Chapter 740: You Owe Me A Coffee

The Incubus System Chapter 730. You Owe Me A Coffee

I took a deep breath. ”This is so annoying…” I grumbled.

I got up and shuffled down the hallway, my steps heavy and sluggish, like a reluctant participant in a never-ending marathon. My eyes were half-open, my hair a wild tangle of knots, and my clothes wrinkled and disheveled. I wouldnʼt bother with my appearance at the moment; after all, it was just Ruby who was waiting downstairs. If my sleep-deprived state disgusted her, then so be it. Maybe a little bit of repulsion would keep her obsession with me in check.

Yawns escaped from my lips uncontrollably, like a never-ending chorus of exhaustion. My mind felt foggy as if it hadnʼt fully booted up yet. It was like trying to navigate the world with a computer that was still running on its startup sequence.

Celia trailed behind me.

As I descended the stairs, a realization struck me. My steps came to an abrupt halt, and a frown formed on my forehead as my groggy brain finally made the connection.

”Wait a minute... I used my Demonʼs Clothes. That means I shouldnʼt have any dirty laundry,” I muttered to myself, the gears in my mind slowly turning.

I turned to Celia, who stood behind me with an innocent smile plastered on her face.

”Itʼs too late now. Just go and meet her,” she replied, her innocence only amplifying my sense of betrayal.

”I canʼt believe you tricked me,” I grumbled.

With a resigned sigh, I turned my attention back to the front and continued my descent. ”Fine, but you owe me a coffee,” I declared, my voice laced with a hint of demand. Maybe a strong cup of caffeine could jolt my drowsiness away.

Once I made my way down the stairs, my bleary eyes immediately landed on Ruby, who was seated comfortably on the sofa, a sweet smile adorning her face. She was dressed in casual attire, looking perfectly put together while I resembled a disheveled mess. My pets and Foxy were gathered in the corner of the room, their expressions filled with evident displeasure. It was clear that they held some reservations towards Ruby.

”Why are you looking for me?” I grumbled, my voice carrying the weariness of a sleep-deprived zombie who had just clawed his way out of the grave. Without wasting any time, I flopped down onto a nearby single couch, my gaze fixed upon her.

Almost instinctively, my protective pets moved closer to me, their furry bodies finding their rightful places on my lap, shoulder, and at my feet. It was an unspoken warning, a declaration that Ruby should keep her distance from me.

Rubyʼs gaze shifted to my pets, a clear expression of displeasure etched across her face. She gave them a piercing glare as if attempting to assert her dominance and claim her rightful spot on the sofa. However, my furry companions remained unfazed, some pretending to be asleep while others shamelessly sought my attention, rubbing their heads against my body in a spoiled fashion. Their mischievous eyes were fixed on Ruby, their smug expressions implying that they had no intention of yielding.

Amidst the unspoken tension between them, I chose to ignore the brewing conflict. It was still early in the morning, and I was far too lethargic to play referee in this pointless power struggle.

Turning my gaze back to Ruby, who still hadnʼt provided an answer, I released an exasperated sigh. ”If youʼre not going to answer me, Iʼll just go back to sleep,” I grumbled.

In a panic, Ruby hastily interjected. ”No, wait! I really need to talk to you,” she pleaded.

Curiosity piqued, I shifted in my seat, my laziness momentarily pushed aside. ”About what?” I inquired, my tone reflecting my lackadaisical demeanor.

”You know, I think you have to be careful with Mrs. Clea,” Ruby said, her voice now filled with a seriousness. Her gaze locked onto mine, as if trying to emphasize the importance of her words.

I arched an eyebrow, curiosity getting the better of me. ”Why?” I asked. Perhaps Ruby had stumbled upon something significant and disagreed with Mrs. Cleaʼs intentions.

Ruby took a moment to gather her thoughts, her eyes scanning the room before settling back on me. ”She might ask you to do something you donʼt want to do,” she warned.

I leaned back against the couch, considering her words. ”And what exactly would that be? Is that good or bad?” I tried to cut this conversation short.𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝐰𝚎𝕓𝐧𝚘𝘃𝗲𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝕞

A flicker of uncertainty danced across Rubyʼs features. Eventually, she shook her head slowly from side to side, her disbelief evident. ”Iʼm not sure if itʼs good or bad,” she admitted.

”So itʼs a neutral act?” I assumed.

Rubyʼs expression grew somber, and she pressed her lips together in contemplation. ”I canʼt say itʼs neutral,” she clarified, her voice tinged with a hint of caution. ”Itʼs more... complicated than that. There are risks involved, Ethan. Itʼs dangerous to be exact,” she warned.

”Is she intending to kill me?” I blurted out nonchalantly.

Rubyʼs eyes widened, and she shook her head vigorously. ”No,” she replied with a hint of urgency.

” Is she intending to hurt me?” I asked once more, my voice laced with a mix of skepticism and nonchalance. As the words left my lips, I reclined further into the sofa.

Ruby paused for a moment, her brows furrowing as she considered her response. With a gentle shake of her head, she dismissed the notion. ”No,” she replied, her tone firm yet reassuring. ”She doesnʼt have any intention of harming you.”

I shifted on the sofa, finding a more comfortable position, looking at Ruby. ”Then whatʼs the problem?” I asked.
