian Oceans, it was a medium-sized saltwater fish. It grew to be 15 to 20 centimeters long. Its body was nearly round with a small, terminal mouth, large eyes, and a rounded, truncate tail fin.

When it came to ornamental fish, the Moorish Idol was a must-mention, with its beautiful shape and black-and-white coloration, interspersed with a bit of yellow.

There were several kinds of clownfish, too: Red Clownfish, Ocellaris Clownfish, Pink Skunk Clownfish, and Maroon Clownfish.

Over a dozen species of saltwater ornamental fish swam back and forth in the tank.

The rockery and pebbles looked great, but the plastic seaweed looked a bit fake.

It would be even more beautiful if they could cultivate live seaweed.

But time was a bit tight right now, and they hadn’t prepared for it. In the future, they could slowly figure out which beautiful and easy-to-care-for aquatic plants to grow in the tank.

Chen Zhipeng was too captivated to speak. He stood up, walked over to the tank, and praised admiringly, ”Zhigang, Xiao Rui, these ornamental fish are truly beautiful.”

”I can give you a definite answer right now: ornamental fish can be exported. As long as you prepare the fish, my company will handle all the other procedures.”

”Also, I heard you want to participate in the foreign trade fair in five days. I can spare a 2x3 meter booth for you, six square meters in total. I’ll have someone contact you tomorrow to go see the booth space, and you can start working on some decorations.”

His company already had a large exhibition area, so freeing up a little space was doable.

Chen Zhipeng felt this would be an excellent export category.

Han Xiaorui quickly thanked him, ”Thank you so much, Uncle Chen. We’ll definitely do our best.”

After having dinner at the Chen family’s home, the three of them took Song Sixth’s van back.

They agreed to go check out the booth together once they heard from Chen Zhipeng.

Just as they got home, Han Xiaoqing, who was still awake, said, ”Sis, Brother Ye called. He said he has something to talk to you about.”

Han Xiaorui was taken aback. ’What could Ye Feng want with me?’

”It’s getting late. You should get to bed. I’ll call him back and ask.”

”Okay, Sis. Get some rest after your call.” Han Xiaoqing was concerned; her sister was working so hard, running all over the place every day.

Han Xiaorui chuckled softly. ”Mm, I know.”

The phone only rang a few times before it was answered.

”Xiao Rui, is that you?” Ye Feng asked.

Han Xiaorui affirmed, ”Ye Feng, you were looking for me?”

’We just went on a date yesterday, what more could there be to talk about!’

’Besides, phone calls are so expensive these days.’

Ye Feng laughed. ”After I got back yesterday, I mentioned to Uncle Xu that you have an ornamental fish farm and want to export. Uncle Xu’s son, Xu Shu, graduated from Hong Kong University. He doesn’t want a regular job and is looking to start his own business, but he hasn’t found a good project yet.”

”Uncle Xu thinks the ornamental fish project sounds great and wants to visit your farm tomorrow. If you can really guarantee they’ll survive for thirty days during transport, he thinks this business is viable.”

Han Xiaorui’s eyes widened. ”He’s welcome, of course, he’s welcome! We’ve already run tests. With proper shipping, we can guarantee it.”

Ye Feng nodded. ”Alright, then I’ll bring Uncle Xu over tomorrow. As long as we can confirm the quality of the fish is high, it won’t be difficult to open up sales channels in Hong Kong, Southeast Asia, Japan, South Korea, Europe and America.”

The Xu family had business interests in these regions. It wouldn’t be too difficult for Xu Shu to start a business, even if he didn’t want to join the family’s main enterprises.

As long as he could find a good project, he could leverage the Xu family’s connections to sell not only to Hong Kong and Southeast Asia, but also to Japan, South Korea, and the United States.

”Yes, I went with Uncle Yang to an import-export trading company today to ask about it. They said we can export, and they’ll handle the relevant inspections, quarantines, and export procedures, so we don’t have to worry about it.”

Ye Feng had originally planned to introduce Han Xiaorui to a relevant export company, but since she had already found one, there was no need.

”That’s great,” Ye Feng praised. ”See you tomorrow.”

Han Xiaorui was in high spirits. With this string of good news, she felt that exporting the ornamental fish should be no problem.

「The next day」

Yang Jianguo received a notice from Chen Zhipeng, telling them to go decorate the booth at the exhibition hall.

So, Han Xiaorui and Yang Jianguo split up: Yang Jianguo went to decorate the booth, while Han Xiaorui stayed home to receive Uncle Xu.

Around 9:30 in the morning, Ye Feng arrived with Uncle Xu.

Uncle Xu had brought a camera and took many pictures.

”Xiao Rui, I never expected that the tropical ornamental fish you’re raising here would be of such high quality,” Uncle Xu praised repeatedly. There were so many species of ornamental fish here.

The collection included not only fish that Han Xiaorui had caught from the sea floor, but also ones purchased from the flower, bird, and fish market.

Among the saltwater fish, Uncle Xu’s favorite was the Blue Devil Fish.

Some of the Blue Devil Fish had yellow fins and tails, making them quite beautiful.

There were hundreds of species of saltwater ornamental fish alone, and when Uncle Xu saw the freshwater ones, he was even more astonished.

The sheer variety of freshwater fish was dazzling.

Among them were many types of small, luminous fish, collectively known as tetras.

They had interesting names based on their different shapes and colors.

There was the Penguin Tetra, the Black Phantom Tetra, the Emperor Tetra, and one called the Neon Tetra, which was as beautiful as a neon light.

They belonged to the Characidae family, also known as characins.

These were all small fish, about 2 to 5 centimeters long.

They were tiny, and from different angles, the light would reflect off them in different colors, which was exceptionally beautiful.

Then there were the guppies, with their slender bodies and large, long tails that fanned out like a peacock’s display when they swam.

There was also a species of cold-water fish that made Uncle Xu stop and admire it for a long time.

The various types of goldfish, each with its unique form, were dazzling.

This was especially true in Hong Kong, where people paid close attention to feng shui. Those who could afford it loved to have a fish tank in their homes.

Not only could it ward off evil spirits, but it could also change one’s fortune.

The Black Eye Bulge, in particular, was entirely jet-black with a graceful form and flowing fins and tail. It commanded a very high price in Hong Kong.

The Xu family’s mansion in Hong Kong had a fish tank, which contained quite a few Black Eye Bulge goldfish.

By the time they had toured the entire ornamental fish farm, it was already 12:30 PM.

Han Xiaorui invited Uncle Xu and Ye Feng to her home for lunch.

Uncle Xu smiled. ”Xiao Rui, this ornamental fish farm of yours is truly impressive! I’ll call my son as soon as I get back and tell him to come over!”

”I won’t get involved in the specific negotiations! You two can work out the prices and necessary procedures.”

Han Xiaorui nodded. ”I understand, Uncle Xu. I’ll be sure to offer Mr. Xu a satisfactory price.”

After lunch, Uncle Xu took his leave.

However, Ye Feng didn’t leave. He had the driver take Uncle Xu back first.

Han Xiaorui took out a pen and paper and began to calculate what would be a suitable selling price.

If she wanted people to import ornamental fish from the Mainland, she had to have a price advantage.

’But I have no idea what the wholesale cost of ornamental fish is abroad!’
