The Wealthy Tycoon's Game of Life

Chapter 1030: Chapter 384: The Assistant Forced to Show Off

Among the former classmates, there were only a few who left a deep impression on Xu Wenqian, and Young Master Jian was one of them.

It wasn’t just because Young Master Jian’s family had money, but rather due to his love of maintaining appearances, or what could be called his penchant for showing off.

For example, back in university, when the class organized an autumn outing, the original plan was to go to a rural homestay, but upon reaching the destination, everyone unexpectedly found themselves at an international hot spring resort. Faced with an equally confused counselor, Young Master Jian, who was the class president at the time, stepped forward, waved it off casually and said:

”Oh, no mistake here. I personally spent 20,000 yuan for everyone to have a better time... no need to thank me, really!”

Oh right, his position as class president was also secured through ”gift-giving.”

The reason Xu Wenqian knew about this was because she was also a strong contender for class president at that time, but Young Master Jian gave her a purse and politely asked her to withdraw from the election.

Xu Wenqian didn’t accept the LV purse, but she still withdrew from the election, allowing Young Master Jian to become president as he wished.

For these reasons, Young Master Jian naturally left a strong impression on everyone. His personality often led him to be overly generous, so aside from a few, others had a reasonably good impression of him.

At their Magic City class reunions, Young Master Jian would occasionally make an appearance, and he was always the last to arrive, as if to show how busy he was; everyone except Xu Wenqian had gotten used to this.

Because they were waiting for Young Master Jian to arrive, Wang Lijia didn’t hurry the waiter to serve the dishes and instead opened some champagne first. After everyone had toasted, they began to chat casually.

This group in Magic City was quite familiar with each other’s situations, so after a few words, the topic naturally turned to Xu Wenqian.

Especially the three guys led by Zhao Bin, who were particularly eager to learn about Xu Wenqian’s current situation.

In university, even without makeup and fancy clothes, Xu Wenqian was already the prettiest girl in class. Now, there was no need to even mention it.

Her long hair, slightly curled at the ends, was pinned up, revealing her smooth, fair neck, and her delicately made-up features were small and beautiful.

The professional suit that would have seemed a bit out of place in this setting actually added a touch of mature charm to her. Her slender, straight legs were wrapped in black stockings, and if not for the table blocking the view, none of the men would have been able to resist sneaking glances.

Just like Wang Lijia often praised her with a hint of envy, Xu Wenqian was now the ”pinnacle of administrative beauty,” and her radiance only shone brighter in a big city like Magic City.

”Wenxi, so you’re actually working at a company in Ming City and just temporarily on a business trip to Magic City?”

After Xu Wenqian briefly explained her reason for being in Magic City, Zhao Bin asked curiously.

”Yes, but barring any surprises, I might have to stay here for quite a while...”

”Hey, Wenxi, why don’t you just quit your job and stay in Magic City to develop your career?”

”Yeah, for those of us with a background in finance, finding a decent job in Magic City shouldn’t be too hard.”

”Even if after a few years you find that you’re not suited here, you could always go back or move to another city. Your starting point would surely be higher then.”

Whether out of genuine concern for Xu Wenqian or with other hidden thoughts, the guys began to persuade her.

Before Xu Wenqian had a chance to say anything, Wang Lijia rolled her eyes and said, ”Hey, hey, don’t make it sound so simple. Wenqian’s current job isn’t bad either, not to mention the salary, but at least she has six insurances and two funds. Do you have that?”

”What, six insurances and two funds?!”

All the classmates were shocked upon hearing this.

Even in a city like Magic City, a company that offers five insurances and one fund is considered quite conscientious, let alone six insurances and two funds.

... Actually, Wang Lijia didn’t know if it was true either. After all, she also hoped Xu Wenqian would stay in Magic City, but at that moment, she instinctively stood on Xu Wenqian’s side to help her out.

”So does that mean, Qianqian, you’re with a large state-owned enterprise? If that’s the case, then...”

”No, it’s a private company.”

Xu Wenqian shook her head immediately.

”Oh?” Zhao Bin asked with interest, ”I was considering staying in Ming City back then, so I know most of the well-known private enterprises there. Which one are you with?”

”Wangzhou Culture... You might not have heard of it; it was just founded this year.”

”Wangzhou Culture?”

After Zhao Bin thought about it for a moment without recalling it, he was amazed and clicked his tongue, ”Your boss must be quite conscientious then...”

There was something inexplicable about Zhao Bin’s smile, and Xu Wenqian sensed a certain implication but didn’t respond. Another girl, more familiar with Xu Wenqian, Huang Hui, seemingly unconcerned, commented:

”As long as the income is high enough, what does it matter if there are six insurances and two funds? If you can’t even afford the down payment, the provident fund is useless to you!”

This drew nods of approval and laughs from the crowd, especially in a city like Magic City with such a heavy cost of living. They all understood that too well.

Despite everyone here earning at least 20,000 a month, given their current incomes, buying a house here was simply impossible.

”So, Wenxi, instead of working for a small company in Ming City, why not join a big enterprise in Magic City and aim for a higher salary? Since you save quite frugally, you could save up for a few years, and then you’d have enough for a down payment in Ming City when you go back. How comfortable—at least that’s what I think.”
