Border (Special Base)

Jeremy Night entered the green patch area. The helmet device was recording everything. He used his second eye power to observe the place.

He didn’t find any corrupted beasts lurking there. It gave him confidence to explore. He then continued to go forward.

He came across different plants and trees. It didn’t take long for him to discover the reason behind the greenery.

He saw a small lake ahead. When he got there, he saw the footprints of corrupted beasts on the ground. They were not old.

Jeremy Night’s expression shifted. So many thoughts appeared in his mind. He understood that it was an important place.

There was no telling when the corrupted beasts might come here. It might be the only drinking source in the surrounding barren area.

He decided not to stay there any longer. He turned around and returned to the border stretch quickly.

His curiosity was satisfied. Some of those footprints were large; they were certainly the footprints of higher-tier beasts.

After coming back to the border stretch, he continued walking alone. The mission was to explore the land behind the border here.

But he had encountered the Tier-7 Gray Spider Beast earlier. He would wait until Stella recovered completely.

Then he might try to enter the place again.

As time passed, he covered more distance. He took out the device to check from time to time. He saw that parts of the border stretch were not marked.

So his current work was not completely useless. He was focused on covering the remaining distance. From time to time, he also paid attention to his mental zone.

He saw the beast egg inside the mental zone. He should not use the words ”beast egg” anymore. He saw that Stella was absorbing natural energy from the surroundings.

She was not awake yet. He was so focused on the work that he forgot about the time. When evening came, he heard her voice again.

[I’m good now.]

”Stella, are you alright?”

”I want to resume the mission. I have only been walking along the border stretch,” Jeremy told her.

[Yes, I have recovered. You can try exploring the barren land again.]

Stella said to him.

After hearing that, Jeremy Night took out the device and checked the current area.

Only the border stretch was marked. There was no information on the barren area; it was completely blank on the map.

He then put away the device and decided to explore the barren area here. He crossed the border and started moving forward.

Similarly, flat open land greeted him. But this time, he found something strange. There were no cracks on the ground, and the soil seemed solid and a little wet.

Stella was not quiet. She was observing the place with her consciousness. The sudden appearance of the Tier-7 Spider Beast earlier had alerted her.

She didn’t want a similar thing to happen.

Boom!

He had only crossed a couple of hundred metres when he felt a tremor underneath his feet.

The next second, he saw the ground suddenly split ahead.

Seeing that, his heart jolted. His senses warned him. He knew something was wrong.

[Get back!]

He heard Stella’s stern voice. He used the movement method to retreat backward.

Boom!

Right then, the ground ahead was filled with cracks. It didn’t take long for the cracks to spread. The next moment, a large hole appeared.

It was a mud hole. The mud hole was 10 to 15 metres wide.

The cracked earth boulders fell inside the mud hole. The sound of stones touching the bottom didn’t come until a couple of seconds later.

Swoosh!

Seeing that, Jeremy Night backed up further. After seeing that mud hole, he recalled something. Elder John had advised him about the threats.

The threats were not from the corrupted beasts, but from the mud holes.

”I guess it’s the real location,” Jeremy Night muttered.

He checked the helmet device. It was on, so it was recording the mud hole as well. It was the first time in his life he had seen such a large mud hole.

He didn’t know how many metres deep it was. He thought the mud hole must have swallowed countless corrupted beasts.

That was why he didn’t come across any corrupted beasts after crossing the small green lake. It could be the unannounced border of the corrupted beasts.

[It’s a dangerous terrain.]

Jeremy heard Stella’s voice.

”Yeah, it is. No wonder the area was blank on the map. At least they should have marked the dangers,” he replied in his mind.

Tremor!

The sound came from the mud hole for a couple of seconds. Then it stopped. Jeremy Night didn’t move from his spot.

He then looked around him and found a fist-sized stone. He thought his movements had triggered the mud hole.

Next, he picked up the fist-sized stone and threw it into the distance.

Swoosh!

The stone flew past the mud hole and landed a hundred metres ahead of it. When it landed on the ground.

Thud!

It created a small thud. Seeing that, Jeremy Night thought it was solid ground.

Boom!

After a couple of seconds, he felt the tremor again. His eyes widened in disbelief as he spotted cracks on the ground again.

The cracks started to expand.

Boom!

With a loud sound, another mud hole appeared on the ground. The mud hole was 20 metres wide, even bigger than the previous one.

Jeremy Night broke out into a cold sweat. He could not imagine what was inside the mud hole. If it were the elders, they could use their flight ability to get out.

But he was only a Tier-3 Beast Tamer now. He needed to be at least a Tier-5 Beast Tamer to use the flight ability.

[Are you going to continue with the mission?]

Jeremy heard Stella’s voice.

Hearing that, Jeremy Night calmed his heart.

”The helmet device is recording everything. I cannot go back empty-handed. The rewards are huge. Maybe I could help you hatch earlier with the resources,” he replied in his mind.

[There is no need to take risks. I’m absorbing natural energy all day and night. I will come out soon.]

Stella replied in his mind.
