Warhammer Divine Throne

At this moment, an unexpected event occurred. The white flames in the brazier exploded, a strong wind rose within the temple, and a white void gate opened inside. A gigantic white wolf jumped out from the gate, the herald incarnation of Yurik!

”Oh! My lord!” The temple priest immediately led everyone inside to kneel, tears filled their eyes as their years of prayers were finally answered, the White Wolf War God Yurik had descended!

But they quickly realized that the White Wolf War God hadn’t descended for their sake, because a White Wolf Knight stood at the door.

”Kid, you’ve done well.” The white wolf spoke in human tongue, glancing at the kneeling people around as it extended its fluffy paw: ”All of you, leave now, I have something to say to him... Oh, and bring five pounds of cooked lamb and some wine!”

”Yes!” Faced with the oracle of the deity, the priests murmured their compliance and then collectively exited.

Only the white wolf and Laine remained inside. Laine first respectfully kneeled on one knee before the white wolf, then offered Tauros’s head to it: ”My lord...”

”Hmm... Your courage and faith please me greatly.” The white wolf nodded, signaling Laine to place the head into the divine fire, then said: ”You will be rewarded.”

Upon hearing the promise of a reward, Laine felt stirred inside, but showed no reaction on his face, and instead appeared a bit anxious: ”Um, my lord, regarding the Ancient Saint...”

”... Be patient, kid, as my follower, you need to learn to talk while eating.” The huge white wolf’s tail swayed back and forth, making Laine think how much this white wolf resembled a husky.

Uh... I shouldn’t think that way, that’s blasphemous.

But it really does look like one.

As Laine’s mind wandered, the priests brought in the cooked lamb and wine. The husky motioned Laine to enjoy them freely, while it opened its large mouth, gnawing vigorously at the lamb: ”Kid, do you want to know about the Ancient Saints?”

”Yes.”

”Can you tell me why you want to know about the Ancient Saints?” The husky chomped a large chunk of lamb, chewing liberally.

”Because... curiosity, and also... hmm, wanting to understand why they were so powerful.” Laine feigned hesitation, then slowly spoke: ”My lord, don’t you think, whether it’s dwarves or elves, or any other creations of the Ancient Saints, they all surpass humans, don’t they?”

The implication of Laine’s words was simple.

Compared to dwarves or elves, humans have innate disadvantages. Elves can easily live for hundreds of years, powerful elves can live for thousands of years. It was once boastfully said by an elf that if not for the curse of the Phoenix Throne, our king would almost never fade with time, which is not a lie. Dwarves too are long-lived, living several centuries is no issue.

Elves inherently have a high affinity for magic, dwarves are born warriors, why do humans have no such advantages?

”Humph~ Young people always like to overthink, well then, let me tell you what I know, listen carefully, kid, it’s storytelling time now.” The husky stuck out its tongue and then began: ”It was around over ten thousand years ago that the Ancient Saints descended onto this world.”

Laine bowed his head indicating sincere listening and refrained from speaking further.

”Was it seventeen thousand years ago? Or sixteen thousand years ago? I can’t quite recall the exact number, but in any case, the Ancient Saints used an interstellar teleportation gate to come to this world.” The large husky seemed to be reminiscing about the past, it swallowed the lamb in its mouth and continued: ”Their appearance had smooth heads, long limbs, and big bellies.”

Laine thought that matched the intel from his father!

”The Ancient Saints did many things. How they created I don’t quite understand, what I know is, they brought planets closer and altered their orbits, making the Prime Material World more habitable for living beings... In short, they first created the Shilan Demon Toad -- a powerful magical being made in their image, then they created lizardmen to be their servants.”

”Elves and dwarves were also created, you already know their former glory, and then the Ancient Saints soon left this world.”

”But about seventeen hundred years ago, during the end of the Great Calamity, around the time Charlemagne waged wars widely, the Ancient Saints hastily returned to this world. They seemed to be fleeing from something but ultimately failed to escape. Just soon after their return, a cataclysmic explosion occurred at the teleportation gate located in the Northern Wasteland. Whether the Ancient Saints escaped or perished in the explosion is unknown, what I do know is this explosion led to the arrival of four malevolent existences from beyond the galaxies.” The husky stuck out its tongue.

”You mean, Chaos?” Laine seemed to gain a sudden understanding.

”Yes, this wasn’t the first descension of Chaos, what you know as the first descension was actually the second. The first Chaos descension happened shortly after the Ancient Saints left, we call it the Battle of the Great Vortex. Back then humans were still - consuming raw meat and drinking blood; it was Shilan, together with elves and dwarves, that repelled the Chaos Army. To repel Chaos, the first Phoenix King of the elves, Ailario, even paid his life, in the end, the elves created the Great Vortex, which drained the Wind of Chaos needed for Chaos to descend. Then Shilan used the ’Great Guardian’ to close the portal.” The husky’s face turned solemn: ”But during the second descension, the elves were split into High Elves and Dark Elves, engaged in a desperate civil war. I determined at that time that solely relying on humans and dwarves was insufficient to fight against the Chaos Army, which is why I chose to descend in person.”

”But let’s set that aside for now, returning to the topic of the Ancient Saints, their return brought a deep calamity. The once-sealed teleportation gates were opened once more, and permanently too. Therefore, all creatures in the Prime Material World are now forever under the threat of Chaos, endless and relentless!” The husky drank a cup of strong wine heartily, howling: ”That’s all I know.”

”Oh right, the appearance of the green skins was also the work of the Ancient Saints, their spacecraft carried many green spores, which eventually became those damn green skins!” The husky having eaten its fill of meat and drunk its fill of wine, the ground littered with bones, stretched out its fluffy paw to casually wipe its mouth: ”That’s all I know, is there anything else you want to ask, kid?”

”Is that so, then... did the Ancient Saints leave any relics? Surely the magnificent Creator has left some relics for me to admire, right?” Laine looked like he had accepted Yurik’s answer, but still seemed somewhat curious.

”Speaking of relics, near this city there’s one, it’s a Compass used by the Ancient Saints to record time.” The husky picked up an enormous bull’s head, disappearing from the other side of the teleportation gate.

Hearing this news, Laine lowered his head, his eyes flashing with brilliance, he respectfully saw off Yurik. The priests of the White Wolf Church gradually returned, cautiously asking: ”Did my lord have any instructions?”

”He said that I would receive a reward.”

A few priests exchanged glances, the leading priest nodded, then under Laine’s gaze, took out a glass bottle... dipped a scoop of white greasy substance from a large barrel to the side into it, and then handed it over to Laine: ”Please, sir.”

Just this? Laine looked at the small bottle filled with white grease, and his facial expression twitched slightly, silently nodding, then leaving the White Wolf Divine Hall.

No one noticed Laine’s concealed expression and clenched fists.

Just a bottle of oil! And a chunk of ordinary history!

The White Wolf Holy Oil is a handy tool for maintaining weapons, granted, but it’s not worth much, such a small jar of oil can be bought in any White Wolf Divine Hall! A jar priced at two Gold Dinars!!

Just giving me this?!
