Chapter 1531: Chapter 1528: Showing Unwarranted Favor

Xu Wendong slowly narrowed his eyes, a cold glint like a sharp sword flashing through them: ”If Senior Si Yao insists on breaking into the formation, then I’ll have no choice but to treat you as an enemy.”

This formation not only safeguarded his safety but also concerned the lives of over ten disciples from Lingyan Pavilion. He would never allow outsiders to step inside.

Anyone daring to break in would be considered an enemy by him.

”Xu Wendong, you are truly arrogant! Senior Si Yao wants to comprehend your formation, which is a recognition of your skills. I advise you not to be ungrateful!” Wang Tong, his face full of anger, added fuel to the fire from the side.

Zhen Jing followed closely: ”Exactly, even if you’ve achieved something in formations, Senior Si Yao is acknowledged as a Heavenly Pride in the Underground City. How can you be so discourteous?”

”Both of you, shut up!” Si Yao huffed indignantly, then looked at Xu Wendong with a smile: ”We might even become friends.”

She wasn’t angry at Xu Wendong for refusing her. After all, every Heavenly Pride has their pride.

Xu Wendong was resolute: ”The option of being friends doesn’t exist here.”

”Hmm?” Si Yao slightly frowned, a trace of displeasure on her face: ”Do you distrust me that much?”

Xu Wendong’s gaze was as calm as water: ”In these chaotic times, it’s best to be cautious.”

Si Yao chuckled softly and asked offhandedly: ”I’m curious, what options do you have?”

Xu Wendong cleared his throat, a touch of embarrassment on his face: ”Women and enemies.”

”You’re truly a dissolute person!” Si Yao’s face showed a hint of anger, her gaze at Xu Wendong filled with disgust.

She despised men who were lustful and promiscuous the most.

Xu Wendong just smiled without offering any explanation.

Si Yao looked at Wang Tong and Zhen Jing beside her, coldly saying: ”Quickly go assist the Six Great Families with disaster relief, maintain order in the city, and notify me immediately if anything happens!”

”Yes!” Wang Tong and Zhen Jing responded and then took off into the sky, flying into the distance.

Meanwhile, Si Yao set her sights on a nearby secluded courtyard by the formation.

The courtyard was empty, and she planned to live there for a while.

Firstly, to understand the array Xu Wendong set up; secondly, and most importantly, with the current panic in the city and anomalies in the City Defense Array, she was uneasy about a wild formation master living inside the city.

She wanted to stay to monitor Xu Wendong’s every move, preventing him from finding and exploiting a weakness in the City Defense Array, then breaking the formation to leave the Underground City.

Should that happen, the Other Races would surely discover this place and launch a massive invasion.

At that time, the citizens in the city would face unprecedented doom.

Xu Wendong had no idea why Si Yao was living next door, nor did he care. To him, it wouldn’t affect his life.

Although Si Yao was recognized as a formation master in the Underground City, breaking the array he built would be no easy task.

------

”Senior Brother Wang Tong, your plan didn’t work at all, so return that elixir to me!” Zhen Jing glared at Wang Tong with a somber expression.

He originally thought Si Yao’s emergence today would help him break the formation, letting him do as he wished with Xu Wendong.

Unexpectedly, not only did the plan fail to eliminate Xu Wendong, he almost got himself killed in the process.

Wang Tong was annoyed: ”Senior Brother Zhen Jing, don’t you have any idea why my plan failed? If it weren’t for your wife’s last-minute betrayal, how could my plan have failed so miserably?”

Zhen Jing was at a loss for words.

Indeed, today’s plan failed largely due to his wife’s last-minute betrayal.

”Don’t worry, I still have a way to get rid of Xu Wendong.” A sinister glint appeared in Wang Tong’s eyes: ”This time, not even Han Hexiang can save him!”

Zhen Jing couldn’t help but ask: ”What way?”

Wang Tong grinned, intentionally being mysterious: ”You’ll find out when the time comes!”

------

Night fell.

The enticing aroma of food wafted from Xu Wendong’s place, reaching Si Yao’s nostrils.

This made Si Yao, who was cultivating, open her eyes, a peculiar glint flashing in her beautiful eyes.

Though food in the Tianji Pavilion was plentiful during this time, it was extraordinarily bland and tasteless, enough only to fill the stomach.

Now.

Smelling the aroma from the adjacent courtyard awakened her hunger pangs, causing her stomach to rumble and saliva to form.

Especially the scent of braised meat, which she found unbearable.

Just then.

Soft footsteps sounded in the courtyard, followed by Xu Wendong’s voice reaching her ears: ”Senior Si Yao, seeing that you haven’t lit a fire, I specially brought you some supper. I wonder if it suits your taste.”

Si Yao was surprised, not expecting Xu Wendong to bring her food.

She didn’t think much.

She got up and opened the door, seeing Xu Wendong holding a jade bowl, in which glistened Spirit Rice, along with a large piece of fragrant, tender, bone-shedding demon beast meat.

”Young Master Xu’s generosity is overwhelming!” Si Yao smiled meaningfully. She had heard many sought rice from Xu Wendong but were refused.

Now, Xu Wendong personally delivered food to her, how could she not be intrigued?

Xu Wendong’s old face turned slightly red, and his mouth twitched uncontrollably: ”If Senior Si Yao doesn’t need this food, I’ll take it back to feed my dog!”

”You...”

Si Yao flushed with anger, intending to tease Xu Wendong, never expecting him to say such words.

She took a deep breath, calming her emotions.

With a wave, the jade bowl Xu Wendong held flew to her hand, and she glanced at Xu Wendong displeasedly: ”Even if you deliver food, this lady isn’t interested in you.”

”I advise you to give up any inappropriate thoughts about me!”

Xu Wendong suppressed his embarrassment: ”If I said I have no thoughts about you, would you believe me?”

”Then why the sudden attentiveness?” Si Yao appeared calm, but felt a surge of invisible anger. As a Heavenly Pride in the Underground City, she was countless people’s goddess.

Any normal man was enamored by her.

Now, a jerk claimed he had no thoughts about her, forcing her to doubt her allure.

”I’m not being attentive without reason!” Xu Wendong’s expression turned serious: ”I want to know about the situation on the surface, like if we stand a chance of surviving this calamity.”
