Chapter 1508: Chapter 1505: Embracing the World, Upholding Justice and Punishing Evil

Upon returning home.

Lu Shuling and Xue Yan had already prepared dinner, a rich spread of both meat and vegetables.

They warmly welcomed Xu Wendong upon his return.

However.

After hearing about the situation on the surface from Xu Wendong, both of them showed signs of concern in their eyes, knowing well the unimaginable consequences if the residents of the Underground City were to revolt due to food shortages.

If it really came to that, a tragedy where people turn on each other could very likely occur.

”With the remaining grain we have, if we ration it, we can sustain ourselves for three to five years without much problem,” Xu Wendong said. ”After dinner, I’ll set up a formation to prevent any sudden incidents.”

Lu Shuling hesitated for a moment and couldn’t help but ask, ”Husband, could you... could you give me some grain?”

”I want to share some with the disciples of Lingyan Pavilion.”

Although Lingyan Pavilion had become ruins, some disciples still lived in the city, and Lu Shuling couldn’t ignore their lives and deaths.

Xu Wendong shook his head, ”It’s better not to give them food!”

Lu Shuling’s expression froze instantly, as if she hadn’t expected Xu Wendong to refuse her, or that he would abandon their fellow sect members.

This left her with a sense of disappointment.

Feeling she had misjudged.

Xu Wendong guessed Lu Shuling’s thoughts and shook his head with a smile, ”Instead of giving them food, it’s better to have them move near us. This way, we can watch over each other and prevent unforeseen incidents.”

Xue Yan nodded slightly, ”Junior Brother Xu has a point. It’s unwise to flaunt our resources. If others see us assisting our fellow disciples, they will definitely target those disciples.”

”They might even target us.”

”That wouldn’t be good for us.”

”Additionally, by living in close proximity, we can look out for each other and provide support if there’s any danger.”

Lu Shuling agreed with Senior Sister Xue and immediately took out a communication talisman to tell them to purchase supplies if they could, and move over once they’re done.

Currently, twelve people from Lingyan Pavilion were living in the Underground City. They had two courtyards with six rooms, enough to accommodate them.

The loyalty of the Lingyan Pavilion disciples was still strong.

Even though Lingyan Pavilion was a thing of the past.

Lu Shuling was still the hope in everyone’s hearts for Lingyan Pavilion. Upon receiving her message, the other eight disciples promptly purchased supplies and moved over.

Five fair-skinned, beautiful women and three men.

Some of whom Xu Wendong had met once while gathering herbs outside, so they weren’t entirely strangers.

They also knew of Xu Wendong’s expertise in formations and that he was about to apprentice under Han Hexiang to learn alchemy. Even knowing he was a cultivator from the lower realm didn’t make them look down on him.

Especially after seeing Xu Wendong set up a marvelous formation that enveloped both courtyards, their respect and admiration for him grew, and they did not conceal their awe.

It was late at night.

A group of people sat in the courtyard, gazing at the night sky, their expressions heavy and the atmosphere particularly oppressive.

”Senior Sister Lu, for safety’s sake, I think you shouldn’t go guard the city,” a woman in a long blue dress with delicate features and fair skin spoke, her words full of concern.

Her name was Liu Ruxue, and she had previously visited Lingyan Pavilion with Xu Wendong, harboring hostility and scorn towards him.

However.

After Xu Wendong used a formation to drive back the three-headed demon wolf, severely wounding it and carrying it back, her attitude towards him visibly changed.

”Senior Sister Liu makes a valid point. Although the city seems peaceful on the surface, when we were purchasing supplies earlier, there were conflicts and looting,” a young man with sword-shaped eyebrows and a bright gaze spoke up. His name was Wu Lang, and he was in the mid-Heavenly Immortal Realm.

”If peace is broken, it will definitely be perilous,” he added.

Xue Yan also said, ”Little sister, I think Senior Sister Liu and Junior Brother Wu are right. Being a city guard is inherently dangerous, and once peace is shattered, the risk will certainly rise. You should consider resigning from this job.”

They were all concerned about Lu Shuling’s safety because she was the hope for the future of Lingyan Pavilion.

They didn’t want her to encounter any danger or unforeseen events.

Lu Shuling shook her head resolutely, ”I know you’re concerned for my safety, but in times of crisis, someone has to stand up and face the danger.”

”Just like when the Other Races invaded Lingyan Pavilion, the reason we survived that catastrophe was that the strong from Lingyan Pavilion stood up.”

”Although my cultivation level isn’t strong enough to face those powerful Other Races, I can maintain order within the city.”

”Moreover, we need to stay informed about the outside world and not remain stagnant.”

”I agree with Shuling’s viewpoint,” Xu Wendong also stated his stance. ”When one has the ability, they should be concerned about the world and fight against evil.”

”Besides, if we all stay home and remain uninformed about the outside, even if a crisis comes, we won’t know immediately.”

”How about this, when Shuling is on duty, I’ll accompany her,” he suggested.

Hearing Xu Wendong’s words, Xue Yan finally felt relieved. Although Xu Wendong’s cultivation level was only at the Earth Immortal Realm, she knew his capabilities.

If he gave it his all, even a True Immortal level expert would find no advantage against him and might even be counter-killed.

Lu Shuling continued, ”To be cautious, everyone should stay inside during this period. Apart from essential activities, don’t go out and try not to let others know we live together, to avoid unnecessary variables.”

”Also, Erwa, you’ve studied formations during your time at the sect. Although you can’t set them up, controlling one shouldn’t be difficult for you.”

”From now on, when Wendong isn’t around, you’ll take charge of the home formation.”

The young man named Erwa nodded earnestly, flashing a sincere smile, ”Don’t worry, Senior Sister. As long as I’m here, no one will get inside.”

Xu Wendong immediately transferred the seal for controlling the formation into Erwa’s Sea of Consciousness. Once he assimilated this knowledge, he could manage the array.

”Alright, it’s getting late, everyone should head back to rest,” Lu Shuling got up slowly, then looked at Xu Wendong, ”Let’s go out for guard duty!”

Xu Wendong looked surprised, ”Huh? We have to do guard duty tonight? Didn’t you work during the day?”

Lu Shuling wore an expression of pride, ”I love my job, is that a problem?”

Xu Wendong chuckled wryly but said nothing more, following Lu Shuling as they left home.

Once they were far from home, Lu Shuling’s expression turned serious, ”Actually, I want to investigate the cause of Yun Yang’s death, the one who severely injured me before.”

Xu Wendong curiously asked, ”Wasn’t he suffered a deviation and was killed by you all in a counter-attack?”
