Tyrant Sky Martial Soul

Chapter 368: Chapter 368: Claiming the Task_1

Ling Xiao was not an Inner Sect Disciple, and he could only receive Sect missions when participating in the Inner Sect joint training.

If he missed this opportunity, he would have to wait until he was promoted to the Inner Sect to earn points.

That would be a bit too late.

On the mission announcement board, the introduction to the Sect missions was even more detailed.

Completing Sect missions could earn one Sect points, Spirit Stones, Gold, and other rewards, which mainly depended on the difficulty of the task.

If the mission failed, not only would one fail to receive any rewards, but one would also be punished.

This was also to prevent some people from biting off more than they could chew and accepting missions beyond their capabilities for the sake of a large reward, which would not only waste time but also damage the reputation of the Sect.

The more times one failed, the more severe the punishment became.

It might start with a salary penalty, then perhaps Sect points would be deducted, and reaching a certain extent could even lead to the forfeiture of one’s Martial Arts or expulsion from the Sect, or possibly even a direct death sentence.

Therefore, although there were many benefits to Sect missions, one couldn’t just recklessly accept them.

There was no requirement for the number of people on a mission, but since the rewards were fixed, naturally fewer people would mean a larger share for each.

But most people still preferred to complete missions in teams, after all, the higher the difficulty of the missions, the more teamwork could reduce it.

Ling Xiao roughly checked and discovered that the Moon Hua Sect’s Sect missions were divided into ten levels, each corresponding to the ten realms of the Transcendent Realm.

From Transcendent Realm First Layer to Nine Layers, plus one Half-step Celestial.

This corresponded exactly to the ten levels of tasks.

For example, a level one mission would be for a Transcendent Realm First Layer Warrior to complete.

And a level two mission could be done by a Transcendent Realm Second Layer Warrior or by two or more Transcendent Realm First Layer Warriors.

As for how to go about it or how to form a team, it was all up to the warriors themselves.

Ling Xiao calculated that his current cultivation level was in the early stage of the Transcendent Realm Second Layer, so if he were to accept a mission, level two would be best, as it would be very easy to complete on his own.

However, he was someone who enjoyed challenges.

He had no interest in level two missions, instead, he set his eyes on the level three missions.

Only such missions would be challenging for one person to complete, could serve to hone oneself, and could also earn more points and other rewards.

”Found one!”

Ling Xiao quickly found a mission that was very suitable for him to carry out, and the rewards seemed quite generous.

Of course, the key point was that he had just successfully cultivated the ”Nine Demonic Divine Arts: Plague Demon King,” which made him completely fearless of plague toxins and even allowed him to use them to attack the enemy.

And this mission was related to the plague.

Mission Name: Investigating Plague Valley

Mission Brief: Located in the western wilderness of the Northern Han Kingdom, there is a large valley shrouded in plague. Approximately hundreds of households lived in the valley, but now their fate is unknown. Rumors state that there is a terrible Ferocious Beast within the valley that survives and cultivates by harnessing the plague.

Mission Objective: Head to the Plague Valley, find out the cause of the plague, and kill the Plague Beast. Eliminating the Plague Beast will earn additional rewards.

Ling Xiao had heard about the Plague Valley in the past; when he was a beggar, he heard storytellers talk about it.

Back then, the Plague Valley was the most terrifying nightmare for him.

But now, he really wanted to see what secrets lay within the Plague Valley.

It was said that Sect Disciples had undertaken this mission before, including disciples from Moon Hua Sect, even those who were Transcendent Realm Third Layer warriors, in teams, and yet, none of them had returned in the end.

In the past, this mission was rated as level two, but after continuous incidents, it had been raised to level three.

Accepted!

Ling Xiao didn’t hesitate, he took the mission token and went to accept the mission.

The same mission could be taken by multiple people, and whoever completed it first would receive the reward.

Of course, there were limits to this as well.

For instance, this level three task can only be taken by a maximum of two teams at the same time.

Ling Xiao had just taken down the task token, when a team of three also came over to take one.

Of the three, one was at the apex of the Transcendent Realm Third Layer in terms of cultivation level, while the other two were both at the early stage of the Transcendent Realm Third Layer.

It must be said that this team’s strength was very formidable, and it seemed somewhat abnormal for them to exert so much effort for a level three task.

Ling Xiao had his reasons to be puzzled.

And his guess was not at all wrong.

”Ah, still not in time.”

Just as Ling Xiao had registered the task, filled in his name, and left the Inner Sect Main Hall, he happened to meet Zhao Zhi head-on.

Zhao Zhi wore a look of helplessness.

”What happened?”

Ling Xiao asked with some curiosity.

”I know those three people; the strongest among them is called Wan Yan Jun, and the other two are Chen Zui and Shangguan Lei. They have a very good relationship with Hei Suo. Although I’m not too clear whether this matter is related to Hei Suo or not, they will definitely be detrimental to you!”

Zhao Zhi warned.

”No wonder I always felt that three Transcendent Realm Third Layer martial artists taking on a level three task was a bit overqualified.”

Ling Xiao smiled and said, ”Thanks for the heads-up, Senior Brother Zhao, but it’s okay. The main reason I took this task is that it’s more suitable for me, and the rewards are quite good. Just for completing the investigation, you get one hundred Low-grade Spirit Stones and one hundred Sect points; if you can slay the Plague Beast, the reward doubles.”

”If you’re dead, no amount of rewards will be of any use.”

Zhao Zhi said urgently.

”Senior Brother Zhao, I know you mean well, but I’m truly not concerned about those three, it’s just that I’m a bit disappointed.”

”Disappointed about what?”

”Disappointed that Hei Suo didn’t join them. If he had, I could have settled our score once and for all.”

Ling Xiao revealed a cold smile.

He was not the kind of person who liked waiting to be outmaneuvered.

He preferred to take the initiative and strike first.

”If these three really intend to harm me, I will not let them return alive.”

Ling Xiao spoke as if he was mentioning a very ordinary matter.

”But those are three Transcendent Realm Third Layer masters!”

Zhao Zhi was completely flabbergasted.

He didn’t know if Ling Xiao had lost his mind or if his own judgement of Ling Xiao had been mistaken. Could Ling Xiao be even stronger than he had imagined?

In his eyes, Ling Xiao was equivalent to an early-stage master of the Transcendent Realm Third Layer.

The reason he was able to easily defeat Jian Renwang, who had taken the Devil Transformation Pill, was because Jian Renwang had lost his sanity after his strength had surged.

Such an enemy wasn’t difficult to deal with; even if one’s strength was a bit weaker, it was still manageable.

But now, according to Ling Xiao, he didn’t even care about three Transcendent Realm Third Layer masters?

”Ling Junior Brother, just how strong have you really become.”

Zhao Zhi couldn’t help but smile bitterly.

”That’s a secret, but you will find out eventually. Take this, Senior Brother Zhao, as a token of my gratitude,” Ling Xiao said as he tossed the Martial Arts Secret Book of the Heavenly Dragon Finger to Zhao Zhi.

It was a spur-of-the-moment decision.

It benefitted him greatly to have Zhao Zhi’s assistance, and he felt he should offer something in return to ensure Zhao Zhi would be willing to help him out.
