Pillar of Yita

Fortunately, Fang Hong was not concerned with such matters.

He remained silent for a moment before asking:

”You... are looking for me?”

The question was somewhat abrupt and odd. If he were unaware of it, how would he end up here?

But Mayer Hill did not mind, and he slowly nodded.

”Is it a Divine Oracle from Lady Marlan?” Fang Hong instinctively wanted to say Lord Goddess, but then he realized he was not a believer of Marlan. Only the believers used such a term, usually saying ’our goddess above.’ Otherwise, it would sound slightly offensive.

Lady Marlan is the formal title for this God of War by outsiders.

”Yes.”

”But why...”

Mayer Hill saw his bewildered expression and, with no trace of surprise, said calmly: ”The Divine Oracle from Lord Goddess states that the person she seeks has appeared, and she commands us to find the Savior of Fenris.”

’The person she seeks has appeared,’ that phrase sounded profound to Fang Hong. The sought person undoubtedly referred to himself. Although he dared not claim to be Fenris Isle’s ’Savior,’ his contributions to the event were well-known, being too humble would seem insincere.

And the words ’has appeared’ indicated that the Lord Goddess did not act on a whim.

Could it be that she had been waiting for such an opportunity?

Fang Hong couldn’t help but think with slight apprehension.

Omniscience and omnipotence were merely crowns given to deities by believers, but beings truly possessing such abilities might not exist in Eteliria. Deities also focused only on their domains, and even the wise Knowledge God, Angina, dared not claim to know the past entirely.

At least the followers of the Sun Gods knew nothing of events before their time.

Let alone predicting the future.

But indeed, there were some ancient prophecies...

For example, the Abyssal Sea Scroll.

If from an Invoker’s perspective, there was any great power, then that enigmatic ability to foresee clearly belonged to the category of ’miracle,’ evoking a sense of insignificance and an inability to hide from unknown forces.

Fang Hong carefully asked: ”Could you tell me, is this related to a certain prophecy...?”

But Mayer Hill glanced at him and shook his head: ”Prophecy? The future is shrouded in mist, apart from the Supreme One, Yita, and the daughter of those with a fragment of destiny power, Blind Goddess Ilien—who truly knows? Lord Goddess gives insight but rarely foresees the future.”

Fang Hong was taken aback, thinking, this isn’t according to the script. ”...Then, why me?”

”What the Goddess favors are fearless courage and the ability to change circumstances; those heroes of today are precisely whom she favors.”

Fang Hong couldn’t help but be stunned.

So Lady Marlan pomp and circumstance delivered a Divine Oracle to find him, just for this?

He opened his mouth, originally thinking it had to be a callback to some ancient prophecy, searching for a savior or gateway opener type of routine—but how it sounded was that she just admired his performance on Fenris?

The mystery that had just risen in his heart suddenly completely collapsed, leaving only chaos. He had heard of such a routine and was not unfamiliar—wasn’t this just Marlan picking her God’s Choice routine? Typically, every fifteen years she picks one for her God’s Choice.

And the replacement process for each diocese’s Archbishop seemed to fit right in, approximately every fifteen years per term.

The other deities were roughly the same.

However, he remembered that Marlan’s God’s Choice had only been born three years ago.

And the gods almost never choose Invokers as their God’s Choice—

Mayer Hill nodded: ”The Goddess’s Choice is her spokesperson in the mortal world.”

”Spokesperson?” Fang Hong was slightly frozen: ”Isn’t it God’s Choice?”

”It can also be called God’s Choice,” the elderly knight answered: ”But not entirely so; historical records about spokespersons are rare, but indeed they existed.”

Fang Hong couldn’t help but point to himself: ”...Someone like me?”

Mayer Hill nodded again.

The concept was fresh because it seemed more prestigious than the fifteen-year God’s Choice routine. But Fang Hong perceptively noticed something in the other’s attitude and asked:

”So these Acting Agents, there is more than one, right?”

”Naturally.”

Indeed, Fang Hong inwardly bemoaned a pit.

He felt unsatisfied with the so-called God’s Choice. If someone were very uncommon, there might be a desire to witness it, but such a fifteen-year routine God’s Choice was really too dull, plus he had no intention of competing for the Bishop’s position.

As for that spokesperson saying, it sounded interesting, but if it weren’t unique, what would that mean? It meant it might also be common, plus there sounded to be a heap of trouble waiting for him.

Aware of the precedent, he immediately realized it was also a pit.

Fang Hong instinctively wanted to ask if he could refuse this God’s Choice since even the Lord Goddess could not be unreasonable, right? Besides, he was the Invoker. The Great Holy Temples had signed the ”Stargate Declaration” with Stargate Port, which showed the gods acknowledged this contract, couldn’t back out now?

Overall, the Lord Goddess should consult his personal opinion, right? What if he didn’t want to be this spokesperson? Designating him arbitrarily as a mortal Acting Agent, didn’t that seem a bit presumptuous?

Yet he glanced at the old knight before him and decided against voicing the question.

The other was merely the host of this Holy Sanctuary, likely unable to speak for Marlan on this matter. This question would have to be asked in front of Bishop Faris.

Yet as he thought this, suddenly he had a notion.

Ameya appeared divine, Marlan also manifested divine, recently the gods repeatedly manifested divine in Eteliria, were they all looking for their spokespersons?

But the question arose, as previously mentioned, each God’s Choice has its pattern, although not entirely like Lady Marlan’s fifteen-year cycle, but fundamentally must follow a framework, to prepare believers? Their sudden abnormal search for Acting Agents, does it imply something occurred?

And Fang Hong, struck with a flash of inspiration, almost immediately linked it with these words:

Star of Calamity descends, God of War commences.
