I Am Diagnosed as a Medical Titan

Chapter 129: Chapter 116: Hero 3

No words were needed. They understood what he had been through last night, the weight of snatching someone from the jaws of death.

Jiang He, for his part, was relatively calm.

Chen Hao, on the other hand, was a bit stunned.

He only realized a moment later that the applause was for Jiang He—and for him, too.

He immediately straightened his back, a warmth spreading to his eyes.

’My blood is boiling with excitement...’

Chen Hao felt like every step he took was a step on the pinnacle of his life.

Not only was he not tired anymore, he felt like he could save ten more pneumothorax patients!

The feeling of being recognized by his classmates... it was just too damn good.

The best part was, Chen Hao felt he deserved this recognition!

’I’m going to be bragging about this for a year! A whole year!’

The autumn wind swept past as the applause thundered on.

The two of them made their way through the crowd.

Every so often, they would hear soft words of encouragement.

”Well done, Dr. Jiang.”

”You’ve worked hard, senior.”

”You’re amazing, man.”

The remarks were all brief.

And amidst the applause, they were hard to hear clearly.

Jiang He simply nodded occasionally in response.

It wasn’t that he was being cold or aloof; he was just exhausted. All he wanted now was to go back to his dorm, collapse, and sleep like the dead.

By the time they reached the men’s dormitory, the applause had finally faded.

They climbed up to the fourth floor, and Chen Hao helped push open the door to their room.

The moment the door opened, they were met with a cloud of smoke.

Wang Bo and Li Zijian were clattering away on their keyboards.

Both had dark circles under their eyes; they had clearly been up all night as well.

Hearing the door open, they both whipped their heads around.

”Old Jiang! Haozi!!”

Wang Bo shoved his keyboard aside, shot up from his chair, and rushed to the door in a few quick strides.

Li Zijian was even faster. He moved to support Jiang He’s arm. ”Is your foot okay?”

”It’s nothing major. Torn ligament. I’ll be in a cast for two weeks.” Jiang He let Li Zijian guide him back to his bunk.

Wang Bo immediately snatched the crutch from Jiang He’s hand and propped it in the corner. He then grabbed a chair and wiped it down vigorously with his sleeve.

”Sit, sit, sit! Old Jiang, you sit here! Haozi, give me your stuff and sit on my bed!”

Li Zijian turned, grabbed a thermos, poured two cups of hot water, and handed them to the pair.

”The temperature is perfect. Have a drink,” Li Zijian said.

Jiang He took the cup and sipped the warm water. His stomach finally began to settle.

He looked up at them. ”You two didn’t sleep all night?”

”Sleep? My ass!” Wang Bo pulled up a chair and sat across from them. ”We’ve been following the whole thing. The school’s online forum blew up after midnight, and then someone posted photos from the emergency room.”

Li Zijian nodded, adding, ”The class QQ group chat was going all night, too. Everyone was blowing up the chat. When they heard you two went to the scene to help, a bunch of people got out of bed in the middle of the night just to wait for updates.”

Chen Hao, holding his cup, said softly, ”Everyone was that worried about us?”

”Of course they were! After such a huge accident last night, we’re all medical students, but we could only sit here in the dorm and worry. You two were the only ones who charged into the fray. You’re so damn cool! If we could have, who wouldn’t have wanted to be right there with you?”

Li Zijian and Wang Bo couldn’t stop expressing their admiration.

Jiang He rubbed the bridge of his nose as waves of sleepiness washed over him.

After he was done gushing, Wang Bo finally said, ”Old Jiang, Haozi, I’ve made up my mind. I’m going to throw everything I have into writing web novels. When I become a famous author and make a fortune, I’ll invest in your research projects. I want to contribute too!”

Li Zijian chimed in, ”Research is way too expensive. How much can you really make just from writing novels? I had a revelation last night, too.”

All eyes turned to him.

”Love? Even a dog wouldn’t want any part of it.”

Li Zijian continued:

”I’m not a bad-looking guy. I’ll go get a membership at a high-end gym downtown and find myself a rich sugar mama. I’ll get to skip thirty years of hard work and achieve financial freedom directly. When that time comes, Wang Bo will be making money writing his novels, I’ll be... working hard to make money, and our dorm will be complete, with both brains and brawn! Perfect!”

Jiang He was at a loss for words.

’This topic is way beyond my pay grade.’ He had no idea how to respond.

Just then, there was a knock on the dorm room door.

Before anyone could say anything, the door was pushed open.

Zhou Yang, Li Wei, Liu Qiang, and a few other guys from the neighboring dorm filed in.

The room was instantly packed to the brim.

”Old Jiang, is your foot okay?”

”Haozi, I heard you went to the hospital to help last night too? Badass!”

”You’ve both worked so hard. You’re true heroes!”

Amidst the chorus of praise,

Zhou Yang suddenly cut in:

”No, no, that’s enough, everyone. Old Jiang and Haozi have been up all night. The thing they need most right now is sleep. Everyone out, let’s all clear out and let Old Jiang get some proper rest!”

”Right, right, let them sleep.”

”Get some rest, Old Jiang. Just give a shout in the group chat if you need anything.”

The crowd dispersed as quickly as it had gathered.

In less than a minute, the room was quiet once more.

Before leaving, Zhou Yang thoughtfully pulled the door shut behind him.

”I’m going to take a shower.”

Jiang He pushed himself up from the edge of the bed.

He grabbed a change of clothes and hopped on one leg into the bathroom.

Showering was a difficult affair.

He couldn’t get his right foot wet, so he had to wipe himself down bit by bit with a towel dipped in warm water.

Chen Hao asked if he wanted help scrubbing his back.

Jiang He told him to get lost.

Twenty minutes later, he was back in bed.

He pulled the blanket over himself and took out his phone.

He sent a message to his girlfriend: [Teacher Shen, I’m back at the dorm. About to get some rest.]

Shen Yu replied almost instantly: [Dr. Jiang, it must be tiring work, saving the world!]

Jiang He: [Hehe, what are you up to? Want to call?]

After a moment,

Shen Yu finally replied: [Let’s not call right now, I’m about to have class. Dr. Jiang, go to sleep! Good night! Oh wait, good morning!]

Jiang He didn’t think much of it and replied: [Okay, you get some rest too~]

He turned off his phone and sank into a deep sleep.

What he didn’t know was that,

two thousand kilometers away, Shen Yu wasn’t in a classroom at all.

She had asked Juanzi to call in sick for her for half a month and was currently sitting on a slow, early-morning train headed for her hometown.

Shen Yu leaned against the train window, a complicated look in her eyes.

Ever since seeing the photo of Jiang He last night, her heart hadn’t been at peace.

’My heart aches... it aches so much for him...’

Looking at the last message from Jiang He on her screen,

the girl gently pressed the phone to her chest, and the tears she’d been holding back finally escaped, trickling down her cheeks.

She sniffled and looked out at the scenery rushing backward.

She thought about that idiot who had desperately saved lives in the downpour, not even caring that he’d injured his own foot.

Shen Yu buried her face in her scarf.

’You risk your life to take care of everyone else, but who is there to take care of you?’

A thousand words, a million thoughts... in the end, they all distilled into a single phrase in Shen Yu’s heart.

’—I guess I’ll have to be the one, you idiot.’
