How Could the Villainous Young Master Be a Saintess?

“Carillian Academy Chosen Leader Tournament??”

“I can’t believe it. That unique celestial phenomenon was actually observed during our year?! We’re about to witness history.”

“What does unique celestial phenomenon mean?”

Some students knew and had learned the details of the Carillian Academy Chosen Leader Tournament, while others knew nothing at all, or only had a half-understanding after merely hearing of it.

“You don’t know? The most special celestial phenomenon on Tyrelis Continent—the double-moon phenomenon. Astrologers can observe certain omens ahead of time. Afterward, in the night sky, two moons will appear at the same time. That is why it’s called the double-moon phenomenon.”

“Double moons?? Heavens, can two moons really appear in the sky at once? I’ve never seen that once since I was born.”

“Of course you haven’t. According to records, the last double-moon phenomenon appeared more than ten years ago—hm, close to twenty years ago. Back then, we were probably only just born.”

“Heavens, it was that long ago? Then the last Carillian Chosen Leader Tournament was more than ten years ago too??”

“What else did you think? Why would the teacher emphasize it so much if it weren’t important?? The Carillian Chosen Leader Tournament hasn’t been held in nearly twenty years. During that time, who knows how many talented upperclassmen waited for this chance to distinguish themselves, only to endure all the way until graduation without ever waiting for the double-moon phenomenon to descend.”

“So that’s how it is?? Wait, this tournament doesn’t seem to be limited to us second-years, right? Didn’t the teacher just say something like ‘we just happen to have reached the entry threshold’??”

“That’s right. What else? This tournament is limited to second-, third-, and fourth-years in the Academy. In other words, except for the new students, under normal circumstances, any current student of Carillian Academy can participate.”

The student who had clearly looked into the Chosen Leader Tournament explained it to the students beside him who knew nothing, or had only heard a little.

And Vinny, sitting at the desk behind them, listened silently too.

“Then isn’t there no chance at all? You want us second-years to fight third- and fourth-year seniors? You can’t be joking, right? Who could beat them? Wouldn’t we just go up there and get spun around like tops??”

“What can we do about that? Be content. At least we have the chance to be runners-along. If the seniors from the previous year knew that right after they graduated and walked out of the school gates, the double-moon phenomenon descended, they’d probably be so angry they’d cough up several liters of blood.”

Although that student said this, there was clearly still a sour note in his tone.

“Ah, ah, the third- and fourth-years this year—especially the fourth-years—really are lucky. They drew the timing most favorable to them. The ones among them with excellent grades, or even prior preparation, are probably grinning so hard their mouths are crooked.”

That was true. Everyone felt somewhat unwilling about this, after all. Anyone who could enter Carillian Academy, aside from those slackers who barely scraped past the line, was an arrogant genius, wasn’t he?

Here, even geniuses only had the share of being stepping stones. Only prodigies among geniuses, with sufficient luck and preparation, could seize first place.

Take this time, for example. Hadn’t the fourth-years, who had trained in the Academy for three years and would graduate in another year, reached the peak of their own luck?

In terms of seniority, who could compare to them after they had stayed in the Academy for three years? The students from the other years were not even standing on the same starting line as them.

Of course, luck was also an important part of fate. If one’s luck was bad, there truly was nothing to be done. As second-years, they had no qualification to complain that their starting line was too far behind.

If they complained, then the first-years and those seniors who had just graduated would have something to say too. They had not failed to wait for the double-moon phenomenon; they had brushed past it. They had missed it by that crucial single year!

“All right. No whispering. You can discuss it after I finish explaining.”

The combat teacher opened the package she had brought with her.

“These are the detailed explanations regarding the ‘Carillian Academy Chosen Leader Tournament’ issued by the Teaching Department to every student. They include all the important points and details you need to pay attention to, and they make everything clear.”

“Student Aesphyra, Student Isatia, please come up and help me hand these documents to every student. Make sure every student receives one.”

After Aesphyra and Isatia were called, each rose and walked forward, took the documents, and distributed them to every student in the class.

Carillian Academy used small-class teaching, so there were not many people in one class. Even so, the documents they received were quite thick. When placed on each student’s desk, each copy was like a small booklet.

“Besides the origin of this tournament, the specific rules are also explained inside. I know this is rather a lot, but everyone, I hope you understand the effect this tournament may have on you. Of course, you may choose not to participate. The choice is yours. You can sit safely and steadily in the audience seats as a spectator, watching your other classmates choose to fight with everything they have for themselves, while you sit back without a care.”

No one spoke after hearing this, but everyone’s intentions were already very clear.

If they truly wanted to lie flat, they would never have entered Carillian Academy. Among those who could enter, who did not have at least some ambition and ideals??

With that provocation, the whole class would probably enter. But even without the provocation, Vinny estimated that the entire class would still participate.

Vinny looked at the classmates in front of and behind him, and found that they were all silent. Their expressions differed, but the same blazing heat burst from their eyes.

Clearly, they all intended to participate. Even if their opponents were upperclassmen, they absolutely would not simply sit in the audience seats and watch.

Anyone capable of watching such a once-in-a-thousand-years opportunity slip past was not a student of Carillian Academy.

Just as Vinny was looking around, Isatia walked up to him and placed the documents in front of him.

“Thanks.”

Vinny said it unconsciously, picked up the stack of documents, and began flipping through them.

The origin and history alone filled several pages.

“Student Vinny, I always feel like the atmosphere in class is a little strange.”

Shicodale shrank slightly in Vinny’s direction.

“Is Student Vinny going to participate?”

“Mm.”

Vinny gave a calm yet firm reply.

Of course he was going to participate.

Rather, this was the key turning point for him.

No matter who his opponents were, he absolutely had to seize first place, win the championship, and obtain the title of “Carillian’s Chosen One Granted by God.”

“Student Dale, what about you?”

Vinny looked toward Shicodale.

“Are you going to participate?”

“...I want to try too!”

Shicodale fell silent for a moment, then spoke firmly.

“Good.”

Seeing Shicodale’s reaction, Vinny’s lips curved slightly, and his eyes were full of gratification.

If it had been the old Shicodale, the one who sought no conflict with the world, she definitely would not have made this decision.

Vinny felt that she must have learned something very important this year: what she wanted, she had to bravely fight for. She could not retreat every time things became difficult.

“If I participate, will Student Vinny be unhappy?”

After saying that, Shicodale looked toward Vinny somewhat nervously.

“If you participate, why would this young master be angry??”

Vinny was amused by Shicodale’s question.

“Student Dale, this is exactly right. Looks like this young master didn’t teach you for nothing this year. You learned some manly spirit too!”

Vinny praised her. His tone carried the full gratification of witnessing Shicodale’s growth, like an old father seeing that his daughter had finally become sensible and grown a little.

“Not bad, not bad. This young master’s body full of manly spirit has infected you too.”

“Do you know, Student Dale? This young master is very happy to see you like this. Brave enough to compete for what belongs to you, brave enough to fight for yourself.”

Vinny nodded.

Here, Vinny was indirectly referring to Shicodale’s origins and mission. She was the Moon Elves’ only surviving royal, and she bore the great mission of leading her people to regain freedom.

The Moon Elves needed her as their leader. If even she could not become brave, who could help the Moon Elves currently enslaved??

“Really?”

Shicodale gazed at Vinny, her beautiful eyes widening slightly, light flowing through them.

It was just like how there were a thousand Hamlets in a thousand people’s eyes. Different people also had different understandings of the same words. For example, in Shicodale’s understanding, Vinny’s words carried another layer of meaning.

“Of course it’s true. Student Dale, if you’re a man, then stand up and bravely fight for what belongs to you.”

Vinny encouraged her.

“Aside from you yourself, no one can help you with these things. You have to stand up on your own. You have to save yourself. Muster your courage and fight for yourself!”

“Don’t keep thinking about whether you’ll fail or anything like that. If you start thinking you’ll fail before you’ve even begun, then you won’t accomplish anything.”

“Everything is like that. So go, Student Dale. I believe in you.”

Vinny smiled at Shicodale.

“However, there is one thing this young master has to make clear. If I run into you on the field, this young master will not hold back, all right? After all, this young master also has his own reason to fight.”

“On the contrary, Student Dale, you absolutely must not hold back either. If this young master finds out that you deliberately went easy on me during the match, then this young master will never pay attention to you again. Understand??”

Vinny’s tone instantly turned solemn.

“Eh, eh??”

“What are you ‘eh’-ing for? I’m asking if you understand??”

Vinny continued solemnly.

“I-I understand!”

Shicodale’s gaze became firm.

“Good. That’s the spirit.”

Vinny smiled again.

“Let’s each work hard toward our own goals!”

This did not apply only to Shicodale. If necessary, Vinny would say these words once to everyone he was close to.

Mirexia, Aesphyra, Isatia, Fennia, Amisha, Luna.

If necessary, he would say this to all of them.

Who was he, the Camella Royal Capital’s notorious young master??

He did not need his friends to go easy on him in a tournament like this because of personal affection or sympathy for him. If they did that, he would be very angry.

And this time—

His opponents were not only the third- and fourth-year seniors.

They also included the fate heroines.

If this had been a year ago, back when he had just enrolled, this was something he would not even have dared imagine.

He had changed far too much over this year. A year ago, he had to avoid the fate heroines, let alone fight them.

As this thought came to him, Vinny looked toward Aesphyra behind him, who was still handing documents to the other students.

Vinny recalled the words the two of them had exchanged earlier in the corridor.

So she felt the same way about him too.

That really was unexpected.

Even now, Vinny still felt as though he were dreaming, with a sensation that the dream had yet to end.

But then again, how was this life of his not also a dream??

Who could tell whether he was that person from Blue Star in his previous life, or Vinny who had lived a new life on Blue Star??

Vinny withdrew his gaze and placed his attention on the documents in his hands.

He was not very interested in these lengthy allusions and origins, but he still casually glanced through them.

Mm. It seemed this double-moon celestial phenomenon was rather special. It was not as simple as merely an abnormal celestial image appearing. This celestial image was suspected of having other functions as well.

As for why this wondrous celestial image appeared, that remained an unsolved mystery. After all, this was a world where magic existed.

However, many scholars had conjectures about it.

Some scholars believed the strange double-moon phenomenon was an ominous sign, foretelling that disaster was about to arrive. But this sort of thing was like the many schools of thought. Different theories had completely opposite claims. There were also scholars who said the double-moon phenomenon was an auspicious omen. In the end, for something whose principles could not be investigated clearly, it was very difficult to distinguish whether it was ominous or auspicious. Perhaps it had nothing to do with either.

Vinny turned a page and found other explanations regarding the double-moon celestial image.

He skimmed through them roughly. Most were lengthy arguments, but the content of those arguments seemed far too mystical.

For example, one said this was a sign that the Moon God was in a good mood. Another said that the other moon was not actually a moon at all, but a “passage” from another world to Tyrelis Continent that had been opened, proving that outer gods from another world had invaded Tyrelis Continent.

Then why, after so many double-moon celestial images had appeared and outer gods supposedly invaded, had Tyrelis Continent still not fallen? Wasn’t this just the left and right halves of the brain fighting each other??

The scholars then explained that this was because the Moon God was blocking the outer gods’ invasions for Tyrelis Continent. There were also scholars in the Church of the Dawn who stated that it was due to the Dawn Goddess protecting Tyrelis Continent, causing the outer gods’ repeated attacks to fail.

Wasn’t this similar to the scripts about aliens invading Blue Star that many people had spread in his previous life??

In short, opinions differed wildly.

Besides this, Vinny also glimpsed another claim: that the birth of the double-moon phenomenon had some kind of connection to creation, and that it was something like the incarnation of a major creation god.

However, these claims were also absurd and could not be proven.

At the current magical level of Tyrelis Continent, it would probably be impossible to figure out what was really going on with the double-moon celestial phenomenon within the next several hundred years.
