My Mother-in-Law Gifted Me a Building

”Tomorrow, I’ll go buy you a better car, Dad. That way, it’ll be easier for you guys to go grocery shopping or head into town. You won’t have to take someone else’s three-wheeled cart anymore,” Chu Feng said.

”Now that you’ve got money, you’re starting to show off, aren’t you? Fine, buy a car. A domestic one for over a hundred thousand is good enough. No need for anything too expensive. This one of yours must be worth millions, right?” Chu Yuntian said.

”Yeah, more or less. But it was a gift. I didn’t spend any money on it,” Chu Feng said.

”A gift? Who would give you such an expensive car? Don’t you try to fool me,” Chu Yuntian said, unconvinced.

”It really was a gift. I did someone a huge favor, and when they saw we were buying a car, they just gave it to us. If you don’t believe me, ask Miaoke,” Chu Feng said.

”Dad, I can vouch for him. That’s really what happened,” Su Miaoke spoke up.

”That’s more like it. But even if you’re rich now, you have to know how to be frugal, understand?” Chu Yuntian lectured Chu Feng.

”In that case, Mom, Dad, you two can calculate the total area we have here tomorrow. I’ll find someone to draw up the designs and hire some professional construction teams to handle the contract. We can’t use the old ’small workshop’ style of building like the village used to,” Chu Feng said.

His requirements were: luxurious, grand, and practical.

After all, when they got married, a lot of people would come. He had to make sure everything was impressive enough for Su Miaoke’s sake.

’I can’t get a reputation for being a freeloader.’

”Alright, you can start tomorrow. Hurry up and eat before the food gets cold,” Chu Feng’s mother said.

As the family ate, Chu Yuntian asked again, ”Is this the main reason you came home this time?”

”Of course not. This was just something to do while I was here. The main reason is that I missed you all and wanted to spend some time with you. After all, it’s been so long since our family was all together like this. We only really manage to gather during the New Year, and even then, it’s only for a few days,” Chu Feng said.

”Don’t get all sentimental. Xiao Hao still has school, yet you just had to call him back,” Chu Yuntian said, shooting Chu Feng a glare.

”Dad, I’ve already graduated. I’m about to start my internship, so I came back to spend time with you guys before it starts,” Chu Hao said.

”Nonsense! If you have an internship, you should focus on it. Can’t you come visit anytime after it’s over?” Chu Yuntian was getting a little annoyed.

”Oh, Dad, what are you worried about? I’ve already made arrangements for Xiao Hao. I’m having him go be the vice president at a friend’s factory. That’s better than him working for someone else, right? My friend’s factory isn’t small; it has nearly a thousand employees,” Chu Feng said.

”Huh? Bro, I... I don’t have any experience at all. How can I be a vice president?” Chu Hao said in disbelief.

The news was simply too shocking for him.

’I just graduated, and I’m already going to be a company’s vice president? This is like a dream.’

”What’s there to ’can’ or ’can’t’ about it? Your sister-in-law managed just fine back in the day, didn’t she? If I say you can do it, you can do it. If there’s something you don’t know, someone will teach you. You’ll learn as you go,” Chu Feng said.

”Oh, right. Your sister-in-law also bought a villa for you over there to make your commute easier. We’ll get you a car later, too. The rest is up to you,” Chu Feng said.

”When we get back, you can take one of my cars. I have several in the garage that I barely drive. They’re just sitting there, so you can use one,” Su Miaoke said.

”Huh? This... Isn’t this a bit much?” Chu Hao felt that everything was happening too fast, catching him completely off guard and leaving him unable to process it all.

”We’re all family. There’s no need for such formalities,” Su Miaoke said.

Both Chu Feng and Su Miaoke shared a common belief: money was just an external object. Once spent, it was spent. This was especially true when spending it on their own people—it was money well spent, and they never felt bad about it.

Hearing all this, Chu Yuntian and Chu Feng’s mother were both gratified and shocked.

They were gratified that the family got along so well and supported each other. They were shocked that their son and daughter-in-law had truly made it, casually buying villas and spending millions.

In reality, if they knew that Su Miaoke was worth tens of billions, they would probably faint on the spot.

”But the renovations on that house will still take some time. I don’t know if they can finish it within the month. If it’s ready, you can move in. If not, you can stay at my place for a few days first,” Chu Feng said.

”Bro, thank you,” Chu Hao said.

He was truly grateful to his older brother. His brother had paid for his high school and university education and had always cared deeply for him.

Now that he had graduated, his brother was arranging all of this for him, filling his heart with warmth.

The family had a very happy meal together.

Full and satisfied, the family sat in the living room watching TV, talking and laughing. The atmosphere was wonderful.

「Early the next morning.」

Chu Feng’s parents went to get things rolling for him, calling all the villagers together for a meeting.

At first, no one was happy. They thought they would have to pay for it themselves, and many were ready to slam their fists on the table and walk out.

But when Chu Feng announced that he would cover all the expenses, everyone’s eyes lit up.

This was a complete rebuild. Most of the families in the village lived in old, dilapidated houses. Only a few had built new, small houses, and even those were only two stories tall.

Now Chu Feng was going to build them large villas. Who would hesitate?

”I’m in. Since it’s all for the good of the village, we should all agree,” someone said.

”Yeah, Xiao Feng is doing this for everyone’s benefit, helping us all move into villas. How could we not agree?” someone else chimed in.

”But Xiao Feng, I just want to ask, how long will it take to build the new houses? It’s not going to take a year or two, or even three, is it?” someone asked worriedly.

”Everyone, please rest assured. As long as you agree to the unified plan, I can guarantee that it’ll be done in one or two months at the fastest, or two to three months at the slowest. During the reconstruction, I’ll have people build a batch of temporary housing outside the village for everyone to live in,” Chu Feng said.

”And the cost...” someone asked in a low voice.

”Don’t worry about the cost. I’ll take care of it. You’ll just have to put up with some inconvenience for a little while. And when construction starts, if everyone helps out, you’ll be paid a wage. I’ll pay according to the market rate, around two or three hundred a day,” Chu Feng continued.

At this, everyone’s eyes started to gleam, and they all became incredibly excited.

’We’re getting new houses built, and we’ll get paid on top of it? Who wouldn’t want in on that? All we have to do is help out a little.’

After all, when they went to work elsewhere, they made two hundred a day at most, and that was for leaving home and working themselves to the bone.

”Good. Xiao Feng, you’re the most considerate one in the whole village. Even after becoming successful, you haven’t forgotten the folks back home,” the old village chief said with a smile, his back stooped as he tapped his long-stemmed pipe.
