I Am Diagnosed as a Medical Titan

Chapter 35: Chapter 35: The Unexpected Exchange Student Opportunity

Shen Yu was a little panicked.

Jiang He said, ”Don’t panic. I’m a good guy.”

Shen Yu asked, ”Then why did we have to come to a hotel?”

Jiang He replied, ”To take care of your injury.”

As he spoke, he took out a pair of disposable slippers and placed them on the carpet.

Shen Yu had clearly misunderstood. ”Jiang He,” she said, ”I really have to be back in my dorm tonight.”

Jiang He looked at her guarded expression and found it both familiar and amusing.

But he controlled his expression and nodded. ”Of course. It’s just that your ankle is so swollen, you definitely won’t be able to get your canvas shoes back on. Once the ice has done its job, you can wear these slippers back.”

Hearing his logical explanation, Shen Yu finally understood.

’So I misunderstood.’

She said, ”Oh, oh... So that’s what this is about.”

She felt a little embarrassed after saying it.

’What kind of nonsense was I thinking?’

’He was kind enough to carry me all over the place, and he even paid for a room just to ice my ankle, but I actually thought he was some creep with bad intentions!’

’I’m horrible!’

Shen Yu fiddled with the corner of the blanket and said, ”I’m sorry... I just woke up and my head’s a little fuzzy. I thought... Anyway, Dr. Jiang, thank you so much for today. If it weren’t for you, I don’t know what I would have done.”

In truth, Jiang He didn’t want to hear her polite thank-yous at all.

’I want to pinch her cheek, tousle her hair, and tell her, ”Why are you being so polite with me?”’

But his rational mind was in control, so he couldn’t cross that line.

So, Jiang He could only reply politely, ”It’s nothing. It happened right in front of me, so of course I couldn’t just ignore it. Anyone else would have done the same.”

A brief silence fell between them.

Just then, the water finished boiling.

Jiang He walked over and poured a glass of hot water.

He picked up the glass, blew on the steam, and was about to bring it to his lips.

”Hey, wait,” Shen Yu suddenly called out, stopping him.

Jiang He asked, ”What’s wrong?”

”That electric kettle, did you wash it before using it?” Shen Yu asked.

Jiang He answered truthfully, ”No, I just filled it with water and boiled it.”

”Silly! How can you use the kettle in a budget hotel like this without washing it first? It’s so unsanitary! Haven’t you read the horror stories online about how some disgusting guests boil their socks and underwear in them? It’s filthy. Don’t drink that.”

Jiang He replied, ”Huh? Oh.”

He obediently put the glass back on the tray.

Shen Yu nodded, but then she looked Jiang He up and down and was once again displeased.

”Come here.”

She beckoned to him.

Jiang He didn’t know why, but he obediently walked over and stood by the bed.

Shen Yu pointed at the back of his hand.

”Did you use the bathroom towel to wash your face?” she asked.

Jiang He nodded. ”I wiped it a little.”

”I knew it.” Shen Yu sighed, pulled a pack of tissues from her sweatshirt, and handed him one. ”You can’t just use the hotel towels either. You’re a doctor, for crying out loud. How can you be so careless in your daily life?”

Jiang He took the tissue.

Listening to her rambling lecture, not only did he not find it annoying, but his heart melted.

’It was just like this in his past life.’

In the operating room, he was meticulous about every detail, but in daily life, he was a completely clueless oaf.

All the household matters, from the utility bills to the seasonal changing of clothes and bedding, were handled by Shen Yu alone.

She was like a little sun, keeping his life well-organized and bright.

Listening to Teacher Shen had become part of his core programming.

”Got it. I’ll be more careful in the future,” Jiang He said obediently.

Seeing him take the scolding so meekly put Shen Yu in a good mood.

’It was strange. Normally, when she met guys she didn’t know, she’d habitually keep her distance and think over every word three times before speaking.’

’But with Jiang He, she didn’t feel that sense of guardedness at all.’

’Instead, when she saw him doing something wrong, she couldn’t help but want to set him straight.’

Shen Yu pouted and added, ”Actually, today was my fault too. I was too impulsive, and I ended up making you run all over the place.”

”When the cat was falling like that, rushing to catch it was an act of kindness. By the way, since your roommates are gone, how are you going to get food for the next few days?”

”The cafeteria.”

At the mention of her roommates, Shen Yu’s floodgates opened.

”Sigh, it’s actually good that they went home. If Juan’er were here, she’d definitely be laughing at me again.”

”Juan’er?”

”Yeah, my roommate. She’s the worst!” Shen Yu complained, her cheeks puffed up. ”A couple of days ago, didn’t I share that post of yours? The one that said eating sweets makes you dumb and ruins your looks, especially for us Cancers! I was so scared I immediately threw the cream puff I had just bought to Juan’er. But for the past few days, she’s been buying cream puffs and milk tea every day just to eat them in front of me on purpose!”

Jiang He asked with concern, ”You didn’t eat any, did you?”

”Of course not! I have a lot of willpower!” Shen Yu declared, then sighed again. ”It’s just... I still get cravings sometimes. Dr. Jiang, do you think eating sugar really makes you dumber?”

”Not in moderation, but eating too much is definitely bad for you. The original poster might have exaggerated a bit, but the general idea is correct. There’s no harm in cutting back on sweets.”

”If even a future top doctor like you says so, then I guess I was right to avoid it... From now on, I’ll only eat that sugar-free mung bean cake you bought.”

”You’d better.”

”Oh, right, Dr. Jiang.” Shen Yu looked at him curiously. ”Are you medical students usually really busy? You seem to know so much, you must be a top student at school, right?”

”I wouldn’t say a top student, but I have been pretty busy lately. The school just held the preliminary round of the Clinical Pathology and Reasoning Competition a couple of days ago, and I took first place.”

”First place? That’s amazing!”

”With a perfect score,” Jiang He added lightly.

”A perfect score? Oh my god, Jiang He, you’re on another level! Medical school exams must be so hard, and you actually got a perfect score! That’s incredible!”

Listening to Shen Yu’s unreserved praise, the corners of Jiang He’s mouth couldn’t help but curve upward.

In his past life, whenever he got published in a core journal or successfully completed a difficult surgery and came home to tell her, she was always just like this.

’She always gave him the ultimate emotional boost.’

That was why he could never resist sharing everything with his wife.

”There’s still the final round, but this is just a stepping stone. My real goal is to get into a professor’s lab and lead a research project on pancreatic cancer.”

”Pancreatic cancer? Is... is that very difficult to treat?”

”Extremely difficult. It’s known as the ’king of cancers.’”

Jiang He’s smile faded a little. He said, ”Currently, there’s no effective cure anywhere in the world, and the recurrence rate is extremely high. My goal is to overcome it. Or at the very least, to find a method that can significantly reduce the rate of recurrence.”

He wasn’t passionate when he said this, but his tone conveyed a deep sense of determination.

Shen Yu fell silent, staring intently at the man sitting before her.

After a moment, she said, ”Dr. Jiang, I believe you can definitely do it!”

Jiang He smiled and asked in return, ”What about you? What’s your goal?”

”Me?” Shen Yu paused for a second, then said sheepishly, ”My goal is just to become an excellent teacher. Sigh, compared to your goal of tackling a global medical challenge, mine seems so small, huh.”

”Not at all. A doctor heals the body, but a teacher nurtures the soul. Your goal isn’t small in the slightest.”

The Teacher Shen of his past life would buy stationery for students who were falling behind with her own money and would walk for hours on the athletic field to counsel a student who had fought with their parents.

She was the kindest, most patient teacher he had ever known.

Hearing Jiang He say that, Shen Yu’s eyes lit up again.

”Hehe, you also think being a teacher is great, right? Actually, to become an even better teacher, I’ve been preparing for something really important lately.”

”What’s that?”

”My university has a student exchange program right now. It’s a special partnership with the Ministry of Education to study at Huashi University for a year. My roommates all went home for the long holiday, but I stayed behind to work on my application and fight for a spot!”

Jiang He froze.

’An exchange student at Huashi University?’

’This was something he knew nothing about from his past life.’

’Maybe she failed to get in, or perhaps she missed the opportunity for some other reason.’

’None of that mattered.’

The most crucial thing was, Huashi University was in Southern China!

It was only a few dozen minutes’ drive from Nanshan Medical University, where he was.

This meant that if Shen Yu’s application was successful, she would cross a distance of two thousand kilometers and come directly to his city, right to his side.

No more chatting through a screen.

They could eat together in the cafeteria on weekends, study together in the library, and walk hand-in-hand down that little path lined with camphor trees.

Jiang He’s heart suddenly started to race.

He practically blurted out, ”Great! That’s great news!”

Shen Yu looked at him, a little baffled. ”Hm? Is it?”

Jiang He’s eyes were burning with intensity. ”Yes, you absolutely have to join this program! You have to go on the exchange! You have to!”
