The Sea Queen of 1985

Chapter 191: Chapter 191: Out of Sight, Out of Mind

Yang Zhigang and Yang Jianguo carried in the cleaned Large Tridacna.

”Xiao Rui, this Large Tridacna is all cleaned up. Since you’re not selling it, we brought it inside for you!”

Han Xiaorui walked over to take a look. The quality was truly excellent. ”Uncle Yang, Brother Jianguo, could you please help me carry it into the room!”

Chen Yupeng came over to help as well.

Ye Feng started to come over and help, but Chen Yupeng stopped him.

’You’re not fully recovered yet. Don’t push yourself.’

Once inside the room, Yang Zhigang handed a cloth bag to Han Xiaorui. ”Keep this safe, and don’t tell anyone!”

Han Xiaorui took it and felt it with her hand. It seemed to be full of Tridacna Pearls.

”I understand, Uncle Yang! It’s all thanks to your and Brother Jianguo’s help.” Han Xiaorui took it upstairs to put it away safely. ’These will make some beautiful jewelry someday.’

Yang Zhigang smiled. ”Don’t mention it. This stuff isn’t as valuable as you might think. Just treat it as a toy for the kids. But be careful not to chip or break them.”

Han Xiaorui nodded. ”I will, Uncle Yang. Brother Jianguo, bring Minmin over later. There are lots of kids here, so it’ll be lively.”

Yang Jianguo smiled. ”She was just saying she wanted to come play. I bet she’ll be here in a little while!”

”You still have guests, so my Second Uncle and I will be going. If you need anything, just remember to give me a call.”

”Okay.” Han Xiaorui didn’t stand on ceremony. After all, they were like family.

Yang Zhigang and Yang Jianguo said goodbye to Ye Feng and Chen Yupeng, then left with a smile.

Once they were outside, the uncle and nephew walked in silence, their moods somber.

Finally, Yang Jianguo was the one to speak up. ”Second Uncle, Jianming called. You didn’t pick up, so he called me instead.”

Hearing this, Yang Zhigang snorted. ”That despicable, shameless bastard! Can’t wait to go to the United States and be a phony foreigner!”

Yang Jianguo didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. ”Sigh, he said he needs to handle the paperwork, and it requires your signature on a certificate. If you don’t sign it for him, he can’t get it done.”

”I know you don’t want to see Jianming leave, but it’s not a solution for him to keep calling me either!”

Yang Zhigang sighed. ”That scoundrel! The last time he came back, he stole the crew’s wages!”

”How can a menace like that be my, Yang Zhigang’s, son! How could I have fathered a son like that? What terrible thing did I do for Heaven to punish me like this!”

Yang Jianguo didn’t know how to console his Second Uncle. ”Jianming was a bit too eager for quick success before. He was influenced by Zhang Lili’s uncle, and things at work didn’t go smoothly.”

”Now he’s been detained because of the messy divorce with Zhang Lili, and the university has suspended him outright! He has no future prospects left in the country.”

”Jianming has been a good student since he was a child, and he’s especially smart. How could he possibly handle such a downfall? Going abroad means a fresh start for him. It might be for the best.”

In truth, these were all things Yang Jianming had said. Hearing his younger cousin crying and begging on the phone, Yang Jianguo could only bite the bullet and try to persuade his Second Uncle.

After a long moment, Yang Zhigang sighed. ”You call him. I’ll sign it! But I am adamant: I will not sign any document that creates a financial tie. Whether he becomes a billionaire overseas or not, I’d rather starve to death than ask him for a single cent.”

”If he doesn’t discipline himself out there and continues his reckless behavior, even if he ends up begging on the streets abroad, I won’t toss him a single coin!”

Yang Jianguo breathed a sigh of relief upon hearing this. At last, his Second Uncle had agreed.

After getting the call, Yang Jianming rushed over with the documents, unable to wait.

The documents didn’t involve any joint financial responsibility; they were just to verify Yang Jianming’s identity.

”Dad, when I get abroad and become a world-famous scientist, you’ll be proud of me!”

Hearing this, Yang Zhigang rolled his eyes. ”No matter how talented someone is, if they have no character, they’re nothing but trash in my eyes!”

”You’re getting your wish to go abroad now, so get lost! The farther, the better! The bond between us as father and son is over. Don’t contact me again!”

Yang Jianming liked to put on airs in public, but in front of his old father, he was completely shameless.

”Hehehe, Dad, even if you disown me, you’re still my dad! And Mom is still my mom. That’s something that will never change.”

”Once I’m settled abroad and making money, I’ll bring Mom over for treatment, and you can come see how developed other countries are too.”

”Get out, get out, get out!” Yang Zhigang grew even more annoyed and shoved Yang Jianming.

Yang Jianming dodged, which only made Yang Zhigang angrier.

He grabbed a stick from behind the door and swung it at him.

Seeing his old man was serious, Yang Jianming dodged and weaved, then jumped on his motorcycle and sped away.

He had actually dodged quite quickly, but his back still took two hits from the stick.

Yang Jianming winced in pain, his handsome face filled with displeasure.

’I’ll definitely make something of myself and make Dad regret hitting me today.’

Unable to catch him, an infuriated Yang Zhigang took off his shoe and threw it.

It hit Yang Jianming in the back again.

Seeing his Second Uncle red-faced with anger, Yang Jianguo quickly tried to soothe him. ”Second Uncle, calm down! Uncle Qi and the crew are here! I’ve ordered a banquet from the restaurant for lunch so we can all celebrate.”

Yang Zhigang took a few deep breaths, forcibly suppressing the rage inside him.

Then, Yang Zhigang found the situation laughable.

’That son of mine has always been like this. I’ve known it for a long time.’

’Getting angry enough to have a stroke or even die wouldn’t change a thing.’

’Don’t get angry, don’t get angry. If I ruin my health over this, there’s no one to take my place.’

’I still have three granddaughters!’

’I have to raise all three of them to be beautiful, healthy, and happy.’

’Pingping and An’an are with Han Xiaorui. With a strong, polite, and dedicated mother like her, they should grow up to be good kids.’

’Seeing how well Minmin has been raised, I can also rest easy entrusting Shunshun to my nephew and his wife.’

’All I need to do is work hard and earn money to prepare generous dowries for my three granddaughters.’

’No, it should be four granddaughters.’

’Minmin is such a good, well-behaved child. As her great-uncle, I have to prepare a dowry for her too.’

At this thought, the anger in Yang Zhigang’s heart vanished.

”Your Uncle Qi likes to drink Maotai, but it’s especially expensive, so he’d never buy it for himself. Go buy a few extra bottles. We’re going to treat everyone well today!”

On their last few trips out to sea, Qi Heng had been the one captaining the boat, going out alongside Han Xiaorui’s vessel.

Their haul was never less than 150,000 each time, and after selling all of yesterday’s seafood, it reached as high as 210,000.

This kind of income made Yang Zhigang very happy.

Although he was the boat owner, Yang Zhigang didn’t forget to pay his crew extra.

’You can’t expect the crew to be loyal to the owner just by making empty promises.’

’You have to give generous wages and commissions, and also show you care about their daily lives.’

’A stingy boat owner might make more money, but he won’t win anyone’s loyalty, and sooner or later, a disaster will happen.’

Han Xiaorui was very good about this, something Yang Zhigang had often advised her on.

’Spend a little money to achieve big things. Besides, when the crew and the owner are of one mind, the fishing boat will have better luck, and the work will be more harmonious.’
