Surviving The Fourth Calamity

They weren’t quite sure how animal companions were treated elsewhere, but everyone knew that the most formal and least likely to be abandoned by their animal companions were those in Hill Valley.

Except for some large cats who, for special reasons, chose to follow their leaders, other animals from Hill Valley rarely dissolved their contracts with their Undead Tribe friends.

Especially like their Proud Sky Alliance, where whole regiments of animal troops basically followed their companions out into the world.

Then, a situation arose that was acceptable to the Undead Tribe, but not very pleasing to the animal companions... In places like Toril, although the Undead Tribe seemed to enjoy unlimited glory, in reality, that was only when dealing with the Toril humans.

Every time they were dragged into those battlefields of gods and demons, it almost always ended in total annihilation.

In other words, only when it was certain they could win, could the animal companions leave their partner spaces, which though spacious, were lonely.

What was most unbearable for these battle-hardened magical beasts was having to watch their friends fight for their lives.

Even if they knew their friends wouldn’t die, for the self-respecting magical beasts, it wasn’t a reason not to fight.

Especially for a creature like the Wolverine.

He certainly didn’t think himself any worse than a White Dragon... but he also understood that his skin wasn’t as thick as a White Dragon’s.

Their friends didn’t care about their combat abilities but cared very much about their protective capacities.

Yet, he was a Wolverine!

Moreover, even if they were willing to sacrifice some of their advantages in attributes and don heavy metal armor, the Undead Tribe would not want them to risk even a one percent chance of danger.

They surely couldn’t allow themselves to let their companions collapse on the ground, wailing, just for a little self-respect?

Even a creature with a temper as foul and obstinate as a Wolverine couldn’t persist in demanding to fight in the face of their friends’ tears.

Therefore, the magical beasts of Teraxil could only remain in their companion spaces... although they could venture out when it was safe, why waste their gaze on a place like Toril?

After a few world updates, the partner spaces of the Undead Tribe transformed from just a couple of hundred square meters to now having mountains, water, lawns, and flowers for full living mode... though William expressed it ambiguously, the Undead Tribe could understand it was the handiwork of a certain Goddess of the Earth.

Of course, some suspected that this Goddess of the Earth hoped to have as many animals as possible voluntarily leave with the Undead Tribe before she sorted out the genetic contamination caused by the Chief Orc God invasion back then... but since they themselves gained an advantage, and the other’s purpose wasn’t ill-intentioned, why delve deeper and clarify it all coldly and rationally?

As long as the result is good, right!

’Rarely wise to be muddle-headed’ has always been the guideline they believed in their country... unless it impacts their own interests.

However, even the ’Old Age Striking King’ was aware, back then those magical beasts with limited intelligence controlled by other means were passively released when leaving Teraxil.

That is to say, in the Doomsday alliance, there were basically no animal companions.

In the new Doomsday, there are, but that no longer concerns Teraxil.

Ambori’s subordinates, however, gained an advantage... surely Josh’s Embroidered Crabs had a sea to live in, so how could Ambori’s sharks not?

Fortunately, the ocean space was likely related to Agleya.

As the Goddess of the Sea who had interacted with the Undead Tribe even when she was inside Dad’s pearl, she was relatively generous with the Undead Tribe, and wouldn’t begrudge the sea water used by marine creatures from the Otherworld.

As for the Goddess of the Earth... although she wasn’t willing to engage with humans, including the Undead Tribe, her gentleness was palpable to all living beings.

The Undead Tribe figured the Goddess of the Earth didn’t want to touch even a shred of faith, striving to erase even the Demigod and Lesser God identities of Earth Bear that might connect with other creatures from people’s impression.

That wasn’t difficult either.

Even the most devout of believers found it hard to regard Earth Bear as deities when they saw them.

Not to mention it was mostly the three Little Bears, nurtured by Hill, appearing in front of people over the years.

Having seen plenty of mischievous cubs, the Undead Tribe was left speechless by their antics, let alone the Teraxil people.

With thick skin and powerful strength, they played beyond imagination.

Yet the Goddess of the Earth’s gentleness and compassion were indeed felt by everyone... since she awoke halfway, Teraxil immediately enjoyed mild and bright springs with distinct seasons.

Volcanic eruptions and violent earthquakes have indeed become very rare now.

Perhaps because the World Tree, for once, thoroughly managed the planet’s connections, the earth veins rarely experience significant fluctuations now.

Small earthquakes still occur, as even the densest tree roots require some distance and space.

There are bound to be landmasses remaining, plus the oceans!

While the World Tree tried to suppress its primal attributes, it was obvious there were fewer roots under the oceans... don’t ask how the Undead Tribe knew—there were always those willing to dig dozens of kilometers for such curiosity.

And there was an ever-eager-for-entertainment Goddess of the Sea’s indulgence... the Undead Tribe ’huffed and puffed’ digging dirt over there, turning that section of the trench and its overlying sea into chaos, only thanks to Agleya’s permission, were those demigod-level sea monsters stopped from sending them back to the city forcefully.

Although the roots of the World Tree exist in a state between reality and illusion, you can still see those faintly glowing roots in that area.

Similarly, don’t ask why the Undead Tribe knows... Since the day they learned that the planet Teraxil is entirely supported by the roots of the World Tree, the Undead Tribe has embarked on a journey to seek the roots.

This is also why the Undead Tribe considers the Goddess of the Earth to be very gentle.

She clearly knows what kind of trickery the Undead Tribe is up to, and she could easily make those roots invisible to the naked eye if she wanted, yet she fulfills the desires of the Undead Tribe.

She didn’t let anyone’s efforts be wasted... even if those efforts were put into something completely unnecessary and valueless.

Such a Goddess of the Earth is absolutely not going to be displeased because the companion space she helped the God of Time and Space to create is used by animals from other worlds.

Moreover, the ’Old Age Striking King’ smugly stroked the beautiful and smooth fur of his wolverine... could those brainless creatures even compare to the magical beasts of Teraxil?

Let alone those sharks during the doomsday!

If the intelligence of real-life great white sharks is not quite enough, then the sharks of Toril have no intelligence at all.

Tsk~ The intelligence level of sharks in Ambori is probably at the same level as that of great white sharks.

The folks from the doomsday all have a shark, probably just so they have something to grab onto when they fall into the sea.

Their boss couldn’t even get the sharks to form a queue.

”This camp feels a bit off!” Ignoring their conversation, ’Rain Falling on Mortal Dust’ frowned while observing the camp.

”Wasn’t it said that it’s mostly mages and their relatives?” A knight turned his head, ”The people in this world are generally neutral to evil, so their condition is bound to be abnormal.”

”Ji Bei, go chant the Great Compassion Mantra for them.” ’Universal Sky Net’ said with a smile.

”Get lost, I named myself that to remind myself to be a bit kinder, not because I’m a damn monk, how many times do I have to tell you!” ’Ji Bei’ responded with an unhappy face.

”But you are a vegetarian~” ’Universal Sky Net’ continued insistently.

’Ji Bei’ angrily growled: ”I just like eating fruit! I eat meat too! I can eat 5 pounds of steak at once!

Who started the rumor that I was vegetarian?”

”Probably someone who saw you munching on fruit all day?” ’Rain Falling on Mortal Dust’ couldn’t help but laugh.

Then he pointed to the camp below: ”Our task doesn’t need to be done behind someone’s back, it’s all convenient stuff.

Let’s wait for the main group to come together!

This place really is abnormal, although our combat power isn’t weak, there’s no need to get ourselves killed.

We barely escaped being slapped to death by a furious bear paw, there’s no way we’re letting these mid and low-tier mages take such a big advantage!”

”Is it really just mid and low-tier mages?” ’Hard Wind’ had also been observing the activity in the camp, ”Considering the big commotion we made with Hill, there’s no way they don’t know.

But I feel they’re very calm, not panicking at all.

That kind of commotion isn’t something you can cause with just a few people.”

”That Josh, although quite useless, isn’t so useless that he wouldn’t know what kind of people are in his own camp.” ’Old Age Striking King’ answered steadily, ”Just think of him as a spoiled young master.

Every time he messes up, it’s because of himself, not because of family trouble.

They simply don’t see what they don’t want to see.

But for something this important, they must have a good sense of it.

I think the people in this camp are probably spoiled silly by Josh.”

”That’s only somewhat true.” ’Rain Falling on Mortal Dust’ pondered, stroking his chin for a while, ”Josh has too high a regard for himself, being lofty even to ordinary people, which indeed makes those guys feel it’s no problem if more people come.

But that implies they are certain their actions won’t offend people with the same standing as Josh.

Yet, no matter how I think about it, I just can’t believe that the group below, which is clearly divided into factions, each with their own boss, will always adhere to the rules.

Don’t forget, once Josh is gone, they’ll have to fend for their own stomachs!”

”Wait, what do you mean?” ’Universal Sky Net’ looked incredulous, ”Josh not only ensures their personal safety but also guarantees they won’t go hungry?

Even with that, no one wants to follow him!

How does he manage it?”
