Warhammer Divine Throne

The Little Mercenary became more and more talkative, his words as wonderful as winter liquor and warm sunshine. The soldiers responsible for defending the city were quickly won over by Banda’s eloquence. After each shift, his various bizarre stories became the soldiers’ favorite. It only took a day for Banda to gain everyone’s trust.

The following day, watching as Laine led an army out of the city, the Little Mercenary standing on the city wall knew his opportunity had come.

That night.

Today, it was Banda’s turn to take the watch with another soldier. The two were to guard the winch of the city gate at night.

The cold moonlight shone on the two guards, and an unsettling atmosphere permeated among the garrison. The soldier partnered with Banda shivered in the cold wind, cursing the Barbarians incessantly, only stopping when he ran out of words.

The soldier sniffed hard, then curiously asked the motionless Banda, ”What’s wrong, brother? Do you think we can survive this war?”

”I don’t know. I only know that my opportunity has come!” Banda walked gently behind the soldier and then looked in surprise below the city tower, ”Oh my God, what is that?”

”What?” The soldier ran curiously to the parapet of the wall to look down, but found nothing: ”What did you see? Banda?”

A cold dagger pierced his chest, and his mouth was covered. After a brief convulsion, the thin body lost its vitality: ”I saw death.”

”Next...” The Little Mercenary murmured to himself. He let the soldier stand in place and then used the cold wall and long spear to assist in fixing his posture, ensuring his position could be seen by many.

”That’s it.” Banda had already obtained enough information from the soldiers who trusted him. He calculated the guard shift change time and then quietly seized the moment to flee.

It must be said that Banda truly had enough talent. Being taken as a student by Viert, the Great Swordsman, was not without reason. If he hadn’t fallen into infatuation with Councillor Jialan, his future would have been very promising.

”Wait for me, Lady Trovik!” Banda hid himself in the dark corridor of the tower, muttering to himself.

”I’ll soon show you the most beautiful...”

”The most beautiful, fireworks.”

”Boom!” In the early morning hours, the explosion at the East Gate awakened the entire city from their dreams.

”What’s happening? What’s happening?”

”What happened?”

”It’s bad! The city gate has fallen!”

”Is it the Barbarians breaking in?”

The citizens and refugees fell into extreme panic, running and shouting to each other, trampling over one another. The docks were crowded with people trying to escape by ship. In the cries and crowding, people continued to fall into the water. Inside the city, people jostled and trampled, countless deaths and injuries, and despair filled every corner.

Lord’s Castle.

Hearing the explosion, Albert awoke with a start from his sleep, instinctively reaching for the sword hilt at his bedside. He called out, ”Guards!”

”Your Lordship!” Several attendants immediately rushed in from outside.

”What happened? Tell me quick! Did the Barbarians break in?” Albert immediately realized something was wrong and shouted frantically at the attendants.

”No, don’t know! We just woke up as well.” The attendants responded in a panic, also bewildered.

Loyal soldiers quickly brought news.

A huge explosion occurred in the armory at the East Gate. The room storing the artillery for defending the city was detonated under unknown circumstances. More than twenty night watch soldiers or mercenaries were either killed or wounded, and a few were missing.

The worst was not the loss of military strength, but... the East Gate had been blown down!

”My Lord, the city gate has collapsed! The drawbridge’s hinge has also been damaged!” Bamboo Knight Waldemar arrived at the Count’s castle, speaking with a painful heart: ”The East Gate is now a ruin, we’ve lost the cover of the walls and are about to face the Barbarians’ direct assault!”

”Who did it?! Who did it?!” Albert’s eyes turned blood red. The Count, ignoring that he was only in thin sleepwear, crazily grabbed Waldemar’s collar: ”Tell me, who did it?!”

”I don’t know, my Lord. A total of more than twenty people died in the explosion, and several were missing. We cannot determine the suspect in a short time.” Waldemar spoke with a near-crying expression: ”My Lord, we are doomed, we are doomed. Without the wall, how can we resist Bireg’s four thousand Barbarian army?”

”Damn it! Damn it! Damn it!!” The forty-something Count paced frantically in his bedroom.

”Count, let’s escape! Let’s flee to the south!” Waldemar cautiously suggested behind Albert: ”There are still a few passenger ships at the dock. The Barbarians won’t arrive until the day after tomorrow at the earliest. We can board the ship first.”

”And then? As the Count of Mijordenhaven, am I a coward who abandons his territory?” Albert snorted twice in laughter, then looked at his Kingdom Knight: ”It’s unimaginable, Waldemar, that you, my knight, can only come up with such a low idea as fleeing?”

”That’s not what I mean, my Lord. What I mean is... we could do this,” Waldemar honestly didn’t want to fight. His Kingdom Knight title was inherited from his father. He was only in his thirties and hadn’t lived enough of the noble life: ”We could entrust the city defense to Nikolai and Laine! Then we can wait on the passenger ship for the outcome. If Nikolai and Laine can lead the garrison to hold the city, then of course, everyone would be happy...”

”And if they can’t hold?” Albert sneered.

”If they can’t hold... I mean if, then we can temporarily go out to sea, you know. Our reinforcements are coming soon. We just need to hide at sea for a day or two. When the Empire’s reinforcements arrive, we can take the opportunity to land again and attack from both sides... uh, inside and outside! This way, no one would think we’re fleeing. It’s strategy, yes, strategy!” Waldemar saw that Albert did not object, thinking there was hope, so his tone became much lighter: ”What do you think of this idea?”

”You’re truly clever, Waldemar. Coming up with such a strategy isn’t easy. I must reward you.” Albert clapped forcefully, but the mockery at the corner of his mouth wouldn’t fade. He called out to the outside: ”Emil? Bring your men in, I have something to instruct!”

”You don’t have to be like this, I’m just suggesting, the decision is still yours, My Lord Count!” Waldemar said a bit sheepishly, his eyes flickering.

”Count!” Several fully armed guards rushed in from outside, all in full armor, holding long halberds, with sharp swords hanging at their waists.

”Seize him!” Albert suddenly drew his sword, pointing at Waldemar standing in front of him, shouting angrily.

”What?”
