I Am Diagnosed as a Medical Titan

Chapter 41: Chapter 41: Everyone’s Holding Back

”I’ll ’biu’ you! Stop that!”

Jiang He blinked hard, then said fiercely, ”From now on, if you’re injured, you have to let it heal completely before going out. Got it?”

Shen Yu pouted and mumbled under her breath, ”I know, I know... Dr. Jiang is so mean.”

She was trying to get away with it by acting cute.

Jiang He wasn’t falling for it and called her out on the spot. ”Don’t try to get sympathy by putting on a Taiwanese accent. It won’t work.”

”Hey!”

Shen Yu found it unbelievable.

She really hadn’t expected that the little trick she’d just learned from watching *Fated to Love You* would be seen through instantly.

’Can Jiang He read minds?’

Shen Yu pouted, knowing she couldn’t keep up the act, and switched back to her normal tone. ”Alright, alright, I was wrong. Let’s hurry and find a place to eat. It won’t taste good if it gets cold. I spent a long time making this.”

Seeing her like this, Jiang He was at a loss.

’How could he stay mad at that?’

He could only crouch down and say, ”Get on.”

Shen Yu looked around.

This was the bus stop in front of the Peking Union Medical College Hospital, and it was full of people.

Although he had carried her on his back a few times yesterday, doing it now in front of such a large crowd was still a bit embarrassing.

But she also knew she couldn’t win an argument with Jiang He.

After hesitating for two seconds, she obediently leaned forward, wrapped her arms around Jiang He’s neck, and climbed onto his back.

Passersby cast kind glances their way.

At the entrance of the bustling hospital, the mutual affection of this young couple was like a dash of refreshing sweetness. Even patients who had just been discharged felt their own aches and pains lessen at the sight.

Jiang He settled her securely on his back and walked slowly along the road.

Shen Yu rested quietly on his back.

With the jostling of his steps, she acted on a whim and secretly sniffed Jiang He’s hair.

No smell of smoke, just a nice fragrance.

Feeling her actions were a bit creepy, she quickly pulled her head back.

’Shen Yu, oh, Shen Yu, what in the world are you doing!’

She cursed herself wildly in her heart, but she just couldn’t control her own actions.

After returning to the dorm yesterday, she had called Juanzi.

The main purpose was to ask for help and advice.

At first, Juanzi had been listening with great interest.

But when she heard Shen Yu say, ”I only met him for the first time yesterday morning in the cafeteria,” Juanzi exploded.

”One day?! Shen Xiaoyu! Are you insane?!”

Juanzi completely lost it.

”You’ve only known each other for one day! One day! And you let him touch your foot? And went to get a room with him? Now you’re actually planning to cross half the Capital City on a lame leg to bring him food tomorrow?!”

Shen Yu defended herself pitifully, ”But he’s a really good person. I just wanted to thank him...”

”Good my ass!” Juanzi fumed. ”Guys these days are cunning! They use a few small favors to win you over, making you all weepy and moved! A little kid like you is the easiest type to fall for these tricks!”

”No, he’s different. He’s not that kind of person. He’s very nice...”

”Different my ass! No way, I can’t just stand by and watch you jump into a pit of fire! I’m coming back to school tomorrow. I want to see for myself what kind of guy this Jiang He really is! You just hold tight. Wait for me to get back to check him out for you, you hear me?!”

Her recollection ending there, Shen Yu sighed softly.

Juanzi was a local. When she said she was coming back to school, she would arrive quickly.

’So, for dinner tonight, should I invite her?’

Shen Yu was torn...

Jiang He, of course, was unaware of Shen Yu’s little thoughts.

He found a stone bench in a small public garden and sat down, leaning the crutch against a nearby tree trunk.

A gentle breeze swirled down a few locust leaves and also carried a sweet scent of jasmine.

Jiang He had actually smelled it long ago.

’My wife specially put on perfume today.’

’A girl endures a foot injury, braves the bus and subway to bring you food, and even gets all dressed up before coming out.’

’What does this mean... Isn’t this a little... intimate? Hmm?’

However, based on Jiang He’s understanding of Shen Yu, she was definitely not the type of girl to easily develop feelings for a guy.

In his past life, it took a full half a year after they met before they even held hands.

She was extremely serious about relationships and very guarded.

How could she possibly feel something for him after knowing him for just one day?

Jiang He felt that it was most likely his own delusion.

After all, the three great delusions in life are: your phone vibrating, you can turn the fight around, and she likes you...

Perhaps it was because he was seeing things through the huge filter of a reincarnator, which made him magnify Shen Yu’s gratitude and thoughtfulness into something more.

If he acted too eager or presumptuous right now, he might immediately trigger Shen Yu’s defense mechanism and scare her away...

So Jiang He restrained himself and sat properly in his spot.

And across from him, Shen Yu was also restraining herself.

”Hurry and try it. See if you like it,” Shen Yu said.

”Thank you,” Jiang He replied politely.

He opened the lunch box.

There was rice, scrambled eggs with tomato, and stir-fried pork with chili peppers.

Although they were simple dishes, they were fragrant. Shen Yu was an excellent cook, a skill honed from cooking for her parents at home since she was a child.

Jiang He took a bite, full of anticipation.

It tasted exactly the same as in his memories.

After his wife was diagnosed, she never cooked again. He hadn’t tasted this flavor in many years.

The stimulus from the sense of taste is no weaker than that from hearing or smell.

All sorts of sweet memories flooded his mind—countless small, happy moments...

Seeing the look in Jiang He’s eyes gradually soften, Shen Yu thought it was because he found the food delicious, so she said happily, ”Looks like it suits Dr. Jiang’s tastes, huh~”

Jiang He nodded and said softly, ”Yeah, it’s delicious.”

Seeing him in such a good mood, Shen Yu chuckled. ”As long as you like it.”

Jiang He asked, ”What about you? Have you eaten?”

Shen Yu said, ”Don’t worry, the chef never goes hungry. I already sneaked a few bites.”

”That won’t do. I have to take you out for something good tonight.”

After saying that, he worried it might be too forward and quickly added an excuse, ”Mainly because it was too much trouble for you to bring me food.”

”Oh, it’s no trouble, no trouble at all.”

Since the topic of dinner had come up, Shen Yu made up her mind and said, ”Dr. Jiang, if we’re going to eat later, then... how about I invite my friend to come along?”

”Who?”

”Juanzi. The ’bad woman’ I told you about yesterday, who’s always waving sweets in my face... Of course, she’s also my best friend.”

Of course Jiang He knew her. Xu Juan, his wife’s best friend, her bridesmaid in their past life, the daughter of Xu Wenpei, the Director of Peking Union Medical College Hospital General Surgery, and, of course, a good friend of his own.

One of his main goals in coming to the Capital City was to change his wife’s lifestyle habits.

He would eventually have to return to Southern China, so having Xu Juan by her side to help take care of her was for the best.

Besides, Xu Juan’s health was poor in his past life. She had always hated checkups, saying things like, ”If you don’t get a checkup, nothing can be wrong.”

In the end, an early-stage chronic kidney disease that could have been discovered with an inexpensive urine test was dragged out until it became uremia.

Forcing her to get a checkup now could also pull her back from the abyss and change her future.

Thinking of this, Jiang He nodded and said, ”Sure. Go ahead and invite her.”
