The Incubus System

Chapter 742: Obsession And Affection

The Incubus System Chapter 732. Obsession And Affection

”Iʼm glad you can understand that,” I said in relief. ”But I promise you, Iʼll be careful. You donʼt have to worry about me.”

She responded with a nod. It was clear that she wanted to protect me from whatever dangers lurked in the shadows. I appreciated her concern, even though it could be suffocating at times.

”Anyway,” she continued, shifting the topic slightly, ”do you have any plans tomorrow?”

My mind raced as I tried to come up with a suitable response. I couldnʼt reveal my plans with Celia and Tiffany to Ruby.

I let out a nonchalant sigh and replied, ”Nah, I think Iʼll just spend my holidays at home. Need some time to unwind and recharge.” But then, I rolled my eyes to the side. ”Well, thatʼs unless the police decide to call me again. You know. My mom,” I added with a hint of bitterness.

”Ah, I see...” Rubyʼs voice had a strange flatness. Her smile, although sweet, held a hint of something else. It was the kind of smile that set off alarm bells in my mind, even without relying on my Observation skill. I could sense that she had a hidden agenda, and it made me slightly uneasy.

”Well, if thatʼs the case, I wonʼt bother you anymore,” she said, rising from her seat. Her smile remained plastered on her face, but it seemed forced, almost unnatural.

”I will excuse myself then,” she said as she turned and walked to the exit.

Without thinking much, I quickly got up from my seat and hurriedly walked toward Ruby. My pets instantly scattered in different directions, their fluffy bodies brushing against my legs as they scurried away.

But then, her steps halted at the entrance, and she turned to face me.

”Ethan,” she called out my name. I could sense a bittersweet undertone in her voice. It was as if she was about to reveal something significant, something that had been weighing on her heart for a long time.

I stopped in my tracks. ”Yes?” I replied.

Her gaze bore into mine, searching for a something, as if she wanted to ensure that her words reached my core. Her face took on a melancholic expression. ”Please remember... I love you,” she uttered. ”I will always be on your side, no matter what. I know sometimes my actions may seem a little crazy, and you may not fully understand my obsession with you, but I love you for who you are. Iʼve always wished I could be with you, Ethan,” she confessed.

I absorbed her heartfelt declaration. There was a part of me that was touched by her devotion, her love. Despite the quirks and eccentricities that came along with it, there was no denying of her feelings.

”I appreciate it. Really,” I responded, my voice softening even further. I wanted her to know that her love was not in vain and that her affection was acknowledged and valued. It wasnʼt easy for someone to open up their heart.

She nodded silently and began to turn away, but before she could take another step, I found myself compelled to ask her a question.

”Ruby, I have a question,” I blurted out. I watched as she turned back towards me.

”If, and this is a big ʼifʼ, someday I were to accept your feelings, would you be willing to share me with others?” I asked. It was a delicate topic, one that needed to be addressed if we were to truly consider a future together. I wanted to know if she could navigate the complexities of our relationship.

Her expression softened, and I could see the wheels turning in her mind. I could sense her internal struggle.

”I... I donʼt know,” she admitted, her voice laced with uncertainty. ”I have thought about it. Iʼve tried to imagine what it would be like, but I canʼt make a choice. But one thing is certain,” she said, her eyes never leaving mine. With a gentle touch, she caressed my cheek, her hand warm against my skin. ”I am a selfish woman. I want to have you all to myself. Itʼs my obsession, and letting go of that instantly is impossible,” she confessed, her voice filled with raw honesty.

Her confession left me feeling torn. On one hand, her wish for exclusivity fit with what society expects in a normal relationship. But given my situation as an incubus with so many complicated connections, it just didnʼt seem possible to give her what she wanted. Plus, her possessiveness—though it came from love—could easily turn toxic and suffocating. I wasnʼt sure I could handle that kind of intensity, even if I wasnʼt an incubus.

Before I could respond, Ruby released her hand from my cheek and a bittersweet smile graced her lips. At that moment, she appeared more human and vulnerable than the crazy banshee who had pursued me the last time. It was as if she had shed her intense persona, revealing a softer side.
