Three Systems Made the Fake Heiress Unstoppable

Chapter 92: Chapter 92: The York Family Is Targeted by the Prescott Family

’He’d ask Chloe later if he could add her on WeChat.’

”Chloe, let me take you home!” Now that he had her contact information, Adrian Kane offered to give her a ride.

”That’s not necessary,” Chloe York refused.

”Chloe, just let my uncle take you home! He’s dumb and rich, so take his car and make him pay for gas.”

”Nora,” Adrian Kane warned, telling her to shut up. ’With the way she talks, it’s not just Chloe—anyone would think I’m a fool. How could she possibly be interested in me then?’

Evan Shaw then spoke up. ”Chloe, since the young lady is so enthusiastic, why don’t we all ride back together?”

”Oh, right. Adrian, this is Evan Shaw. He helped save you that night, too.” Chloe York suddenly remembered that she’d forgotten to introduce them. Seeing that they hadn’t interacted at all, she figured Adrian must not have done a thorough investigation. ’Evan was one of his rescuers, too.’

”Adrian, nice to meet you. I’m one of your saviors, too,” Evan Shaw said, his tone teasing.

Adrian Kane forced a smile that didn’t reach his eyes. ’I remember that entire night perfectly. This guy even urged Chloe not to save me. Now he has the nerve to claim he’s one of my saviors? If Chloe wasn’t such a good person, I would’ve been a goner right then and there.’

In the end, Adrian Kane still drove Chloe York and Evan Shaw home. He dropped Evan Shaw off first, saving Chloe York for last.

「The York Residence」

The moment Miles York walked into the house, he was scowling. He didn’t say a word, just plopped down on the sofa, causing Brooke York and Alice Cole, who had been chatting in the living room, to fall silent and stare at him.

”What’s with you? You come home and immediately start scowling at us? What did we do to you?” Alice Cole grew irritated at the sight of Miles York’s foul mood.

’Doesn’t he know not to bring his work stress home and take it out on the family?’

’Brooke and I aren’t his employees. We don’t have to put up with his long face.’

Alice Cole’s words only made Miles York even angrier. ”Don’t you know what you’ve done?”

”I have no idea. You won’t tell us, and we can’t guess. We’re not mind readers, you know,” Alice Cole retorted, plopping down on the sofa.

”Fine. Just fine. Are you telling me you don’t know about the wonderful mess Brooke made?”

Brooke York had been sitting on the sidelines enjoying the show. She felt no emotional connection to her parents, so their arguments meant nothing to her. But now that it was about her, she instantly knew he was talking about the incident with Sophia Quinn. She lowered her head, not daring to say a word.

Alice Cole also realized what he was talking about, and her expression changed.

Miles York didn’t miss their reactions; he knew they understood.

”The Prescott Family has put out the word: anyone who works with us, the Prescotts will never work with them again. I’m sure you understand what that means. If this goes on, our company will have no choice but to shut down.”

Not expecting it to be so serious, both Brooke York and Alice Cole began to panic.

”Then what do we do now? And that Sophia Quinn... Our families were supposed to be joined by marriage. We were going to be relatives! How could she be so ruthless toward our family?”

Alice Cole couldn’t understand why Sophia Quinn would show them no consideration whatsoever.

Little did she know that Arthur Prescott and Sophia Quinn’s thinking was quite simple: if the older generation hadn’t arranged the marriage, they would have never considered an alliance with the York Family in the first place.

They had plenty of ways to stop the York Family from daring to bring up the marriage alliance, but they were willing to go through with it because the intended bride was Chloe York.

But now that Chloe York was no longer the York family’s daughter, they had no reason to hold back.

”And you have the nerve to blame Sophia Quinn? This whole mess started because Arthur Prescott found out what Brooke did—hiring some man to harass Sophia Quinn! Brooke, how could your pig brain even come up with something like that?”

”I’m sorry, Dad. I didn’t think things would turn out like this.” Having been called out by Miles York, Brooke York couldn’t just cower and hide anymore. Lowering her head, she had no choice but to admit her mistake.

”You didn’t think? You’ve caused nothing but trouble since you came back. If I had known, I never would have brought you home.”

Brooke York’s head snapped up to look at Miles York. ’What did he just say? He regrets bringing me back? But I’m the real daughter of the York family! I’m his daughter!’

’So he’d still rather have Chloe York as his daughter?’

”Miles, what are you saying? Brooke is our biological daughter! How could you say something so hurtful to her?”

Miles York belatedly realized he had misspoken, but he was genuinely furious about what Brooke York had done. He couldn’t let the company he had spent so long building collapse on his watch.

Standing up, Miles York left the house without another word.

”Brooke, don’t overthink it. Your father is just blunt and speaks without thinking. He definitely doesn’t regret bringing you home,” Alice Cole said, sitting beside Brooke York to comfort her.

”I know, Mom. It really was my fault this time. I’ve caused Dad so much trouble.”

Alice Cole didn’t know what else to say. She could only pat the back of Brooke’s hand. ”Don’t worry. No matter what happens, you still have me!”

Brooke York nodded, looking docile, but she was seething with resentment on the inside.

’All she does is spout useless platitudes all day. She’s no help at all.’

Just as she was getting back into bed, Chloe York’s phone rang. She picked it up and saw it was a call from Miles York.

She had no desire to answer his call, so she silenced her phone, took out a worksheet, and started on it.

After calling several more times without an answer, Miles York guessed Chloe York might be asleep. It was only a little after 8 PM, but it was possible she was an early sleeper.

He hung up, dialed another number, and when the call connected, he ordered, ”Find out where Chloe York is living!”

「The next day」

As soon as her alarm went off, Chloe York got up and got ready. She usually ate breakfast out.

Just as she reached the bottom of the stairs, she saw Miles York. At the same moment, he saw her, and his face lit up. ”Chloe.”

”What is it?”

”You haven’t had breakfast yet, have you, Chloe? Dad will take you out to eat!” Miles York’s tone was eager to please. He opened his car door as he spoke, acting as if Chloe York had already agreed and motioning for her to get in.

”No, thank you. If you have something to say, just say it.” ’He wouldn’t be here unless he wanted something. I’ve been moved out for so long without him ever seeking me out. For him to show up now, he must need a favor from me.’

His intentions exposed, Miles York awkwardly closed the car door. ”Well, Chloe... I remember Mrs. Prescott is quite fond of you. Dad’s company has run into a bit of a problem. Could you ask Mrs. Prescott to let our company off the hook?”

Fearing she would refuse, he didn’t even wait for her to answer before adding, ”Chloe, no matter what, we’re still family. The family business is your safety net, your support system. Right?”
