Endless Winter: My Camp Upgrades Infinitely

Chapter 1007: Chapter 364: Yan Xin’s Methods, Five Great Leaders, Yielding Without a Fight, Startling Realization

Whoosh whoosh whoosh......

Even though Zhou Yunkai and his five hundred meager numbers were fired up, the moment they retreated to the main building, it seemed that Jinbi Village’s fate for the day was already sealed.

The Bhikkhu of Dajue Temple and the Cold Resistance Level soldiers from Qinghepu didn’t chase after them immediately but stopped two hundred meters away.

When two armies face off, the first round of combat is inevitably archery; it’s a custom.

If you can kill from afar, there’s no reason to engage in close combat.

”Fire arrows!”

With a command from Yan Xin Chief, over twenty thousand Earth-digging Realm soldiers from Dajue Temple immediately drew their bows and fired rapidly towards the main building, wave after wave of arrows covering all the buildings around the main structure.

”Fire arrows!”

Xiahou Qin also unwillingly signaled his side to start shooting, though he seemed to have anticipated something, as his tone notably lacked confidence.

Crack... crack...

After he issued the command, the windows on the west side of over a dozen buildings around the main building were suddenly opened in unison, and a wave of arrows flew out, colliding fiercely with the rain of arrows from Dajue Temple.

Clang... clang......

Without even looking at the arrows hitting their targets, just by comparing the scale of the arrow rains shot by both sides, it was clear that Jiangxia’s side was completely defeated.

The over thirty thousand Earth-digging Realm soldiers from Jiangxia Town were all holed up in wooden houses, only able to shoot arrows through windows. Their formations couldn’t spread out, and the number of arrows they could shoot in one round was less than one-tenth of Dajue Temple’s side.

Thud thud thud thud......

So, unsurprisingly, the rain of arrows shot by over twenty thousand soldiers from Dajue Temple directly covered all the iron arrows shot by Jiangxia’s side; the arrows that broke through either shot through the windows, hitting the people inside, or nailed themselves into the wooden house walls.

No, most of the iron arrows were nailed into the wooden houses.

Many of the iron arrows shot by Dajue Temple’s side were actually ablaze.

Like most camps, the main material of the buildings in Jinbi Village was still wood. Hit by so many burning arrows, the outcome can be imagined.

Sizzle sizzle......

Tiny flames continuously ignited around the outside of the buildings; the freezing wind from Ice Abyss was already bitterly cold, and with Dajue Temple’s continuous rain of arrows, the surrounding airflow surged, causing the fire to quickly grow bigger.

Boom......

With the fire spreading outside the wooden house, the people inside instantly panicked, losing all thought of shooting arrows. They hurriedly took out beast skin tarpaulins to put out the flames, afraid that more burning arrows might fly in and quickly shut the windows again.

But these actions were nothing against the continuous iron arrow rain from Dajue Temple.

Whoosh whoosh whoosh......

”No, sir, we have too few people, and most of the arrows we shoot are blocked by the enemy’s Cold Resistance Level; they’re not making much of an impact!”

Upon hearing subordinate Zhou Yunkai’s warning, Xiahou Qin’s already bad complexion instantly darkened further.

The bows used by Cold Resistance Level soldiers have a minimum pull of one zong, which is over a hundred thousand pounds. To cast a strong bow with such high pull power, obtaining the bow frame isn’t a big issue, merely requiring more iron ore, but the bowstring material is hard to find, making the casting cost extremely high, not something every Cold Resistance Level can be equipped with.

Currently, of his over five hundred Cold Resistance Level soldiers, only a little over a hundred are equipped with strong bows. The arrows shot by these hundred people are, of course, formidable; those that hit the target can almost pierce through the opponent’s Hundred-forged Iron Armor, if not outright killing them, at least rendering them incapable of fighting.

But the issue is, there are too few of them!

Compared to the over twenty thousand troops from Qinghepu, it’s like a drop in the ocean.

Just as subordinate Zhou Yunkai said, most of the arrows shot by these hundred people were blocked by the enemy’s Cold Resistance Level, and the ones that hit the enemy soldiers were extremely scarce.

”They don’t have many arrows left; hold on, hold until close combat!”

Xiahou Qin slashed dozens of fire arrows, tightened his skin membrane, and used his body to block the remaining iron arrows. While the hundred people fired arrows, he and the remaining four hundred were not idle; they were continually blocking the iron arrows on the west side of the wooden house for the Earth-digging Realm soldiers inside as best they could.

Of course, the priority was to deflect the flaming arrows.

Bam......

”Ah!”

But how many arrows could over four hundred people actually block?

The thing Xiahou Qin worried about most finally happened; the fire completely spread from a wooden house north of the main building, and with a sudden cold wind, a burning wall on the second floor was blown off, allowing the icy air to surge in with the cold light from above. The people inside let out cries of agony.

”If the fire can’t be controlled, get into the main building, quickly!”

Xiahou Qin made a hasty decision; within Jinbi Village, the building with the most iron was the main building, and compared to other wooden houses, its fire spread much less easily.

As soon as they couldn’t control the fire, masses of people rushed out of the wooden houses, frantically heading into the main building. Luckily, Xiahou Qin didn’t let everyone rush out at once; otherwise, not to mention getting into the main building smoothly, many would have died just from trampling.

But what good would that do?

”Sir, it’s useless; hiding in the main building just delays the inevitable. Earth-digging Realm has almost no combat power during the day. We’ve lost; Jinbi Village can’t be defended!”

Zhou Yunkai, disregarding the impact on morale, turned and shouted to Xiahou Qin in front.

Xiahou Qin’s face turned crimson as he looked at the Earth-digging Realm soldiers in disarray, his eyes full of reluctance.

”Cease fire!”

Just as Xiahou Qin was about to shout for retreat, the chief Bhikkhu Yan Xin, who had been standing at the front, unexpectedly commanded the army to cease fire.
