Rebirth before Apocalypse: My Whole Family are Bigshots!

Chapter 301: Chapter 301: Someone Wants to Rise to Power

In the early morning, the sun slowly rose from the east.

The first ray of sunlight fell on Zhang Yiming.

Zhang Yiming put the crystal core that hadn’t absorbed a bit of energy into his pocket and looked up at the sky.

The sky no longer had a drizzle. He couldn’t feel the temperature, but he could see that the first ray of sunlight was much brighter than yesterday.

Today is a good day.

The sheet covering the bus wasn’t even wet from the drizzle.

Zhang Yiming raised his hand and pulled off the sheet, casually hanging it on the clothesline.

He turned to look in the direction of a certain room’s window.

The window was still tightly closed.

He could understand Leng Yebai’s feelings. When he first became a zombie, he didn’t dare appear in front of her.

What’s more, Leng Yebai is so much uglier than he was back then.

Zhang Yiming felt a twisted kind of conflict inside.

He wanted Leng Yebai to stay this way so he might still have a chance.

But at the same time, he felt sorry for Xiao Niu, unable to bear seeing her haggard appearance.

The sound of a door opening came from behind.

”Xiao Ming, morning!”

Bai Zhengxuan got off the bus and greeted Zhang Yiming.

”Morning.” Zhang Yiming smiled, ”Why don’t we set off now?”

After becoming a zombie, his sense of hearing and smell had increased a hundredfold.

No matter how good the soundproofing of the bus was, he could still hear the activity inside.

The people inside were already up and preparing things.

He could hear the sound of zippers on backpacks and the sharpening of knives.

”Okay, okay, okay!”

Bai Zhengxuan nodded eagerly.

He also wanted to hurry up and leave. The sooner they went, the better the chance of finding Leng Yebai.

He was old, and he couldn’t bear seeing young people in their prime turn into zombies, nor could he bear seeing his family members lost outside.

Zhang Yiming smiled gently, ”Alright, let’s go now.”

Zhang Yiming stepped forward and got on the bus with Bai Zhengxuan.

Without having time to say goodbye to the Fan Family, the bus had already sped out of the village under Bai Yifan’s control.

Leng Yebai watched silently through the window as the bus sped out, his rotten fingers clenching slightly.

”Thud!”

The rotten fingers banged heavily against the wall, instantly splattering black blood on it.

The decaying fingers made a cracking sound as they broke.

Leng Yebai didn’t feel the pain in his hand.

Now, only his heart hurt; he couldn’t feel any other pain.

”Thud! Thud! Thud!”

Leng Yebai pounded the wall one time after another as if venting, black decayed flesh sticking to the wall, revealing the stark white bones beneath.

Again and again.

Leng Yebai’s eyes grew increasingly fierce, his body wrapped in an almost tangible air of hostility.

”Ah—”

Fan Tangtang suddenly felt a powerful brainwave, clutching her head and rolling on the bed, her face twisted in pain.

This woke up the Fan Family from their sleep.

”Tangtang! What’s wrong!”

The awakened Hu Meiling hurriedly hugged Fan Tangtang, her face full of panic.

”Don’t be afraid, don’t be afraid, it’s okay!”

Fan Liping looked at Fan Tangtang with distress, hurriedly put on his shoes, and ran outside.

”Roar—”

In other rooms, both the old zombie and the Xiao Song zombie let out low growls of pain.

Not just in this courtyard, but the entire Zombie Village was filling with cries of agony.

The decayed claws pressed hard against the temples as if the brain had suffered a strong attack.

Fan Liping’s first thought was that it was a problem with Zhang Yiming.

Zhang Yiming’s powerful brainwaves could easily make many zombies submit.

Seeing Fan Tangtang’s reaction, could it be that Zhang Yiming was having a nightmare?

Fan Liping circled the courtyard and even checked the kitchen, but Zhang Yiming was nowhere in sight.

The bus was gone too!

Fan Liping was dumbfounded.

Zhang Yiming must have already left with the Bai Family to find the place where people had plotted against them.

Then who was the zombie that made Fan Tangtang suffer so?

”Thud! Thud! Thud!”

The sound of body against wall resonated.

Suddenly, Fan Liping thought of something and rushed to Leng Yebai’s room.

”Bang bang bang!”

”Xiao Leng, is something the matter?”

Fan Liping knocked hard on the door.

”Bang! Bang! Thud!”

Leng Yebai said nothing, answering Fan Liping with the sound of hitting the wall.

Fan Tangtang and Mr. Fan’s painful cries echoed, and Fan Liping, gritting his teeth, lifted his foot and kicked open the door.

”Bang!”

In one attempt, the door flew open.

Junk construction as it was, the door lock twisted out of shape with the force.

”Xiao Leng, stop now!”

Fan Liping’s pupils shrank at the sight before him, quickly rushing toward the nightstand beside the bed.

”Thud!”

Leng Yebai ignored Fan Liping, continuing to pound the wall with his black fists.

The fingers twisted eerily, spraying black blood mixed with decayed flesh on the white wall.

The entire wall was marred beyond recognition by the black blood.

”Xiao Leng, look what this is!”

Fan Liping took a silver necklace out of the bedside cabinet, a photo embedded in the pendant section.

In it stood a handsome man and a beautiful woman.

The girl’s face was delicate and gentle, with a hint of playfulness, her blue dress and the sea of pink peach blossoms making her look youthful.

The man’s face was handsome, his cool gaze filled with indulgence.

Fan Liping held up the pendant carefully, aligning it with the rotting eyes.

The cloudy eyes moved slightly, and the previously hostile Leng Yebai suddenly calmed down.

In an instant, all the zombies quieted down, the suddenly strong brainwave disappeared.

Decayed fingers slowly rose, as if ready to take the necklace.

Just as the decayed fingers drenched in black blood were about to touch the necklace, they recoiled suddenly.

”Help me hang it around my neck.”

Leng Yebai’s hoarse voice sounded, rougher than sandpaper.

The tall, upright body slightly bent down, tilting his head towards Fan Liping.

Fan Liping sighed in relief and put the necklace around Leng Yebai’s neck.

”Xiao Leng! Don’t be so despondent. If we manage to develop a cure, maybe you can turn back into a human!”

Fan Liping gently patted Leng Yebai’s shoulder.

Throughout, Fan Liping believed that providence would never completely abandon someone.

Whether it was before the apocalypse when he was starting his business, or after, when the family was torn apart.

Everything happens for the best.

To be with his wife, children, and father during the apocalypse was something not many dared to wish for.

If he could dare to make just one more wish, he hoped the cure for the zombie virus would come soon.

He wasn’t a good man, but he couldn’t stand this world of cannibalism.

”There’s no chance.”

Leng Yebai looked at his decaying fingers, gently shaking his head.

How could rotting flesh become lively again?

”Come on, why can’t you see the light!” Fan Liping looked at Leng Yebai, full of exasperation, ”Zombies can evolve. The more crystal cores you absorb, the more human-like you become. Doesn’t Xiao Zhang look just like a human? If you try hard, you can too.”

Leng Yebai clenched his bloodied fist, his eyes dimmed, ”Can I really?”

If it was possible, why was Zhang Yiming still a zombie!

”Of course, I advise you to seize the opportunity.” Fan Liping looked around the courtyard slyly, lowering his voice, ”I’ll tell you a secret. Someone wants to take the opportunity while Xiao Niu’s boyfriend is a zombie to turn himself into a human and rise to power! Guess who it is?”

Leng Yebai: ...
