Chapter 620: Call of Blade

Call of Blade

In the corner something was waiting. It was hidden behind a lot of stuff, like banners, scrolls that were sealed up and old racks that used to hold weapons. The presence was waiting there behind all those things.

A blade.

The black sword was really big and really heavy. It was also very silent. The surface of the sword did not shine at all it did not make any noise it did not glimmer in the light from the torches. Or the sunlight that was fading and coming through the cracks, in the walls of the treasury.. The black sword still called to him.

The moment Leons golden eyes saw that thing something hit him hard in the chest. Leons golden eyes were fixed on it. He felt a big jolt. It was, like something was pushing against Leons chest and Leons golden eyes were still looking at it.

A pull.

Sharp. Deep. Primal.

He took a breath. It was like the air got really thick all of a sudden. He could not breathe properly. The breath he took was not an one it was, like a big gasp that he could not control. The air felt heavy. It was hard for him to swallow.

”What the heck ” he said to himself. His voice was really quiet and you could hardly hear it.

The sword did not glow. The sword did not react to the mana. No magic came from the sword.. Yet the sword reached for him. The sword did not reach for him with light or sound. The sword reached for him with something older. This was a pressure that the sword put beneath his skin. The sword whispered in his blood. It was as if the sword had been waiting for him. The sword had recognized the man. The sword and the man had some kind of contract that was not spoken. This contract was made a time ago before he even came into this room. The sword and the man had a connection that was made before he stepped foot into this room.

Leon swallowed. His fingers were moving a little at his side because he was very nervous. He felt like something was happening to his skin like tiny sparks were jumping on his arms. Leon wanted to look to not look at the other person and act like nothing was going on with him like he did not feel anything at all with Leon.

There is another part of this thing that’s darker and deeper. This part leaned forward.

Leon took a step forward. He was not really sure about it. Then he took another step forward. Leon was still moving forward one step, at a time. Now he had taken another step.

Thump... thump... thump.

His heart beat fast against his ribs. It was going crazy. Would not slow down. His heart was beating wildly. It just would not stop. The heart was pounding against the ribs in a strong way.

He was not really paying attention to the fact that he was walking. He took one breath. Then another. His boots made a sound on the stone floor as his body kept moving forward. It was like his body was moving on its own. Something was pulling him. He did not know what it was. He did not feel like he was making a choice. It felt more like he was giving in. The distance, between him and the weapon was getting smaller and smaller.

The sword was not sitting on a pedestal like the swords. It was lying on a rock with sharp edges. This rock looked like it had been pushed down by something heavy. The rock under the sword was. Had a lot of old cracks. These cracks looked like lines spreading out from the sword, like the rock itself was having a time holding up the sword.

The swords and the spears and the bows were all standing around it in a line. Each one of the swords and the spears and the bows had a tablet that told you about its history and the person who used it and what it did. These were swords and spears and bows. They were used by heroes. They did great things. The swords and the spears and the bows had been, in battles and they had hurt a lot of people.. Now the swords and the spears and the bows were quiet. The swords and the spears and the bows were not being used anymore. Their stories were over.

This one wasn’t.

Leon slowed down his breathing was really shallow now. His skin got all prickly he felt this pressure in the back of his eyes and at the bottom of his spine. This was not fear or, at least it did not feel like fear. It was more like he knew something was off it was recognition. He had this really scary feeling that he was standing in front of something that already knew Leon.

Leons hand was shaking when he went to grab the hilt. It was not because he was unsure. Because he was trying really hard not to pull his hand back. The metal felt cold when his fingers touched it. It was colder than any sword he had ever held. This coldness went into his skin and made his bones feel chilly.. Under this cold feeling the metal seemed to be beating slowly and steadily. It was, like a heart that was beating away and it was matching the fast beating of Leons own heart.

He said this quietly like he was not sure if he was talking to the sword or, to himself. You feel it too do you not?

This sword is like an ocean that is waiting for one little thing to make some waves on its surface he thought to himself as he looked at the black blade. The sword is very quiet. It does not seem to be moving at all. It is really big and strong. The sword does not have any designs or lights on it but it still looks very powerful. The sword is so deep and strong that it makes everything, around it look tiny. This sword is infinite. It feels like nothing can move it.

For a moment he thought about what it would be, like to draw the picture. He wanted to break the stillness of the picture. The idea of drawing the picture made his throat feel tight. He thought about the picture. How it would look if he drew it.

His eyes landed on the tablet that was sitting next to something. The skin on his forehead got all scrunched up as he was reading the writing, on the tablet. The words were written in the language that the first kings of Vellore used to speak.

The stone was cold when he touched it. He leaned in closer. Looked at the old writing on it. The lines were carved in carefully like they meant something. It felt like the stone had been around for a long time and it was watching him as he read the writing, on it. The stone seemed to be thinking that he should not be reading it like it was a secret that only some people were supposed to know. He kept looking at the stone at the script and he could feel the weight of all the years that it had been there.

This sword was used two times by the person who started Vellore. It was found in the Forbidden Forest. Nobody can lift it than one time because it is really heavy. The sword weighs five hundred kilograms. The metal it is made of is not known to any blacksmith. The king who used it only used it two times. Then he never used it again after his second fight. If someone goes into the Forbidden Forest to get the sword they might get very sick. They might die. The sword is very special. People are afraid of it. The Forbidden Forest is a place and the sword is, inside it.

Leon blinked. That is a lot of weight five hundred kilograms is really heavy.

What the hell...

A laugh that was not really a laugh tried to come out of him. It stopped in his throat. His eyes went back to the sword. It did not look like an old thing to him anymore. It looked like something that was just sitting there. The sword weighed five hundred kilograms and that was not just heavy it was really silly. It was not possible for something to be that heavy. It was like something from a joke that people who thought they were tough would try to lift. The sword was a monster resting in plain sight just waiting to be picked up by someone who thought they could handle it like the five hundred kilograms was a challenge from history, to people who were too full of themselves.

His thoughts started to fall into place one after the other like pieces of a broken mirror. The Forbidden Forest of Galvia is a scary place. There are four forests that the Grand Empire controls. The Forbidden Forest of Galvia stands by itself on the edge of five small kingdoms. Even tough guys who fight for money talk, about the Forbidden Forest of Galvia in voices. People say that if you go one kilometer into the Forbidden Forest of Galvia you will never really come back. And if you do come back you will be different. Your eyes will look empty. Your smile will be slow. Your mind will be broken in ways that no doctor can fix. The Forbidden Forest of Galvia is a place that can hurt you in a bad way.

Mad, broken, haunted.

This sword had actually come from that place. The sword had really come from there.

This thing did not just survive. It was actually carried around used for something and then put away here. It has been waiting for a time. It is very patient. Time has not changed it all. The thing is still here untouched by time.

A chill crept up Leons spine. He rolled his shoulders once like a man trying to shake off a shadow he could not quite see. Leons imagination was already running wild thinking about the forest, the founder and the battles that had demanded such a thing to be drawn once. He thought about adventure and conquest. The hunger of power that pulled men into darkness was something Leon did not like to think about. He could not help it. The forest and the founder and the battles all kept coming to Leons mind and he thought about the adventure and the conquest that had led to all this.

The man stopped himself.

Not now.

He shook his head, clearing the noise. Adventure, the Forest, conquest — all of that could wait. This wasn’t a story. This was a moment. One that would either bend to him... or crush him.

First, the sword.

Focus, Leon. Focus. You’re here now. No one else can call this sword. Not yet.

His heart was still pounding, a dull, relentless drum in his ears as he stepped closer. The air around the weapon felt different — heavier, thicker, like standing too close to a storm that hadn’t decided to break yet. He extended his hand, slow and careful, half-expecting the blade to react.

The hilt looked simply. Almost humble. And yet something about it tugged at him, a strange, wordless pull that made his skin prickle.

When his fingers closed around it, the weight hit him — not in his muscles, but in his bones. It felt like grabbing hold of something that didn’t belong to the world anymore. He braced himself, expecting his arm to be yanked downward, expecting pain, strain, anything.

Nothing.

The sword didn’t move.

It didn’t even pretend to.

It sat there, immovable, as if the stone beneath it were part of its body.

Leon sucked in a breath through his teeth, frustration flaring in his chest. His grip tightened, knuckles whitening as he gave a careful pull, then a harder one. The hilt was cold and unyielding, almost mocking in its stillness.

”Come on... come on,” he muttered, the words slipping out like a plea he didn’t want to admit.

He adjusted his stance, boots scraping softly against the stone floor as he set his feet. His shoulders squared. His back straightened. Muscles coiled, taut as drawn wire. Mana stirred beneath his skin, a subtle current flowing outward in a controlled pulse—but even that faint surge of power vanished against the blade like a drop of rain against a cliff.

Nothing.

Not even a tremor.

What is this...?
