A Foodie Transmigrated into the Palace

Yilan was somewhat incredulous.

”But my mother clearly said, the Southern Crown Prince is both civil and martial, with excellent character!”

”Could it be... My mother’s judgment is not accurate?”

Yue Er shook her head slightly.

”I’m not sure about this either!”

”Perhaps... having only met once, she hasn’t understood him well enough!”

Yilan looked somewhat tense, tightly clutching her fingers, unsure of what to do.

Seeing this, Yue Er felt a pang and started to strategize.

”If it really doesn’t work out, why don’t you meet him yourself?”

Yilan was somewhat panicked.

”Ah? Me? That’s not according to protocol!”

The customs of the Great Chu Dynasty may be open, but not to the extent that unmarried girls selfishly meet their betrothed!

Moreover, since ancient times, marriage matters are dictated by parental orders and matchmakers’ words.

Even princesses abide by this, let alone her, a mere County Princess!

On this matter.

Yilan, usually carefree, sharp and decisive, had lost her confidence completely.

”Better to forget it!”

If discovered, it would be a serious matter damaging her reputation.

Princesses might not care, but she is merely a typical noblewoman, what right has she not to care!!

”Why don’t I help you?” Yue Er offered enthusiastically.

Yilan quickly stopped her.

”Forget it, forget it, I don’t want it!”

After pondering a while, she continued.

”Yue Er, you don’t know, my mother has been looking for a long time, it’s rare that she’s pleased with a family, if push comes to shove, I’ll just marry!”

In terms of status, the Prince He Mansion is a Prince’s Mansion, She is a County Princess personally titled by the Emperor, whereas Marquis Pingan is merely a Marquis, thus, naturally inferior.

In terms of capability, her several brothers and cousins are not fools; they have been diligently learning, practicing earnestly, and steadily progressing since childhood. Though still young now, with some nurturing in the future, they will certainly excel, and she has support.

Most importantly, Prince He Mansion is surnamed Zhao, belonging to the Royal Clan.

Whereas the Nan family from Marquis Pingan, the family is not large, their ancestral home is not in the Capital City, this branch is considered single-line, with limited influence.

Therefore... the marriage between County Princess Yilan and Marquis Pingan’s Heir obviously meant the woman would marry down.

Of course, Prince He Mansion is of royal lineage, whoever County Princess Yilan chooses will mean marrying down somewhat.

But in the Capital City, there are many families with more power than Pingan Marquis Mansion, and many eligible bachelors.

In other words, Prince He Mansion has ample ability to find a more powerful family for County Princess Yilan.

However, Master Prince and Imperial Concubine are not seeking glory by selling their daughter. They are wholeheartedly focused on their daughter’s happiness.

After picking among eligible bachelors, they ultimately selected the family of Marquis Pingan.

Such an alliance is a truly joyous occasion for the Pingan Marquis Mansion, so they have no reason not to be delighted.

So...

After Prince He Mansion hinted their intentions, Lady of Marquis Pingan promptly visited with her son, demonstrating a willingness for marriage.

”My mother surely wouldn’t... harm me, right?” Yilan was very conflicted.

”Of course not!” Yue Er affirmed decisively.

”If not for Aunt choosing that ’Heir’, what merit does the Pingan Marquis Family have to connect with yours in marriage!”

”I believe Aunt truly has your best interests at heart!”

(In ancient times, when many large families sought matches for their children, they rarely truly considered the children’s feelings, merely maximizing benefits. This is not uncommon, which is why Yue Er spoke like this!)

”But...”

Yue Er was still somewhat hesitant.

She really felt that Heir was not simple! Of course, not simple doesn’t equate to bad.

No matter how clever or cunning he may be, confront his mother he absolutely shows the posture of a filial son.

”Observe for a while!”

She did not say much more.

”During the time before the betrothal agreement, make sure to seek information through as many channels as possible!”

”I genuinely wish for your happiness!”

County Princess Yilan turned to look at Yue Er, with her eyes somewhat moist.

”Yi Zhao, thank you!”

”Without your encouragement and assistance, I truly wouldn’t know what to do or who to confide in!”

Yue Er was also deeply touched, yet still jokingly said.

”Look at you, how you’ve changed!”

”Back when we played together, weren’t you fearless of everything!”

”How come... You seem to be going backwards in life?”

Yilan playfully ’punched’ her.

”You rascal, I’m speaking sincerely here!”

Yue Er hurriedly dodged, and the two laughed and teased each other.

...

That night.

After meeting the Pingan Marquis mother and son, Imperial Concubine approached Yilan for a conversation.

County Princess Yilan, feeling uncertain, pulled Yue Er along to listen.

Yue Er initially declined, but Imperial Concubine laughed and said.

”Princess is unreserved and eager to help, if not for your companionship, Yilan might overthink things again!”

”Although marriage is dictated by parental orders, Yilan is my only daughter, my sole hope is her happiness, so I must listen to your opinions!”

”You young girls, it’s easier to discuss!”

Upon hearing the sensible words of Imperial Concubine, Yue Er did not decline further.

Yilan, however, blushed, unsure of what to do.

”Mother, stop talking!”

Imperial Concubine held the hands of her daughter and Yue Er, chuckling.

”I’ve come through when you were at this age, what haven’t I experienced?”

”There’s no outsider here, express whatever thoughts you have!”

”Lanlan, especially you, make sure to tell Mother whatever you think!”

After thinking, Yilan’s mood gradually calmed down.

...

Over the next Shi Chen.

The three expressed their thoughts on whether Marquis Pingan’s Heir was worthy of marriage.

Imperial Concubine’s view was clear: this man can indeed be wed!

”His character and abilities have been thoroughly investigated by others on Mother’s orders, and have gained acceptance from your brothers, your father, indicating that he has great character, ability, and with some nurturing, he will flourish...”

In other words, he is no fool, but incredibly capable.

This fact must be acknowledged, even if pursuing eternal fame may not be the aim, marrying a fool is certainly not desirable, this is undeniable.

”The rest, Mother has also inquired for you!”

”There are no concubines nor children in his household, just one or two chamber maids to serve him, which is insignificant!”

In large families, chamber maids by the master’s side are not unlike warm-bed tools, it is really normal.

If needed, they are summoned to sleep; if not needed, they are kicked aside. There’s no notion of likes or dislikes, after all, if disliked, they are directly dealt with.

These things, akin to needing a quilt in cold weather or needing water when thirsty, bear no grievance.

”Regarding looks...”

On this topic, Imperial Concubine glanced at Yue Er.

”You probably already know, Mother need not elaborate!”

After stating a large string of words, Imperial Concubine took several deep breaths, and drank a cup of water to ease herself.

”Lanlan, what do you think?”

Yilan felt no peace within her, full of restless thoughts.

Great character, not a fool, good looks, is that enough?

Could she express that she desires more than just these? Is she being too greedy?

”I...” She hesitated, conflicted.

Yue Er nudged her arm.

”Speak out boldly!”
