Berserk God of War

Chapter 1497: Chapter 1497: Open and Aboveboard, True to One’s Conscience

Each Canggu Disciple felt a sharp pang of fear in their hearts...

However, Senior Brother Zheng replied fearlessly, ”Elder Cang Lin, why should we bring the people of the Yao Residence with us?”

His tone was justified, and a flash of disdain passed through his eyes.

Instantly, Cang Lin’s gaze shifted to Senior Brother Zheng as he shouted, ”Zheng Ku, what did you say? Say it again!”

Zheng Ku, indeed Senior Brother Zheng...

He froze for a moment, but then straightened his chest and repeated, ”Elder Cang Lin, I asked why must we take the people from the Yao Residence along; they are just a bunch of useless burdens, we almost got... ah!”

Before he could finish, Cang Lin suddenly swung his palm and slapped him viciously, directly sending Zheng Ku flying.

In an instant, the other Canggu Disciples were stunned, and the elders of the Sacred Canggu Peak were also dumbfounded.

They hadn’t expected Cang Lin to be so furious...

They quickly rushed to Senior Brother Zheng’s side to help him up, while another elder ran towards Cang Lin, saying, ”Elder Cang Lin, please don’t be too upset, let’s hear Zheng Ku’s explanation first.”

Then, one after another, they quickly persuaded Cang Lin to calm down.

Everyone was extremely perplexed, wondering if Elder Cang Lin was placing too much importance on the people of the Yao Residence.

To punish a disciple in front of all of Hanluan City was a very shameful thing.

Cang Lin struggled to calm himself, hoarsely saying, ”Fine, explain it clearly to me at once...”

The next moment, Zheng Ku stood up, covering his face...

He called out hot-temperedly, ”Elder Cang Lin, what is there to explain?”

”Just like I said earlier, the people from the Yao Residence are nothing but a burden, and if we don’t abandon them, they will drag us down...”

Then Zheng Ku repeated the argument he had previously made to Tie Ti’er, shouting it forcefully at Cang Lin.

He felt he hadn’t done anything wrong, so he wasn’t afraid at all.

However, Cang Lin was already trembling with rage and continued to ask in a low growl, ”Just because you think the people of the Yao Residence would drag you down, you abandoned them and kicked them out?”

”Don’t you realize that if you kick them out, they might all die?”

With those words, some Canggu Disciples had already slightly lowered their heads. They too felt it wasn’t right, but at that time, those who supported Tie Ti’er in bringing along the people of the Yao Residence were not in the majority.

Their status was relatively low, so they didn’t dare to say anything in that situation.

”Isn’t it better than one of us dying?”

Zheng Ku still replied fearlessly, ”Elder Cang Lin, why do you keep siding with outsiders? The lives of the people from the Yao Residence matter, but do our lives not?”

Once he finished speaking, Cang Lin’s hand rose again, but this time it was blocked by the other elders who were prepared for it.

One after another, they continued to persuade, not allowing Cang Lin to hit Zheng Ku again...

Listening to these words of persuasion, Cang Lin gradually began to smile wryly. He swept away the elders and looked at all the Canggu Disciples once more, his eyes clouded as he asked, ”Is this what you also think?”

Some lowered their heads, while others met Cang Lin’s gaze.

After three breaths, a Canggu Sky King Realm disciple stepped forward and said, ”Elder Cang Lin, we have to prioritize the bigger picture. We really have wronged the people of the Yao Residence, but they did indeed bring us a lot of unnecessary trouble.”

This response made the wry smile on Cang Lin’s face even more pronounced...

At that moment, Cang Lin slowly turned to Tie Ti’er and asked, ”Ti’er, is this what you think as well?”

Tie Ti’er was still on the edge of the Chaotic First Zone, she turned her head blankly...

”Grandfather Cang Lin, I don’t know.”

”Bringing the Yao Residence means our people face the risk of death, but not bringing them means they will die.”

”I really don’t know what to do. Grandfather Cang Lin, can you teach me?”

With the sound of Tie Ti’er’s confused and panicked voice fading.

The wry smile on Cang Lin’s face slightly abated, as he realized Tie Ti’er was simply too young to know how to handle this.

Though she seemed mischievous and was usually very decisive, she had never before encountered such a consequential life and death decision; it was indeed too difficult for her at this time.

”Sigh...”

With a light sigh, Cang Lin clearly understood that Tie Ti’er was certainly being pressured by others, so he looked once more at Zheng Ku and the others, and asked, ”What bigger picture do you now speak of?”

Upon hearing this, Zheng Ku immediately straightened himself and replied, ”Of course, the Battle for the Zones is the bigger picture, we must win.”

Many other Canggu Disciples also nodded heavily, as did the elders...

”Wrong!”

But what responded to them was Cang Lin’s heavy voice. He gazed deeply at everyone, ”The so-called bigger picture means doing things with a clear conscience. Now, feel your conscience, do you feel guilty or not?”

With these words, the ones who had lowered their heads lowered them even further, while those who hadn’t, remained as they were.

Just like Zheng Ku who continued, ”Why should we feel guilty, we...”

Unfinished, Cang Lin interrupted again, ”You think the Battle for the Zones is important, but from my perspective, and from the Peak Master’s perspective, it isn’t that important. It is merely a means of tempering you.”

”The so-called bigger picture is to let the world see that our Sacred Canggu Peak is upright, answerable to heaven and earth.”

”The so-called bigger picture is to show those who would eat our Sacred Canggu Peak alive that we advance bravely, unafraid of any challenge, and yet we abandon our comrades at the slightest difficulty—how would our enemies see that?”

”And how would those who follow our Sacred Canggu Peak without regret see that?”

His voice heavily echoed in everyone’s ears, causing some disciples and elders to become bewildered.

However, Zheng Ku still sneered, ”Elder Cang Lin, how could those trash from the Yao Residence ever count as our comrades? What qualifications do they have to be our comrades? They are nothing but burdens.”

When he said these words, the Canggu Sky King Realm disciple from before suddenly spoke, ”Junior Brother Zheng, don’t say any more.”

He had already grasped Cang Lin’s intention, so he quickly tried to stop him.

However, Zheng Ku was relentless, ”What have I said wrong? Why shouldn’t I say it? I will say it... why shouldn’t we feel guilty, they aren’t our fathers, why should we take care of them?”

These words pierced heavily at Cang Lin...

Slap!

Suddenly, Cang Lin’s hand rose again. This time, before anyone could stop it, he sent Zheng Ku flying once more.

After that, Cang Lin spoke heavily, ”Perhaps they are not strong enough, perhaps they hinder your progress...”

”I won’t talk about the grand principles of the bigger picture now. I just ask what place you put Ti’er in by doing this?”

”She was the one who first implicated Brother Sikong, so how should your Holy Daughter conduct herself?”

With those words, many of the talent from Canggu were stunned, staring blankly at Tie Ti’er.

Indeed, they hadn’t considered the feelings of the Holy Daughter.
