My Mother-in-Law Gifted Me a Building

”Oh, isn’t that Xiao Feng? When did you get back?” an older woman carrying a shovel asked as she walked over.

”Aunt Wang, I just arrived. It’s been a while since I’ve had the spring water from back home. It’s still the sweetest,” Chu Feng said with a smile.

”That’s right. Xiao Feng, you’re all grown up and making so much money now, but you still haven’t forgotten the village’s spring water, huh?” Aunt Wang said with a laugh.

”How could I forget? When we were kids, everyone in the village came here to fetch water, bathe, and catch fish. Those were happy times,” Chu Feng said.

”Back when you were little, you were the biggest handful. Your mom and I spent a lot of time searching all over for you,” Aunt Wang said.

”Haha, Aunt Wang, you should head home. Uncle is waiting for you for dinner,” Chu Feng said.

”Alright. You should hurry and get your mom back home, too. It’s getting dark,” Aunt Wang urged.

”Will do.” After drinking the spring water, Chu Feng continued on his way.

Even though this was the countryside, deep in the mountains, the air was exceptionally good—incredibly fresh.

Taking a deep breath felt like drawing close to nature itself.

In fact, Chu Feng also discovered that if he were to practice his Cultivation here, it would be much more effective than in Beihai.

Because the mountains and rivers here had not suffered much damage, the Spiritual Power seemed a bit more abundant, although it was still so thin as to be nearly imperceptible.

If Chu Feng didn’t use Merit Points for his Cultivation, he would find it very difficult to raise his Cultivation using only this.

After all, with such thin Spiritual Power, it would take until the cows come home to make any progress in his Cultivation.

Of course, if he wanted to use Merit for his Cultivation, Chu Feng would have to punish those who were truly wicked and evil. Only by doing so could he obtain Merit Points.

That sort of thing was completely unpredictable. No one ever knew when they might run into it; it all came down to fate.

If someone prayed to the gods, asking the God of Wealth for help, Chu Feng could intervene and also gain Merit Points.

But these days, all people ever prayed for was wealth, wealth, and more wealth. Nothing else.

As a result, Chu Feng hadn’t received many Merit Points for a long time now.

”Mom!” As dusk was about to fall, Chu Feng finally reached the edge of the field where his mother was.

That single word, ”Mom,” made Chu Feng’s mother freeze for a second. She quickly stood up and looked over.

When she saw Chu Feng approaching by himself, she was taken aback.

”Xiao Feng? Is that you? Xiao Feng,” his mother asked.

”Mom, it’s me. I’m back,” Chu Feng said.

”Oh, you silly boy. When did you get back? You didn’t even tell me you were coming, or I would have made a nice meal for you all ahead of time,” his mother said, chiding him gently.

But she quickly climbed out of the paddy field, washed her hands in a nearby irrigation ditch, and said, ”Let’s go home. I’ll make you dinner.”

”Okay, but Dad is already cooking,” Chu Feng said.

”Did you come back by yourself? Where’s Miaoke? Did she come back too?” his mother asked, clearly concerned about her daughter-in-law.

”She’s back, everyone’s back. Xiao Hao is back too. We all missed you very much,” Chu Feng said with a smile.

”Good, good. As long as you’re back, that’s what matters. How long are you planning to stay this time?” his mother asked caringly.

How long their son and daughter-in-law could stay was a question of utmost concern to most mothers.

”We’ll be staying for at least a month, I think,” Chu Feng said.

The two of them walked and talked along the narrow path beside the fields.

”That’s wonderful. But will it interfere with your work?” His mother was happy to hear they’d be staying for a month, but she immediately began to worry.

”Don’t worry, Mom. We’ve arranged everything. We came back this time just to relax and get some proper rest,” Chu Feng said.

”That’s good, then. As long as it doesn’t affect anything,” his mother said with a nod.

Soon, the two of them made it home just before nightfall.

When they got home, Chu Yuntian was just bringing out the last dish.

”You’re back. Hurry and wash up for dinner,” Chu Yuntian said quickly upon seeing them.

The family ate together, enjoying the happy and harmonious atmosphere.

Suddenly, Chu Feng spoke up. ”Dad, Mom, there’s something I want to talk to you about, to get your opinion.”

”What is it? Go ahead and say it. You’re the one calling the shots for this family now, so what do you need to discuss with us? If you want to do something, just do it. As long as it’s not illegal, we’ll support you,” his mother said.

Chu Yuntian nodded in agreement. ”Mm. You’re a married man now. I don’t have any other demands for you, just hurry up and give me a grandchild to hold.”

Chu Feng looked embarrassed and glanced over at Su Miaoke.

At that moment, Su Miaoke was blushing so hard her face was scarlet all the way to her earlobes.

Under the table, she pinched Chu Feng’s thigh, making him yelp in pain.

”That... that’s up to him,” Su Miaoke said, too shy to look up as she gave Chu Feng a little push.

At this, Chu Feng quickly changed the subject. ”Dad, Mom, what I wanted to talk to you about was my plan to completely rebuild our house.”

The moment Chu Feng said this, his parents exchanged a look. Then, Chu Yuntian asked, ”So what are your plans?”

”I want to tear this all down and start over. We’ll build a small villa. Then, we can widen all the roads in the village. For anyone willing to tear down and rebuild their homes, I’ll talk to them, and we can plan it all together. We can also build some recreational facilities for the elderly in the village, like a parking lot, a basketball court, a badminton court, and things like that,” Chu Feng said.

”How much would all that cost? Wouldn’t it be several million? Besides, you need to get official approval to build a house these days.” Hearing this, Chu Yuntian frowned.

”Dad, Mom, you don’t have to worry about the money. The company Miaoke and I run makes quite a bit each year, so this is nothing. I’ll just need you to handle things on this end, Dad,” Chu Feng said.

”Why build a villa in our hometown? Don’t you already have one in Beihai?” Chu Yuntian said.

”Dad, Beihai is Beihai. This way, when we want to come back and stay, we’ll have a proper place, right? Besides, if we hold our wedding banquet at the end of the year, how are we going to manage with just this tiny space?” Chu Feng said.

”Alright, we’ll do what you say. Let’s build. If there are any villagers who are hard to persuade, we’ll talk to them. We’ll try to get everyone to rebuild. They should all agree.” His mother made the final decision on the spot.

Upon hearing Chu Feng’s words, his mother decided immediately, without a second thought.

After all, she wanted to be able to see her son every year. What if Chu Feng decided he didn’t want to come back from Beihai? Then she might only see him a few times a year, or maybe even only once every few years.

”Fine. Tomorrow, I’ll go find some people and pull some strings to get the approvals and paperwork sorted out. It’ll probably cost a bit of money,” Chu Yuntian said.

”That’s fine. For our family right now, money is not an issue. Any problem that can be solved with money is not a problem at all,” Chu Feng said.
