I Am Diagnosed as a Medical Titan

Chapter 136: Chapter 121: My Chat Group is Full of Big Shots

[Jiang He’s Daily Routine—Information, Declassified]

6:00 AM. Wake up on the dot and send Teacher Shen a ”good morning” message.

Check for any missed messages, see if she’s updated any of her social media statuses, and finally, delete his visitor history... A seamless routine.

6:30–9:00 AM.

After washing up, it was time for his ironclad routine: literature review.

’Having a computer is so convenient. Even though the crappy campus network isn’t very stable, it’s good enough for looking up research papers.’

Today’s topic was early predictive markers for severe acute pancreatitis.

He focused on two core targets: miRNA-21 and miRNA-155.

To enable the project team to produce world-shaking preliminary results within a month, he had to find a research plan that was both contemporary and feasible.

Read, download, categorize, and take notes on the literature.

Around this time, his roommates would usually start waking up. Those with class went to class, those who write went to write, and those who work out went to work out.

He’d heard from Li Zijian.

Apparently, he’d actually found a gym near the school that was full of rich wives. He’d sent the specific address to their group chat.

9:00–10:30 AM. Formulating the plan.

To be precise, he was writing the clinical trial design protocol for the SAP sub-project.

The diagnostic methods in ’08 were not as diverse as they would be in the future, and many high-end reagent kits were simply unavailable in the country.

Therefore, he had to filter out any idealized procedures that were currently impossible to implement.

The specific time points for sample collection, the exclusion criteria, the centrifuge speed settings, the ratio of Trizol reagent to be added—every single parameter had to be determined by him personally.

The plan had to be practical and actionable.

10:30–11:30 AM. Answering questions and external correspondence.

He logged into Dingxiang Garden.

As expected, the discussion on severe cases that Zhiyu had posted last night had sparked huge controversy.

In the critical care section, the thread had already grown to over two hundred replies.

Several accounts, verified as attending physicians from the ICUs of Grade A Tertiary hospitals, were fiercely refuting him in the comments. They listed a long string of dangers associated with stress-induced hyperglycemia, and one person even questioned if the original poster was joking with the lives of critically ill patients.

Jiang He remained completely unfazed.

The subversion of established knowledge was always painful, and he was well aware of the limitations of the critical care field in ’08.

However, seeing that the discussion was starting to go off-track, he decided to step in and post a reply:

”The line between physiological compensation and pathological damage lies in the timing of intervention. I urge you all to review the incidence of hypoglycemia (≤2.2 mmol/L) and the final outcomes of patients who have undergone strict glucose control in your departments over the last six months. The real data in the medical records will provide the answer.”

After replying, he checked his private messages.

In his private messages, there was one from Wang Xiaoqing.

”Elder Zhi, I apologize for the intrusion, but the hypothesis you put forward on the forums a few days ago regarding gut microbiota intervention for treating HE was a stroke of genius, truly eye-opening! Over the past two days, several professors from Huaxi have already begun preparing related animal experiments for verification.”

”However, forum discussions inevitably have a time lag, and everyone has been endlessly debating the assumptions about several key targets. To facilitate the discussion, we’ve created a private QQ group for communication.”

”Would Elder Zhi perhaps be willing to grace us with your presence? Even if you only glance at it occasionally and point out any deviations in our general direction, it would be a great blessing for the domestic medical community! The group number is below, and we’ll approve your request at any time. If you don’t normally use this kind of messaging software, this junior would never dare to impose.”

Staring at the message, Jiang He fell into deep thought.

’I hadn’t even considered this possibility...’

He re-examined his core objective: to advance the progress of medicine in the country.

Therefore, the benefits of joining the group were certainly substantial. It would help them achieve success faster, which in turn would boost Zhiyu’s status on the forums.

Besides, in ’08, there was no WeChat, only QQ.

That QQ thing inherently provides a layer of disguise... You never know how many titans are hiding among the people you’re chatting with in a group.

’So, as long as I’m a man of few words and keep my replies terse...’

’My identity probably won’t be exposed.’

As for... whether someone might use special means to trace his IP address and uncover his identity? Jiang He wasn’t too worried about that either.

’If some big shot really does track me down, I’ll just come clean.’

—’I’m done pretending! I’m laying my cards on the table! I am Zhiyu, so what?’

Using an alias was, in essence, just a way to save himself the trouble of explaining things and to cultivate an air of mystery. It didn’t mean he was doing anything shady.

After some consideration, Jiang He decided to join the group.

But if he was going to do it, he had to play the part properly.

He created an alt account and changed the nickname: Zhiyu.

Profile picture—the Welcoming Pine of Huangshan!

He left the signature field completely blank, going for an ”ultimate simplicity” vibe.

He applied to join the group chat with the verification message: ”Zhiyu.”

Then he switched back to his main account and, as Jiang He, answered Wang Xiaoqing’s questions about the paper on ”step-up minimally invasive therapy.”

Tsk.

’Why does it feel like I’m always the one teaching Wang Xiaoqing?’

’This Wang Xiaoqing, why is she so eager to learn!’

「11:30 AM」

Lunchtime.

He turned his head, and sure enough...

...lunch had automatically appeared on his desk.

Jiang He wasn’t a man-child, but he just couldn’t win against his roommates, who insisted on bringing him food.

Especially Li Zijian. He claimed that bringing food was also a good deed, and he was now aiming to do two good deeds a day.

Because... doing one good deed a day earns you major karma, but doing two a day... that earns you major-major karma.

「12:15 PM」

After lunch, he reported his morning’s work to his girlfriend.

”I looked through a dozen or so English papers this morning and finalized the first draft of the clinical plan for early SAP prediction...”

Shen Yu: ”(Tapping emoji) You read so many papers, did you get up and stretch at all? Does your leg still hurt?”

”Hehe, it doesn’t hurt. What about you? Is your cold any better? Have you been eating properly?”

Shen Yu: ”Hehe, yes, yes! Juanzi took me out for something delicious! You can ask her if you don’t believe me!”
