The Sea Queen of 1985

Chapter 163: Chapter 163: Sincere Reminder and Suggestion

Wu Jiao put down her bowl and chopsticks. ”Xiao Rui, I’m going to see what happened!”

Han Xiaorui stopped her. ”The food is ready, so let’s eat first! Don’t worry. It’s not dark yet, so it’s probably not anything terrible. It’s most likely a family dispute.”

Wu Yao nodded. ”Exactly. It’s a family dispute, and outsiders shouldn’t get involved. If we rush over there, we might just get caught in the middle and make things worse.”

”Then I won’t go,” Wu Jiao said. Seeing that Han Xiaorui wasn’t worried, she sat back down, relieved. ”This seafood is best eaten hot.”

It was so delicious!

Back in their hometown, they barely ate meat more than a few times a year.

But here, they had meat or fish almost every day. Life was wonderful.

Han Xiaoqing took a few bites of the Coconut Snail meat. ”Sis, next time you see any Coconut Snails, grab a few more to bring back! We can keep them in a tank, and whenever we want some, we can just pull one out and stir-fry the meat.”

Seeing how much her sister enjoyed it, Han Xiaorui smiled. ”Of course. I’ll get you more whenever I see them! If I can’t find any, I’ll go to the wholesale seafood market and buy some for you!”

Han Xiaoqing quickly waved her hands at the suggestion. ”The ones we catch ourselves are free, but let’s not spend money on them! We already have more seafood than we can eat!”

Although her sister said that, Han Xiaorui made a mental note of it.

After dinner, Han Xiaorui had the younger girls stay home while she and Wu Jiao went next door.

By this time, it wasn’t just Han Xiaorui who had come over. Other villagers, having heard the crying and shouting, had also gathered around to ask what was happening.

People were murmuring among themselves, and Han Xiaorui listened closely.

”Fenfen tried to hang herself!”

Han Xiaorui was stunned. Her thoughts immediately flew to Xu Yingying and her husband, Wen Tao. ’Why would she try to hang herself?’

An older woman said, ”Who knows! Fenfen’s man is a bit older, but he’s handsome and rich. Zhao Xing’s family has been doing well lately, and it’s all thanks to her.”

”Was she taken to the hospital?” Han Xiaorui asked.

The woman replied, ”They got to her in time, she was still breathing. They called for the village doctor. There are too many people in the house, so we couldn’t squeeze inside.”

Since she couldn’t get inside, Han Xiaorui didn’t try to force her way in, choosing instead to listen to the women’s discussion.

’Zhao Fenfen’s suicide attempt must have something to do with Wen Tao.’

When it grew dark, the Zhao Family turned away all visitors and closed their door.

Han Xiaorui then returned home.

Worried about Xu Yingying, Han Xiaorui called her. ”Ye Feng, is Miss Xu home?”

Ye Feng sounded surprised. ”And here I thought you missed me. Turns out you’re looking for my aunt. Do you need to talk to her about something?”

Han Xiaorui was about to tell him, but she suddenly remembered that Xu Yingying had asked her not to. She quickly came up with an excuse. ”I was foraging on the beach yesterday and found four Coconut Snails. I opened them and found two Mei Le Pearls. They’re really beautiful.”

”Sister Cai said these kinds of pearls are an incredibly rare find and told me to keep them to have jewelry made. I’ve noticed Miss Xu always wears such beautiful pieces, so I wanted to ask her where I could get my two pearls made into jewelry.”

Ye Feng was taken aback for a moment, then slapped his forehead. ”We’ve been dating all this time, and it never even occurred to me to buy you jewelry.”

Han Xiaorui didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. ”Ye Feng, how long have we even been official? It hasn’t been that long. Besides, jewelry is expensive. You don’t have to buy me any.”

’This is the modern age. Who says dating always leads to marriage?’

’What if we aren’t happy together down the road? We’d just have to break up!’

Ye Feng understood Han Xiaorui’s character; she wasn’t looking for material wealth from him. ”My aunt just got back. I’ll get her for you.”

’After his injury, Han Xiaorui was the one who always came to visit and take care of him. When he gets back to his room, he’s going to pick out some jewelry that would suit her.’

’Someone as beautiful as Han Xiaorui deserves to wear the most beautiful jewelry.’

When Xu Yingying heard Han Xiaorui was on the phone for her, she was a little surprised. She took the phone. ”Xiao Rui, what can I do for you?”

Han Xiaorui answered, ”I found some Mei Le Pearls in a Coconut Snail. Two of them are quite pretty, and I’d like to have them made into jewelry. Could you recommend a craftsman?”

”Mei Le Pearls are lovely. I have a jewelry set made from them, and it’s very beautiful,” Xu Yingying said with a laugh. ”Alright, bring the pearls over when you have a chance, and I’ll take you. What are you up to at home when you’re not out on the water?”

”Thank you,” Han Xiaorui replied. ”When it’s not raining, I go foraging on the beach. Actually, our neighbor’s daughter—from the Zhao Family—tried to hang herself today. I wanted to help, but they turned me away.”

Xu Yingying froze. ’Wen Tao’s mistress?’

The color drained from Xu Yingying’s face. ”Is... is she okay?”

Han Xiaorui replied, ”They saved her. I was worried about you, which is why I’m telling you this. I really think you shouldn’t hide things like this from your family and try to handle it all on your own.”

”You might think you’re protecting them, but your family cares more about you. They won’t be happy or relieved to find out you were hiding something. It’s always best to sit down as a family and discuss things.”

Xu Yingying paused for a moment after hearing this, then nodded. ”Xiao Rui, you’re right. After investigating for a while, I already have the full picture. I confronted him.”

”He said he would break up with the other woman and be completely devoted to our life together. He even claimed that Zhao Fenfen had trapped him back then, that she threatened him into being with her.”

Han Xiaorui mulled it over. ”They have two kids, several years apart. Can you really believe what he’s saying?”

Xu Yingying gave a bitter smile. ”Getting trapped once? Maybe. But having two children with her? That’s not getting trapped. I choose not to believe him!”

Hearing this, Han Xiaorui breathed a sigh of relief. ”That’s good to hear. But you should still tell your family everything so they can be prepared.”

Xu Yingying nodded. ”Yes, I shouldn’t have hidden it from them.”

”Miss Xu, I wish you all the best,” Han Xiaorui said with a small laugh. ”Goodbye.”

Xu Yingying chuckled. ”Don’t call me Miss Xu anymore. From now on, just call me Auntie.”

”Okay, Auntie.” Han Xiaorui smiled. This meant Xu Yingying had truly accepted her as Ye Feng’s girlfriend.

After hanging up, Xu Yingying turned to see her nephew frowning at her. ”Don’t look at me like that. I was just about to say something.”

”What have you been hiding from us?” Ye Feng asked.

Xu Yingying took a deep breath to calm herself. ”It’s Wen Tao. During his first trip back to the country, he got involved with a young woman from Shencheng...”

Ye Feng’s eyes sharpened at her words. ”Something this huge happened, and you weren’t going to say anything unless Xiao Rui talked you into it?”

Under her nephew’s scrutinizing gaze, Xu Yingying shrank back, not daring to meet his eyes. ”I can handle it. And I was just about to tell you.”

Just then, Old Master Xu and Mrs. Xu came into the living room. When they learned about their youngest daughter’s situation, they became extremely agitated.

Ye Feng tried to calm them. ”Grandpa, Grandma, the most important thing is that Auntie is okay. Please don’t get worked up or angry. She needs you to be her rock right now.”

The two elders, who had been about to explode with rage, gradually calmed down under their grandson’s comforting words.

A man like Wen Tao was no longer a son-in-law of the Xu family.

Their daughter didn’t need to waste the rest of her life on a worthless man.

Mr. Xu acted swiftly and ruthlessly. After making a few phone calls, he had Wen Tao kicked out of the Xu Group.

Not only that, but he also hired a lawyer to file for divorce.

He would absolutely not let his daughter be wronged!

But they never imagined that some people would stop at nothing for money.
