Doctor Reborn as a Peasant Girl? Time to Get Rich

Chapter 211: Chapter 203: Spicy Rabbit

The Jin guard reached out, grabbed a piece, and tossed it into his mouth. He chewed enthusiastically, mumbling, ”Miss Bai said this is spicy rabbit. It’s delicious—really, really delicious.”

It was spicy, but it was a satisfying, flavorful heat. He just couldn’t stop eating.

Seeing him grab the food with his bare hands, Meng Nan wanted to do the same. But with Gu Xi present, he had to maintain some dignity. He shot the Jin guard a look. ”Why didn’t you bring chopsticks? Eating with your hands—how improper!”

Jin Xiao’an paid him no mind. After swallowing the rabbit meat in his mouth, he grabbed another piece and threw it in. ”Mmm, delicious. This is just too good. I’ve never had rabbit meat this tasty before.”

Meng Nan was practically drooling, but he couldn’t bring himself to grab the food with his hands in front of Gu Xi. He was a young master of the Meng Family, after all.

’Doesn’t this Gu Xi know how to take a hint? Does she have to wait for me to kick her out?’

Just then, Hu Feng walked in, a pair of chopsticks in hand. He went straight to the seat opposite Meng Nan, sat down, and started eating without a word.

Meng Nan was about to die from impatience. ”Hey, Hu Feng, why are you so selfish? You only brought one pair of chopsticks? Don’t you see there are other people here?”

Hu Feng looked up, glanced at him nonchalantly, then shot a look at Jin Xiao’an. ”Don’t you have hands?” he said coolly. ”You can eat without chopsticks.”

The maid who was always standing behind Meng Xi spoke in a soft voice, ”Lord Meng, I have chopsticks here. Would you like them?”

Meng Nan’s eyes lit up, and he quickly held out his hand. ”Yes, yes, yes! Quick, give them to me.” ’Damn it,’ he thought, ’any later and the plate will be empty. These two gluttons have no sympathy at all. I’m a patient!’

Meng Nan took the chopsticks from the maid and quickly waved them away. ”You two can go now. I have things to attend to.”

The handkerchief in Gu Xi’s hands was nearly twisted to shreds. Gritting her teeth, she said, ”Brother Meng, I’ll take my leave then. I will come see you another day.”

The moment Gu Xi and her maid were out the door, Meng Nan swiftly picked up a piece of spicy rabbit and put it in his mouth. He had always loved spicy food. The cuisine in Qingyuan Town was on the lighter side, which he had found refreshing at first. But as time went on, he found himself craving the spicy flavors of his hometown day and night.

He ate three pieces in a row, unable to stop. His mouth burning from the spice, he spoke around a mouthful of meat to the Jin guard, ”Jin Xiao’an, pour some water.”

Jin Xiao’an completely ignored him. He was attacking the dish with both hands now—one piece in his mouth, one in his left hand, and another in his right, afraid he’d lose out.

After eating a few pieces, Hu Feng stopped. He set his chopsticks aside, picked up the teapot from the table, and poured three cups.

Meng Nan unceremoniously took a cup and drank half of it in one gulp. ”You’re not eating anymore?” he asked curiously.

Hu Feng set down his cup, a faint smile on his face. ”It’s too spicy. The flavor is wonderful, but one shouldn’t overindulge, or else—”

He trailed off, leaving them in suspense.

Meng Nan and the Jin guard had loved spicy food since they were children, so how could they not understand what Hu Feng meant? But with such a delicacy right in front of them, they couldn’t be bothered to care. Satisfying their craving came first.

After leaving Meng Nan’s courtyard, Gu Xi instructed the maid beside her, ”Go and find out just who that Miss Bai the Jin guard mentioned is. And find out who made that dish. Go quickly.”

The maid acknowledged her order and left. Gu Xi stood outside the small courtyard, then suddenly turned back. She stared at the courtyard’s open gate, the light in her eyes flickering as she swore a silent oath. ’One day, I will stand by your side openly and hear people call me Mrs. Meng.’
