Chapter 622: The Sword That Refused to Move

The Sword That Refused to Move

The moment just seemed to go on. It felt really heavy like the walls were waiting to see what would happen next. The walls themselves seemed to be holding their breath like the people in the room. The air was thick, with tension. You could feel the moment hanging there waiting for something to happen.

The air was full of dust that looked like stars that were not moving. It was very quiet so quiet that Leon could feel the silence pushing against his ears. Even the sound of his heart beating was too loud. It was like a drum beating in a room where everyone was being very quiet and listening to the dust and the heartbeat and the silence. The room seemed to be waiting for something to happen. The dust hung in the air and Leons heartbeat kept going one beat at a time, in the quiet room.

The sword did not move.

The person did not twitch.

The light did not glow.

The stillness was not empty. It was full of something, like a bow that is pulled back and ready to go. The treasury could feel it this change that was hard to see but very real. This was not some king trying out an old thing. The treasury was waiting for the one person who was meant to be and that person was standing right where they were supposed to be. The treasury was waiting for this person the treasury was waiting for the one who was standing in that spot the treasury was waiting for that one person.

Leon took another step being careful almost like he was, in a place. The stone floor made a sound under his boots. When he reached out again his fingers touched the hilt of the sword gently which even surprised Leon himself. It was not like he was grabbing it. It was more like he was saying hello to the sword.

A quiet vibration slipped through his skin. This was not mana. It was not warmth either. The vibration was deeper than both of these things. It was a presence that was very patient. This presence was like a mind that had been awake for a long time. For centuries.. Now it had finally opened one eye. His breath caught in his throat. Then his shoulders eased it was as if the vibration and he had just shared an understanding without saying a word. The vibration was still there it was still a patient presence, like a mind that had been awake, for centuries.

He leaned in a bit like he was scared of ruining the moment if he talked too loud.. He whispered to himself almost feeling weird, about how soft his voice sounded

”Soon... we will.”

His words just faded away into the air that felt really stale.

He stood there for a moment close to the stone and he could feel the cold coming from it. The stone was so cold that it felt like the knife was paying attention to him. Then he stood up straight. Rolled his shoulders like he was trying to get rid of the weird feeling that was going up his back. This feeling was making him very aware of his breathing and that was pretty strange. He was feeling this tension. The blade was making him feel it like it was right there, with him, the blade.

”Alright buddy ” he said, rubbing his face with his hand sounding really tired. ”I have a lot of problems to take care of outside. So let us get you out of this place and go. I have a mountain of things to deal with outside so let us get you out of this rock and go.”

He breathed out hard and the sound was loud, in the quiet room.

”By force, then.”

The green light around his hand was really bright. It made an shiny aura that moved out in gentle waves. These waves were soft so they did not break any of the fragile things around him.. They were also strong enough to make everything near the blade move. The coins made a sound as they slid back like they were soldiers following a quiet command. The small things that were lying around started to float across the stone floor. Even a banner that had fallen down lifted up. Moved to the side like it was making room for something very special. The green light and the aura were still moving, making everything, around the blade get out of the way.

The space around the sword was empty in a few moments. The area, around the sword was totally bare.

Leon gave a nod, mostly to himself. He said ”Good. Now you can breathe a little.” Leon was trying to calm the situation down. The words ”you can breathe a little” were meant to be reassuring so Leon said them.

He stood with his feet apart feeling the ground beneath him. He took a breath and pulled the mana into his body letting it flow through him like a river. The mana moved through his body filling him up. He felt the mana of the earth. It made him strong. The mana was, like a living thing it. Flowed through his body making him feel alive. He felt the power of the mana. It made him feel grounded like he was a part of the earth. He was filled with the mana. It was a good feeling.

Spell: Earth Titan Physique Enhancement.

A strong power filled him up. His muscles got tight and big his bones got stronger and the strings that hold his muscles together got ready. It was like they were made of stone. For a moment his skin looked a little like rock, which showed how strong he was now. The power was all through him, in every part of his body.

Leon put one of his feet against the rock that was holding the sword in place. The rock was really big. The sword was stuck to it. Leon was standing there with his foot, against the boulder and the sword. The sword was still stuck. Leon had his foot on the boulder.

The mans fingers closed around the hilt of the sword. His fingers were wrapped tightly around the hilt. The hilt was the part of the sword that he held onto. The mans fingers were closed around the hilt.

The man pulled.

Everything was completely still. There was not a little shake. The things, around me did not move all not even a tiny bit.

Leons jaw got tight. For a moment he looked really annoyed. ”Oh come on Leon does not want you to start acting like you’re too good, for him ” Leon said, his voice a little frustrated. Leon just wanted things to be normal. Now Leon was getting upset.

He showed his teeth. Pulled really hard putting all his energy into the spell of the stone. His whole body was straining a lot. His shoulders were shaking his arms were. The veins were sticking out on his skin. The power of the spell of the stone was fighting against the stone that would not budge. The spell of the stone was very strong. The stone was not giving in.

Then a loud noise came out of nowhere. It was a sound that was kind of metallic. This noise cut through the silence.

Clink.

The sound was really quiet it was almost like it was scared to come out. It filled the whole room like someone was holding their breath and then finally let it out. The sword moved a bit. It was a small movement, just a tiny bit but it was still moving.

Leon just stood there looking at it like he had seen something. Then a funny smile started to spread across his face. He said ”Hah... And he really meant it. Leon was clearly very happy about what he was seeing so he just said it again ”finally” like the wait was over, for Leon.

He tightened his grip on the thing. He pulled it again. His boots scraped against the stone floor as he put all his weight into pulling the blade. This time the blade moved up a bit just a few centimeters, which was enough to make his heart jump up before the blade stopped moving again. He was trying to get the blade to come out all the way.

THUD.

The sword slammed back, into the boulder like an anchor dropped into an endless sea. This impact was really bad. It sent a bad jolt up Leons arms. The weight of the sword was so great that it nearly pulled the hilt out of Leons hands. Leon staggered backward. He caught himself. Took a sharp breath. The sword was very heavy. Leon was struggling to hold on to it. Leon was still trying to catch his breath after the sword slammed into the boulder.

”Fuck—how heavy are you?”

Sweat was running down his face. It was collecting at the bottom of his jaw. Then it would drip down onto the floor. His hair was black. It was stuck to his forehead because it was wet. He was breathing fast taking short breaths. His chest was moving up and, down a lot like he had just been running fast.

The man gave the sword a look he was really mad and also kind of amazed. ”You are making fun of me are you not? Do not do that. I will break the sword.”

The man was certain that he would not do it. He just knew that he would not.

But saying it out loud took the edge off the frustration gnawing at him.

He let out a growl and wiped his face. Then he stood up straight. Rolled his shoulders. It was like he was getting ready to fight someone he had been fighting with for a time. ”You hear me buddy?” he said. ”I am not going to walk out of here without you. I mean it. I am not going to leave you behind tomorrow or next month. I am going to make sure you come with me today. I do not care if I get really hurt and have a hernia because of it. I am staying here with you until we leave together. The thing that is important, to me is that we leave together and that is what I am going to do buddy I am going to stay with you and make sure that happens and I am not going to change my mind about the fact that I am not walking out without you.

He put his foot against the stone again his fingers closed around the hilt. Then he pulled on it. The stone was hard to move so he had to pull hard. He planted his foot against the stone. Pulled the hilt again.

The sword rose it went up a little more a few centimetres. It was still being really stubborn.

and then crashed back down like a collapsing mountain.

The impact hit Leons arms hard. It hurt much that it went from his palms up into his wrists. The pain was so bad that it took his breath away. Leon stumbled around letting out a laugh as he tried to catch his breath. The pain, in Leons arms was still really bad.

”Fuck you,” he gasped, chest heaving, half in fury, half in something dangerously close to admiration. ”I want you. Not the other way. Don’t be stubborn.”
