A Foodie Transmigrated into the Palace

Yue Er said calmly:

”Now’s not the time to discuss this!”

”What on earth is going on?”

Yilan didn’t hesitate much and recounted the afternoon’s events.

Yue Er and Wei Yu’s expressions changed several times after listening.

Chen Weiyu was somewhat impatient.

”With such a family, why not break off the engagement?”

”Eldest Sister Lan, you can’t back down!”

Yue Er glared at her.

”They’re not engaged yet, break off what engagement!”

”Besides, causing a scene about breaking off now would only invite suspicion, wouldn’t it?”

She thought for a bit and continued.

”My brother says, although the Nan Family isn’t immensely wealthy, they hold some power. The Nan Family’s heir is not a fool; he’s well-rounded in literature and martial arts, acts steadily, and has an excellent demeanor — a promising prospect!”

”Uncle and Aunt arranged this match for you with genuine care, not to harm you, nor to push you into a pit of fire! It’s extremely difficult to find a young man of suitable age with no major flaws and a matching family background.”

Chen Weiyu fell silent.

Yilan, however, muttered tearfully.

”I know my parents care for me, but...”

”How come I can’t see any excellent demeanor in that jerk?”

Bullying women, especially bullying his future wife — is that what you call excellent demeanor?

Yue Er asked solemnly.

”How did he bully you?”

Yilan felt a bit guilty.

”He... he spoke harshly to me! His attitude was rude!”

Yue Er gave her a bland look.

”You didn’t mention these earlier, did you? How did he speak harshly to you?”

Yilan lowered her head, unable to answer.

Chen Weiyu gradually understood the reason and felt a bit embarrassed.

”Well... I got a bit impulsive just now!”

”Eldest Sister Lan, think carefully if he really did something wrong to you?”

”Or is it that... you were the one in the wrong?”

Yilan looked at Yue Er, then at Wei Yu, feeling slightly aggrieved.

”Hey! Aren’t you two supposed to be on my side?”

”How come after just a few words, I’ve become the one at fault?”

Yue Er, a bit helpless, frowned.

”What good would it do us to criticize you?”

”Our advice is for your own good!”

”Nan Yunze was a husband carefully chosen by Uncle and Aunt after much deliberation, and you yourself like him!”

”You’ve only met once and had a tiny argument; how could it escalate to breaking off the engagement!”

Yue Er sincerely wished for her sisters to have happy lives.

She had asked around about Nan Yunze, and found that the man had no major flaws, peculiar temperament but good character.

Good-looking, decent family background, accomplished in both literature and martial arts, truly has talent and ambition, and doesn’t have messy romantic entanglements.

While their first meeting had its conflicts, the man bore no ill intentions.

(Which self-respecting man would like being stalked by a woman disguised as a servant boy? So, despite their unpleasant encounter, it can’t nullify his merits.)

In this matter, Yue Er was quite rational.

”Regardless of whether it was last time Ying Luo and I followed him, or this time when you secretly went to meet him!”

”His displeasure is understandable; everyone has preferences.”

”Moreover... it precisely shows that he’s a man with temper!”

”You wouldn’t want to marry a submissive wimp either!”

Yilan nodded thoughtfully.

”Seems like it’s true!”

Her mood eased slightly, and she called for the maid to bring in water to wash her face and change her clothes.

After tidying up, the three sat together at the tea table, drinking tea and chatting.

Chen Weiyu chuckled.

”After hearing what Yue Er said, I actually think you’re being overly dramatic, Eldest Sister Lan!”

”After all, you secretly went to see him; it was you who broke the rules!”

Yilan’s face reddened once more.

”Alright, alright! I get it!”

”I won’t see him again before the wedding, okay!”

Yue Er nodded.

”Alright, this matter is finally settled; don’t act foolish in the future!”

Such a match is actually quite rare.

For Royal Clan Daughters, finding a good family isn’t easy.

The family status can’t be too low, as it affects the Royal Family’s prestige.

Nor can it be too high, or else they’d be marrying within their own family, wouldn’t they?

Thus suitable matches for them are naturally scarce.

Furthermore, families in the Capital City’s Zanying Family are generally disinclined to marry Royal Clan Daughters.

Firstly, they’re not Princesses, usually only at the level of Commandery Princess or County Princess, with lower status but lots of bad habits, far from being proper ladies of a prestigious family.

Marrying them adds no luster internally.

Internally, they don’t get the benefits of marrying a Princess, like gaining the Emperor’s favor, the Princess’s substantial dowry, or special royal treatments, etc.

Externally, it’s more embarrassing; Commandery Princesses and County Princesses, spoiled since birth, are often hot-tempered and lack finesse, not good at socializing, losing many opportunities to shine in court, which is detrimental to official diplomacy.

Therefore, these prominent families would rather lower their standards to marry a true lady of a prestigious family than a comparable Royal Clan Daughter!

As a result, many Royal Clan Daughters only get married through arranged marriages (it’s a sad story).

In conclusion.

Yilan’s seemingly mediocre marriage becomes especially valuable.

If her father weren’t the princely heir, if she weren’t a legitimate offspring, if... Prince He Mansion’s influence weren’t sufficient.

If they lacked the strength to support and bring benefits to her husband’s family, she truly might not have found such a suitable match.

”Considering all factors, that Nan Yunze is actually quite alright!” said Chen Weiyu.

Yue Er also nodded.

”Since you like him so much, marrying wouldn’t be a loss; don’t overthink it!”

If she herself likes him, as long as he doesn’t reciprocate feelings with another, she’s willing to marry.

Give it a shot; if it doesn’t work out, she can always divorce him and dismiss him. Yes, she’s just that headstrong.

Yilan still seemed a bit bewildered.

”But what if I marry and he takes concubines, bullies me, or even neglects me?”

Yue Er was nearly speechless.

”Are you crazy!”

”A County Princess who can’t handle concubines should just forget about marrying; let’s not get married either, and live carefree lives together!”

Yilan thought about it and realized it was true.

”Okay then!”

Chen Weiyu felt somewhat emotional.

”Matters of the heart really are difficult to understand!”

”Eldest Sister Lan used to fear no one, now she fears everyone!”

”Right, Yue Er!”

Yue Er glanced at her, and the two shared a smile.

Yilan’s face looked slightly embarrassed, she retorted indignantly.

”Laugh at me now, but there’ll be a time when you’ll cry!”

”Don’t come to me then!”

Chen Weiyu hurriedly said.

”Eldest Sister Yilan, don’t worry about us!”

”Just focus on taming your unruly husband!”

Yilan’s face flushed red, and she got up to go after Wei Yu’s mouth.

Chen Weiyu quickly ran off, Yue Er blocked from both sides, speechless.

”Are you two three-year-olds? Each of you is so vexing!”
