Chapter 621: A Will Within the Blade

A Will Within the Blade

Not even a tremor.

What is this...?

Leon bent down and got really low so he was at the level as the sword. The sword was made of steel and it seemed to suck up all the light around it. It even swallowed the light from the torch so it did not look like metal anymore. It looked like a cut in the world. The edges of the sword sparkled a bit like embers.. It was not really hot and it was not really glowing. It was, like something was alive and watching. The sword did not feel like it was not alive. The sword felt like it was waiting for something. Leon could feel that the sword was waiting.

Not for force.

For something else.

Recognition.

The man looked back at the stone tablet that was, behind him. The words that were carved into it kept coming into his mind. He could not stop thinking about them no matter how hard he tried to forget them. The words said this: the king who used this sword never used it than one time. The king who wielded this sword never used it twice.

The air, in the treasury felt really heavy.

The first ruler of Vellore was a man that people talked about they were scared of him. They also looked up to him. He had held this blade in his hand one time. I wonder what the blade wanted from him. Did it want his blood? Did it want him to live a life? Did it want his soul? Leons jaw got tight. If the ruler had to give up something big something that people still remember then what would the blade want from Leon? The blade would probably want something from Leon too because he is not, like the first ruler of Vellore.

If the sword could really withstand centuries of dust and stone and time itself that is really something. The sword has been around for a long time and it has seen a lot of things like dust and stone and time passing by. What if the sword is still in shape even, after all those years that would be amazing the sword would be very special the sword would be able to resist all that dust and stone and time.

What would happen to Leon if he made the thing free? What would it do to Leon if he actually forced the thing free? It is a big question what would it do to Leon.

His heart started beating fast it was pounding in his ears. He felt excited and scared, at the time these feelings were all mixed up in his chest he could not tell them apart.

No. This is the moment. Not later. Not tomorrow. Here. Now.

Leon planted his feet again this time he went deeper. His shoulders went back. His fingers wrapped tightly around the hilt of the thing he was holding. The hilt was what his fingers were locked around until his grip started to hurt. Leon bared his teeth. He pulled on the thing with all his might.

The hilt just stayed in one place. Did not move at all.

Okay I need to think. Think, Leon. I have to figure this out. Think, Leon what am I going to do?

He let go of the blade. Took a step back. He breathed slowly. The cool air of the treasury filled his lungs. It was stale. The silence was around him. It was broken by the sound of the torches cracking. His thoughts started to calm down. The treasury was quiet again. He stood there. The silence of the treasury surrounded him. The torches kept cracking. His thoughts, about the treasury and the blade began to settle.

He could still feel it. The sword had this weight that was stuck to it. It was not just that the sword was powerful. It was like the sword had a purpose. The sword had something, behind it like someone was standing there looking at him checking him out to see what he was made of. The sword was of sizing him up.

It was not rejecting him.

The thing was judging him. It seemed like the thing was watching him. It was judging him. The thing just kept on judging him.

It is not about his strength, but also about the fact that he can control himself. The thing that really matters is that he is aware of what he’s doing. The big question is whether he is ready to deal with what happens with the things that come after the fact with the consequences of his actions with what he will have to face after this moment with the challenges that the future holds for him, with the problems that he will have to solve and that is what will really test his strength, his awareness and his restraint.

Leon let out a breath and he gave the sword a little smile that was not quite straight.

Not now buddy. Not now. We will have our adventure enough. First we need to get to know the adventure and what the adventure’s all about. First just get to know each other and learn more, about the adventure we will have.

He bent down again getting really close to the blade. The blade was so close that he could see the glow that looked like embers. It was shaking a little along the edges of the handle. The glow was pulsing slowly like something that was breathing very slowly. The metal of the blade did not feel cold, to him. The metal of the blade felt like it was watching him.

Every instinct in his body told him the thing: this was not something you should pick up. The thing needed to be figured out it really did. His body was warning him that this thing, the weapon was not, like things. You had to understand the weapon before you could even think about touching it.

Okay... respect. Got it.

Leon changed the way he was holding things he did not squeeze tighter he just made it fit better. His wrists moved a bit they lined up in a way that Leon did not really think about. The way he was standing also changed his weight went down into the stone floor beneath his boots. The world, around Leon seemed to stop and wait.

A tremor ran through the blade. It was so slight that he almost missed it. The tremor, in the blade was really small.

I am looking at this place. I think something is moving. Something moved there.

His pulse spiked. He gave it another try this time he meant it more. He did not use as much force. He let his strength flow into the sword of just hitting it hard. The sword started to quiver a little it was, like a heartbeat that was not very strong.

Yes I think we are getting now. We are really making progress. The conversation is going well. Yes things are working out.

He stopped. He did not rush it. He let the moment breathe.

His hand stayed on the hilt of the sword really steady. He was breathing slowly now his breaths were deep and even, like the quiet sound of the metal was helping him calm down. His eyes were fixed on the dark steel he was looking at it with focus not blinking at all waiting for the sword to understand him the way he was trying to understand the sword.

To accept him.

He said to himself come on a little bit more just a little bit more he whispered really quietly.

The pull in his chest got stronger it was sharper this time. It was not pain. It was not anger. It was like he knew something. He felt okay with it. Something old woke up inside him. It felt real. He could not ignore it. His heart started beating hard against his ribs. A small shake went from his fingers up his arms. Stopped at the back of his neck. It felt like he was holding his breath. The pull, in his chest was still there. It was like his body was telling him something. The recognition he felt was strong. His heartbeat was still going fast. The approval he felt was real.

This is it...

Leons hand tightened around the hilt of the sword. The sword had weight now. It was not the weight that you can feel in your muscles and bones. It was something. The sword had a presence. It felt like a big ocean was trapped inside the sword. This ocean was waiting to come out. It was waiting for Leon to make a move. In that moment Leon understood something clearly. It was a thought. The sword felt alive. Leon could feel the power of the sword. It was like the sword was waiting for him to do something. The sword had a lot of power inside it. This power was waiting to come out.

The blade will never be taken away from the person who owns the blade. The blade is something that the person who owns the blade will always keep with them and the blade will always be safe. The blade is an important thing, to the person who owns the blade.

This thing is just too hard to learn. The skill will never be mastered. People will always struggle with it. The skill will never be mastered.

The computer will make a decision. The computer will pick something. The choice is made by the computer.

It seems that something was choosing him. The decision was being. It was choosing him.

He said ”Holy fuck” quietly. Then he started laughing in an quiet way. He was so surprised that he could not help it. The laugh just came out before he could stop himself from laughing.

His mind started to wander to the stories that people would whisper about the Forbidden Forest. People said the first king only used this sword two times and that was it. He only used it twice in his life.. When he did use it he treated it like it was something really special not just something you use. If that is really what happened then what would happen if Leon were to take the sword outside these walls? There are five kingdoms that’re like guards, at the borders of Galvia and it feels like something crazy is hiding behind every tree with shadows talking about names that nobody remembers. The Forbidden Forest is a scary place and the sword is a big part of those old stories.

Leon closed his eyes tight. Shook his head back and forth. He did this a times. Leon was trying to clear his mind. Leon just wanted to forget what he saw. Leon squeezed his eyes shut again.

Not now. Not now.

The world beyond could wait. The danger could wait. The legends could wait. Even the future itself could wait. Now there was only this moment. The cold stone was beneath his boots. He felt the sword against his palm. There was an steady thrum that passed between the sword and him like a shared heartbeat. The. He were connected in this moment. The world beyond and the danger and the legends and the future were all waiting.. He was focused on the sword and the moment and the cold stone, beneath his boots.

Leon took a breath in trying to calm his nerves down. Alright buddy, let us start with the lesson. You and Leon get to know each other. Leon wants this to happen slowly and carefully. Leon thinks respect is important so that comes first and then power comes later.

He moved his feet. His boots touched the cold stone floor. It was like the floor was checking to see if he was really serious. His hand closed around the air near the handle of his sword. He did this slowly and carefully. This was not the grip of a man who had just won something but the gentle touch of the sword when he was meeting it for the first time. He was being careful with the sword. The sword was like someone, to him.

A quiet smile came onto his lips. It was not a smile of winning or being better than others. It was something. This smile happened because he saw that someone had a desire that was like his own strong desire. The smile was about seeing that they were similar, in this way.

We will meet again soon. I promise that we will meet again soon.

The words formed in his mind like a vow spoken in a half-lit chapel.

When that time comes we will see what kind of chaos Music Festival can create together with Music Festival.

We will have a lot of fun. Music Festival will be really crazy with Music Festival.

We will all be there together. Music Festival will be totally wild, with Music Festival.

His hand was really close to the sword. You could feel that the air around it was thick and heavy with something that you could not see. You knew it was there. He could tell that the metal was cool even though he was not touching it and he could feel how heavy it was and what it was meant for. The sword was not a piece of metal. It had a lot of history behind it. It was like the sword was hungry, for something. The sword was waiting for him to do something with it. The sword was waiting.

The blade just stayed still. It did not move all. The blade was completely motionless.

It did not need to.

It was quiet— not empty, not asleep— but coiled with a vast, patient presence, as if it were watching him just as closely as he watched it.

A strange heat rushed through Leon’s veins, sharper and more intoxicating than any battlefield adrenaline. This wasn’t gold. This wasn’t power in the simple, crude sense.

This was something deeper.

He wasn’t standing before loot.

He was standing before a partner.

A weapon with a will.

A trial that would never grow dull.

A road that would never be safe.

A destiny that had just noticed him.

For the first time in what felt like forever, Leon released a slow breath, letting the tension drain from his shoulders. His heartbeat slowed, syncing with that faint, almost imperceptible hum rising from the sword—as if the two of them were already beginning to find a shared rhythm.

The air between them stretched, thick and charged. Nothing moved. And yet, everything had already changed.

Leon stepped closer. Close enough now that he could trace the shape of the hilt with his eyes. When his fingers finally brushed against it, a subtle vibration answered him—ancient, restrained, aware. It was like touching the edge of something eternal, something that had been waiting far longer than he had been alive.

And soon... he whispered, almost to the sword itself, we will.
