I Am Diagnosed as a Medical Titan

Chapter 45: Chapter 45: I Predicted Your Prediction

The emergency room lobby was bustling with people.

Xu Juan had always refused checkups in her past life. In this one, her fate was finally back on the right track.

Jiang He also felt a sense of relief.

Shen Yu stood beside him, clutching the straps of her canvas bag. Her body was tilted slightly to one side, as she couldn’t put weight on her ankle.

”Dr. Jiang,” Shen Yu asked with concern. ”Juanzi... she’s going to be okay, right?”

Jiang He reassured her, ”She’ll be fine. We caught it early, so her kidneys only have minor damage. It can be controlled and cured with hormone therapy.”

Hearing this, Shen Yu let out a long sigh of relief and nodded repeatedly. ”That’s good, that’s good... We really have you to thank for today. If you hadn’t made that bet with her, she never would’ve come to the hospital.”

Jiang He glanced at the time. ”Let’s go. It’s been a hectic day. We should find a place to get something to eat.”

Shen Yu glanced toward the elevators and hesitated. ”But Juanzi...”

”She’s fine. She’s finished the admission procedures and just needs to rest. Besides, her dad is up there watching over her. We’d just be in the way.”

Shen Yu thought for a moment and decided he had a point. ”Yes, that’s true.”

The two of them left through the main gate of Peking Union Medical College Hospital, found a food stall in a nearby alley, and ordered a bowl of porridge for her.

Lu Xiaolin arrived soon after.

”Junior Brother! You were incredible! You have no idea what a scene it was in the lab this afternoon when the results came out. The looks on those directors’ faces when they saw the IgG4 levels were absolutely priceless!”

Lu Xiaolin’s gaze shifted, and he noticed an unreasonably beautiful girl sitting across from them.

He froze for a second, then asked hesitantly, ”And this is...?”

Jiang He made the introduction. ”This is Shen Yu from Normal University, Teacher Shen. She’s a friend of mine.”

Then, he gestured to Lu Xiaolin. ”This is Lu Xiaolin, my senior brother from university.”

Shen Yu nodded politely. ”It’s nice to meet you, Senior Brother Lu.”

”Hello, hello! Nice to meet you, Teacher Shen,” Lu Xiaolin quickly replied.

After the greetings, it all became crystal clear to Lu Xiaolin.

’A friend? Who’s this beautiful? This is obviously the girl Jiang He is chasing!’

’In that case,’ Lu Xiaolin thought, ’as his senior brother, I absolutely have to step up and hype up my junior brother right now.’

’Time to play wingman. It’s gotta be done.’

Lu Xiaolin looked at Shen Yu and said, ”Teacher Shen, you probably don’t know how amazing Jiang He was today!”

Shen Yu asked curiously, ”How amazing?”

Lu Xiaolin tried to explain in layman’s terms:

”The top directors and even the vice president of Peking Union Medical College Hospital were all in a consultation together. After all the experts reviewed the scans, they all thought it was pancreatic cancer. They had even decided on the treatment plan—a Whipple procedure. That’s the biggest surgery in general surgery. Not only do you get practically flayed on the operating table, but the post-op complications are absolute torture.”

”And what happened? My junior brother, in front of a room full of experts, stood up and said their diagnosis was wrong. He said it wasn’t cancer at all, but a rare autoimmune inflammation.”

”This afternoon, the rush lab results came out, and he was completely right! No surgery needed at all. Just take some cheap hormone pills for two weeks, and the mass will disappear on its own! With a single sentence, he dragged a person back from the gates of hell, saving them from the surgeon’s knife!”

Shen Yu sat there, listening, completely stunned.

She turned her head and looked at Jiang He sitting beside her.

Two things had happened today.

First, he had accurately diagnosed Juanzi’s deeply hidden kidney disease.

Second, in the best hospital in the country, he had overturned the misdiagnosis of a group of top experts, saving someone from dire straits.

”You’re amazing... Dr. Jiang,” Shen Yu said softly.

She was full of admiration, but a flicker of insecurity also crossed her mind.

’He’s so incredible, and I’m so ordinary... Does that mean...?’

From her tone, Jiang He keenly detected her low spirits.

The tacit understanding built up over countless days and nights in their previous life allowed him to see right through Shen Yu in an instant.

’My silly girl. She thinks the gap between us is too wide and is starting to doubt herself.’

Jiang He sighed. ”What good is being ’amazing’? I’m still clueless about so many things.”

Shen Yu raised her head in confusion. ”Huh?”

Jiang He said, ”I looked it up online last night, and hotel water dispensers really are that dirty. If Teacher Shen hadn’t warned me, I have no idea what I would’ve been drinking!”

Shen Yu remembered the scene: Jiang He, holding a glass, about to drink the water, only for her to lecture him until he obediently put the cup down like a guilty little boy.

Pfft—

She couldn’t hold it in and burst out laughing.

Jiang He picked up his teacup and gently clinked it against hers. ”So from now on, for all of life’s little details, I’ll be counting on Teacher Shen to criticize and guide me.”

Amused, her eyes crinkling into crescents, Shen Yu said, ”So you’re a specialist, huh?”

Jiang He replied, ”That’s why I’m hoping Teacher Shen will be kind enough to tutor me.”

Shen Yu giggled. ”Hmm, I’ll think about it~”

Lu Xiaolin felt like he’d had his fill.

’I just sat down and had one sip of porridge, so why do I feel so full already?’

’This junior brother of mine... he’s a master at healing and saving people, but how does he have so many moves for charming girls, too?’

’And to think I wanted to play wingman. He clearly doesn’t need my help at all!’

Just then, Shen Yu suddenly recalled what Uncle Xu had said. She frowned. ”Wait a minute, that’s not right. How can the hospital just take all your credit?”

Lu Xiaolin asked, ”Take what credit?”

Shen Yu said, ”Just now at the hospital, Uncle Xu told us that when the hospital staff spoke to the patient’s family, they took all the credit for themselves. They didn’t mention Dr. Jiang’s name at all! They’re hogging all the glory!”

The angrier she got as she spoke, the tighter her hands clenched into fists. ”That’s just bullying! How can you let them get away with it?”

Lu Xiaolin, however, just laughed after hearing her out.

He waved his hand, signaling for Shen Yu to relax. ”Teacher Shen, don’t worry. This is another one of my junior brother’s strengths.”

Shen Yu was confused. ”What do you mean?”

Lu Xiaolin explained with admiration, ”When my junior brother asked me to do that one thing, I thought it was strange. ’What’s the point of this?’ I wondered. But looking back now, he really had incredible foresight.”

”Do... what thing?” Shen Yu asked.

Lu Xiaolin said, ”He made a prediction.”

”My junior brother had me tell the coal baron’s family that a doctor named Jiang He strongly advised them to verify the test markers before the Whipple surgery. If the markers were abnormally high, they absolutely should not proceed with the operation.”

”The family members aren’t fools; they went to look into it right away.”

”On top of that, my junior brother had me tell the family about the follow-up treatment plan.”

”So, the vice president wants to steal the credit? Do you think he can? The family knows exactly what happened. At this point, do you think they’ll go looking for that vice president with his bureaucratic platitudes, or will they come looking for the person who actually pointed out the real cause of the illness?”

After hearing this, Shen Yu’s mouth fell open in surprise.

She looked at Jiang He again.

’So he had planned for this all along!’

Lu Xiaolin also looked at Jiang He with a complex expression and sighed with genuine feeling. ”Seriously, Junior Brother, aren’t you just a junior in college? Why does it feel like you’ve already been through the wringer in the real world a million times? With that kind of strategic mind, I’m starting to suspect you’re secretly a thirty-something in disguise.”

Jiang He picked up the teacup from the table and took a sip.

’The real school of hard knocks is far more brutal than this.’

’This is just an instinctive defense mechanism I picked up from living a second life.’

Just then, Lu Xiaolin seemed to see someone across the street.

He put down his cup, stood up, and waved toward the street corner. ”Over here!”

Shen Yu followed Lu Xiaolin’s gaze and turned around.

She saw a black Mercedes sedan parked at the street corner.

The car door opened, and a woman in her fifties was walking quickly toward them.

The woman was impeccably dressed, but her expression was urgent.

”Who’s that?” Shen Yu asked in a low voice.

Lu Xiaolin leaned in and said to Shen Yu.

”The big boss.”
