I Am Diagnosed as a Medical Titan

Chapter 112: Chapter 111: My Student

Night fell.

On the Southern Medical Tea House forum, discussions about Jiang He were still raging.

Everyone was reeling from the treatise that had appeared out of nowhere.

The aftershocks hadn’t subsided; in fact, they were growing stronger.

”Did you guys hear? About the treatise in the Chinese Journal of Surgery today!”

”Duh, of course! Everyone’s talking about it! Jiang He, the third-year!”

”Holy shit, for real? A third-year published a treatise in the Chinese Journal of Surgery? He must be using a cheat code!”

”I heard he even used follow-up data from Peking Union. What kind of insane connections does he have? My God!”

”I don’t know about his connections, but I do know Professor Sun Changming tried to poach him right at the preliminary review meeting, and Professor Yang Xu shut him down hard.”

”Damn, that’s badass... So what does that make the review article Xu Chen was bragging about everywhere?”

”It’s jack shit! Compared to a treatise, a review isn’t even worthy of carrying its shoes! Xu Chen must be so embarrassed his face is swollen!”

This incident, on top of his recent competition victory, caused Jiang He’s fame to skyrocket throughout Southern Medical University.

Even those who normally paid no attention to academic matters had more or less heard of the name Jiang He.

Meanwhile, ambitious individuals were trying every trick in the book to connect with Jiang He, hoping to get in his good graces.

The impact of this event was clearly not limited to the university. It was just that the medical community’s reaction would be slower; the bullet needed a little more time to fly.

...

RUMBLE—

A dull clap of thunder rolled through the clouds above.

The weather in Southern China was always like this. One second it could be bright and sunny, the next a torrential downpour.

Jiang He quickened his pace slightly.

A faint, throbbing ache emanated from his right ankle, but it was still within a tolerable range.

The wind began to pick up, making the leaves of the plane trees lining the campus’s main road rustle loudly.

Feeling the cool wind on his face, Jiang He recalled the scene from dinner at Cafeteria No. 2 earlier.

Wang Xiaoqing asked the questions.

He provided the answers.

After a few rounds of back-and-forth, Professor Wang had turned into a little fangirl who could only nod and agree.

”Yes! Exactly, exactly!”

”Continuous irrigation! My goodness! What a great idea! It completely breaks through the limitations of single-catheter drainage!”

”Uh-huh, uh-huh, go on!”

”This would elevate the indications and efficiency of the entire PCD procedure to a whole new level...”

Wang Xiaoqing was completely without airs, humbly seeking his guidance and agreeing repeatedly.

Yang Xu, on the other hand, sat to the side, acting aloof and not saying much.

After they finished exchanging revision suggestions, Wang Xiaoqing asked, ”By the way, Jiang He, Zhiyu posted again. This time he threw out a very forward-thinking idea. Have you seen it?”

”I saw it. Why?”

”Well, I was just discussing it this morning in the teaching and research office with a few department heads from Gastroenterology. We all think that if this path were truly pursued, it could change the clinical guidelines entirely. So... do you know anything about it?”

Jiang He answered honestly, ”My current focus is on the pancreas and early screening. I’m not that familiar with the underlying mechanisms of hepatic encephalopathy.”

Hearing this, Wang Xiaoqing was a little disappointed.

”I see.” She sighed. ”What a shame. I really wish I could meet him in person, even if it’s just to discuss a few cases.”

Snapping out of her thoughts, Wang Xiaoqing added, ”Oh, right, Jiang He, the competition is coming up soon. The university has put together a few sets of internal practice exams covering a wide range of rare anatomical variations and complication management. Do you want a set? I can grab one for you when I get back to my office...”

Before she could finish, Wang Xiaoqing waved her hand, refuting her own suggestion.

”No, no, forget I said anything. Why would you possibly need something like that? For a competition at this level, you’ll probably just walk through it. You’re on a whole other level—you’ll crush it. Doing practice exams would be a complete waste of your time.”

Yang Xu, who had been silent the whole time, finally couldn’t help but laugh.

”Xiaoqing, you’re praising my student a bit too much. But then again, this competition really is no pressure for him. I’m just hoping it ends quickly so my student can start his internship at Affiliated Hospital No. 1. I’ve got a pile of difficult cases over there waiting for my student to discuss with me.”

In that single statement, Yang Xu had managed to emphasize ”my student” three times.

’Is he really a genius?’

”...”

A drop of rain hit the back of his neck, pulling Jiang He back to reality.

It was raining.

He didn’t delay any longer and hurried back to the dormitory building.

He turned on his computer. There was a new email.

It was from Xu Juan.

Xu Juan: [That guy Chen Hao was nagging me to death about this. My dad happened to be at the hospital today, so I asked him to pull some strings with the lab to get the key results rushed. See for yourself. You’re making a big deal out of nothing.]

Jiang He replied with a ”thank you” and then began to go through the reports one by one.

There were seven lab slips and imaging reports in total.

The first: Tumor Markers.
