The Entry-plundering Demon Hunter

Chapter 266: Chapter 263: Execute First, Report Later, Martial God’s Special Permission

Dawn was just breaking.

RUMBLE—

The heavy city gates slowly swung open.

Lin Yi walked out from within, emerging from the swirling mist.

Wei Shang and Feng Lei quickly turned to look.

The moment they saw Lin Yi, they couldn’t help but break into smiles.

”You guys are right on time!”

Lin Yi approached them and said with a light smile.

Last night, before entering Jail City, Lin Yi had sent a message to Wei Shang.

He asked them to come to Jail City at dawn to pick him up.

It was still early, and services like the subway and buses weren’t running yet.

Even taxis were hard to come by on the streets.

Lin Yi didn’t want to linger around Jail City, and he especially didn’t want Tang Qinru to know he had come here.

So, after mulling it over, he decided to send Wei Shang a message.

Who would have thought that Wei Shang and Feng Lei were such men of action? They had actually come and were waiting for him.

Lin Yi had originally thought he might have to find a breakfast spot and grab a bite before Wei Shang and the others would arrive...

”How could we possibly take it slow after getting your message?”

”But why did you enter Jail City by yourself? Where are Wei Nan and Zhou Qi?”

Wei Shang asked, a little curious.

Lin Yi glanced at them. ”Ever since last time, it’s left a mark on them. They refuse to come back to Jail City, no matter what.”

”They plan on waiting until they break through to the Three-Star Realm before trying their luck in Jail City again.”

Hearing this, Wei Shang smiled and nodded.

The last trip to Jail City had indeed been rough on Wei Nan and the others.

The gap in their realms made it nearly impossible for them to move freely in Jail City.

Raising their realms first before returning to Jail City was the right call.

At least they wouldn’t end up as demon beast fodder.

If they could reach the Three-Star Realm before coming back, their survival would at least be guaranteed.

Even if two of them encountered a single 3-star demon beast, they should have no problem escaping, even if they couldn’t win.

”That’s for the best. Focus on raising their realms and training hard, so they don’t end up losing their lives here one day.”

”Where to now? Straight back to school, or...?”

Lin Yi rubbed his stomach. ”Let’s get something to eat first. I was in there all night, used up a lot of my Qi and Blood, and my stomach’s been empty for a while.”

”Alright. What do you want to eat? There are two breakfast places up ahead. One sells steamed buns, congee, and that sort of thing, and the other one...”

”Let’s go to the other one!”

Before Wei Shang could finish, Lin Yi decisively chose the other option.

He desperately needed a large amount of food to replenish his depleted Qi and Blood.

Steamed buns and congee were no longer enough to satisfy him.

Wei Shang smiled and nodded. ”Alright, the other one it is...”

The three of them exchanged a smile and walked toward the breakfast shop ahead.

”By the way, do you guys know Han Dong?”

”Who? Han Dong?”

”Yes.”

”Don’t know him personally, but I’ve heard the name. Why, did you run into him in there?” Wei Shang asked, frowning slightly.

Lin Yi smiled. ”A little squad that makes a living by killing and looting. Yeah, I ran into them.”

As soon as he said that, both Wei Shang and Feng Lei grew tense.

”Are you okay? They didn’t hurt you, did they? I’ll go look for them later...”

Lin Yi shook his head. ”You won’t be able to find them. They’re all staying in there for good.”

”Before long, they’ll probably become demon beast fodder.”

Hearing this, Wei Shang and Feng Lei stared at each other in bewilderment.

Wei Shang’s expression was particularly exaggerated as he asked, ”You killed them all?”

”Mhm.”

Lin Yi gave a slight nod.

”Holy shit! That squad had two in the Four-Star Realm, one who was almost at the Four-Star Realm, and two at the Three-Star Realm. You wiped them all out?” Wei Shang asked again, completely stunned, needing to confirm.

Lin Yi nodded again. ”What, you two feel bad for them?”

”Feel bad my ass! I was worried about you... wait, give it to me straight.”

”What realm are you at now, exactly?”

As if he’d just realized something, Wei Shang stared at Lin Yi with a grave expression.

”Me? I’m at the 5-star realm.”

”Holy... shit...”

Lin Yi’s casual remark left Wei Shang and Feng Lei utterly speechless with shock.

And in that moment, any doubt they had about Lin Yi being the White Tiger Martial God completely vanished.

Besides a Martial God, who else could advance through realms as easily as drinking water?

How long had the university semester even been going? Barely a month.

When they had just met, Lin Yi was still wearing the badge of a 4-star Martial Artist.

And now, in just one month, he had already broken through to the 5-star realm?

...

In an inn.

Guo Hao and his group had watched with their own eyes as Lin Yi walked out of Jail City.

The answer was already obvious: Han Dong and his men had failed.

For a long while, they watched until Lin Yi and his companions disappeared from view. Guo Hao’s expression grew increasingly grave.

A flicker of panic also flashed in the eyes of Little Fatty and the others.

”We’re screwed. Brother Dong and his men failed, and Lin Yi came out alive.”

”Is he going to come after us for revenge?” one of the boys said.

”He probably won’t, right? Would Han Dong really sell us out?”

”Han Dong is a desperado. Did you really think he’d have any sense of honor? It would be perfectly normal for him to sell us out to save his own skin, wouldn’t it?”

”What did I tell you? We never should have provoked him! Now that things have come to this, we can’t even go back to school...” Little Fatty said, fraught with panic.

As he finished speaking, Guo Hao and the others glanced at him.

”What do you mean we can’t go back? School is the safest place to be!”

”Even if he wants to settle the score, what can he possibly do at school?”

”Forget killing us, the school would punish him even if he just laid a finger on us!”

”Besides, he’s just a martial arts student from the Old District. The school will always side with us, not him!”

The regulations of the New District made them feel secure and fearless.

Among Martial Artists, forget killing—even fighting would trigger the intervention of the school and the Town Martial Department.

Minor offenses would result in punishment or detention.

For serious cases, one could even be expelled from school, executed on the spot by the Town Martial Department, or thrown into Jail City.

”Right, let’s go back to school. We shouldn’t come out for the next few months.”

”We’ll wait until he’s forgotten about this whole thing before we do anything else!”

Little Fatty said quickly.

Hearing this, the other students didn’t say anything, but it was clear from their eyes that they all agreed with what Little Fatty had said.

If they came back to Jail City anytime soon and ran into Lin Yi again...

Besides, their mission cooldown periods were all the same.

The probability of running into him was high.

Therefore, staying at school was the only foolproof option.

The group exchanged a look.

”Let’s go! Back to school, now! We can’t stay here any longer!”

As soon as the words were spoken, they all nodded and scrambled out of the room in a panic.

They didn’t even bother getting their security deposit back, rushing down the long street toward the station.

Inside the breakfast shop.

Wei Shang was gnawing on a piece of Demon Beast Meat.

”Putting that aside, Han Dong and his men don’t do anything without a profit motive.”

”They wouldn’t have targeted you for no reason unless someone paid them.”

”Think about it. Did you offend someone?”

Hearing this, Lin Yi looked up at him.

Just then, Guo Hao and his group happened to walk past the breakfast shop.

Lin Yi smiled. ”If I’m not mistaken, it was them.”

”Them?”

Wei Shang and Feng Lei glanced outside.

”Aren’t those two from Zhou Qi and Sun Tao’s dorm? One’s named Guo Hao, and the other is Wu Jie, right?”

Lin Yi nodded. ”They’ve been following me ever since I accepted the mission yesterday.”

”They followed me all the way to Jail City.”

”If I said they had nothing to do with it, would you believe me?”

Wei Shang and Feng Lei both nodded.

Guo Hao, Wu Jie, and the others were all local students.

The local students had always been hostile toward those from the Old District.

Lin Yi had known this for a long time.

A conflict had broken out between them during his last trip to Jail City.

Although no one had mentioned the incident after returning to school, there was no guarantee they weren’t holding a grudge and waiting for an opportunity to retaliate.

Therefore, them hiring Han Dong’s squad to take revenge on Lin Yi was no coincidence.

It was highly likely that they were behind it.

”So how do you want to handle this? Have the Town Martial Department intervene directly?”

Wei Shang asked for Lin Yi’s opinion.

Lin Yi took a bite of noodles and glanced up at Wei Shang.

”If I could kill people at school, I wouldn’t need the Town Martial Department to get involved.”

”Since I can’t, I’ll have to let the Town Martial Department step in. Will that be difficult?”

Upon hearing Lin Yi’s words, Wei Shang grinned. ”To tell you the truth, the Town Martial Department doesn’t need evidence to enforce the law.”

”If we think you’re guilty, you’re guilty. If you dare to resist, we’ll execute you on the spot!”

”As long as you agree to let the Town Martial Department intervene, they won’t be able to escape—whether it was them or not!”

Lin Yi gave Wei Shang a surprised look.

”The Town Martial Department is that overbearing?”

”It’s not being overbearing, it’s a special privilege!”

”The Town Martial Department doesn’t answer to the Martial Arts Alliance, and certainly not to the Demon Hunting Bureau. It answers only to the Martial God!”

”In the New District, the Martial God is a god-like existence!”

”Who would dare place themselves above a god? We are the god’s attendants and also the god’s enforcers!”

”Even the Martial Arts Alliance and the Demon Hunting Bureau have to bow to the Town Martial Department!”

Wei Shang explained with a proud look.

Even Feng Lei was nodding along enthusiastically beside him.

The privileges granted by the Martial God superseded any established laws.

That was why the Town Martial Department had always been so domineering.

Even though the previous Martial God had been missing for several hundred years.

The reason the Town Martial Department could still stand firm and command the fear of the Demon Hunting Bureau and the Martial Arts Alliance was mainly that the Department had people capable of suppressing them.

Otherwise, without a Martial God to back it, the Town Martial Department would have long been carved up by the Demon Hunting Bureau and the Martial Arts Alliance until nothing was left.

Lin Yi smiled and nodded. ”So that’s how it is.”

”But for a small matter like mine, wouldn’t troubling the Town Martial Department be a bit like using a sledgehammer to crack a nut?”

”Not at all! Their actions have already broken the laws of the New District!”

”Hiring assassins is a heinous crime!”

”It’s perfectly normal for the Town Martial Department to step in. Just give the word, and we’ll take the case!”

Wei Shang said quickly with a smile.

Lin Yi glanced at him, then at Feng Lei’s sincere face.

”Alright, I’ll leave it to you then.”

After getting Lin Yi’s permission, Wei Shang’s face lit up with excitement.

This was the very first order the future Martial God had given him.

Not even Old He had received a direct order. This was enough for him to boast about to everyone back at the Town Martial Department for a good while.

Lin Yi finished his bowl of noodles, down to the last drop of broth.

He glanced at Wei Shang and Feng Lei again. ”Are you full?”

”Full!”

”Then let’s pay the bill and get going...”
