Rebirth before Apocalypse: My Whole Family are Bigshots!

Chapter 92: Chapter 92: What Kind of Existence Are Zombies?

Bai Zhengxuan looked at Uncle Wang in surprise, ”What’s wrong with you, why do you look like you’ve aged ten years all of a sudden?”

Uncle Wang rolled his eyes, ”Nothing much, just ate too much rabbit. When we get back, I need to score a few more meals.”

Bai Zhengxuan looked at Uncle Wang with a faint gaze, ”Saying that as if someone actually lit a fire themselves!”

Ever since they arrived at the Fire Phoenix Safety Base, the Bai Family’s bus has been reinforced several times a day, even the kitchen knives were reinforced countless times.

Uncle Wang always had an excuse to scrounge meals every day.

Forcibly reinforcing the bus, buying and selling aggressively.

Uncle Wang picked his nose, rolled his eyes again, and ignored Bai Zhengxuan.

He slammed the gas pedal to the floor; the green garbage truck roared like a fierce beast, madly rushing in one direction.

Bai Zhengxuan silently hugged Uncle Liu, to avoid being thrown out in a car accident.

Too terrifying!

Bai Zhengxuan felt like a frightened old rabbit, silently vowing never to show off grandchildren to Old Wang again!

The green garbage truck charged straight towards the safety base, three crystal cores were tossed into the arms of the Gatekeeper.

The Gatekeeper was long used to it; these three men were too crazy, he didn’t dare provoke them.

Fearing one day they’d get annoyed with him and run him over with the car!

These men seemed very familiar with Captain Zhu, so he could only endure it.

The green garbage truck stopped in an open field, as soon as Bai Zhengxuan and Uncle Liu got out, the door was locked from inside by Uncle Wang.

”I’m going to sleep, I’ll go crazy again tomorrow!”

Uncle Wang placed his feet on the steering wheel and closed his eyes.

In a place where no one could see, a muddled tear rolled down his face, dropping onto the seat.

Seeing Uncle Wang like this, Uncle Liu sighed heavily but said nothing more, pulling Bai Zhengxuan to find a place to sit.

The two sat side by side on the ground, the Bai Family hadn’t returned, so Bai Zhengxuan started chatting casually with Uncle Liu.

”Is Old Wang acting like this because I was showing off my granddaughter?” Bai Zhengxuan’s face showed a hint of regret.

He should have thought of it; besides Old Liu, Old Wang had no other relatives or friends.

It seems he has no family.

Otherwise, with Old Wang’s abilities at the start of the end times, he would surely have protected his family safely.

”Ah, it’s all from thirty years ago.” Uncle Liu wiped away a muddled tear, his mind drifting back.

”In the 90s, Uncle Wang’s family was famously wealthy, his wife was among the first batch of people to become rich, they had an imported car, a son who was a pilot, a virtuous daughter-in-law, and a pair of adorable twin grandchildren.”

”On Mid-Autumn Festival, his son was on holiday at home, the whole family went out for a drive, and on their return, it started raining heavily, that day’s weather was unusual, the rain poured heavily.”

”Two cars collided, and of their family, only he survived.”

Uncle Liu’s voice was choked up at this point.

”From the other car, only one person survived, that person was me.”

”In that car accident, I lost my wife, son, daughter-in-law, granddaughter.”

”Afterwards, the two of us held the funeral together, neither blamed the other, the rain was too heavy then, neither car slowed down, everyone wanted to hurry home, everyone had responsibility.”

”After the funeral, Old Wang and I went back to our cities, apart from going to pay respects on Mid-Autumn Festival, we didn’t see each other.”

”Of the two families, only the two of us were left, we didn’t become enemies, instead we supported each other through the toughest days.”

”When the apocalypse broke out, I knew Old Wang would definitely come to M City. Because I can’t drive, and he can, I waited for him for a few days, and then came to the safety base.”

”When we’re together, we rarely mention the past, he acts carefree and laughs loudly every day, but in reality, he never moved past that hurdle.”

”Neither have I, neither of us can get over it!”

Uncle Liu narrated their past sentence by sentence.

Bai Zhengxuan sat quietly listening, without speaking.

He knew, the scars of the past, no matter how old, couldn’t be easily healed.

What Uncle Liu needed was someone who could listen to him pour out his heart.

Old Wang and Old Liu both seemed carefree, looked crazy.

But in reality, every such person harbors a scar inside, hidden by laughter.

Every touch brought pain.

――――

Bai Xiqin and Leng Yebai sped down the road on an electric scooter.

Leng Yebai tightened his arms, hugging Bai Xiqin, eyes slightly unfocused, as if contemplating something.

”Why aren’t you talking?” Bai Xiqin turned her head to glance at Leng Yebai.

Leng Yebai sighed lightly, tightening his arms gently, and asked softly, ”Xiao Niu, what do you think zombies are like?”

Bai Xiqin instinctively recalled scenes from the previous life.

Her parents and Xiao Fan, all perished in the zombies’ fangs.

”They are bloodthirsty monsters.” Pain flashed in Bai Xiqin’s eyes.

That scene still appeared in her dreams from time to time, couldn’t forget it no matter what.

”Xiao Niu, High Rank zombies are cunning, capable of ambushing humans, commanding zombies, maybe they have a bit of thought, if there were zombies as smart as humans, then...”

Leng Yebai hadn’t finished when Bai Xiqin interrupted him.

”Impossible!” Bai Xiqin shook her head.

How could there be zombies as smart as humans, if there were, it would be a disaster for humanity.

She had never thought there would be zombies with human-like thoughts.

It’s not just Bai Xiqin, no survivor would believe zombies could have unrotting flesh like humans.

Leng Yebai could sense the gloomy aura emitted by Bai Xiqin, so he stopped speaking.

He knew Xiao Niu truly lived through three years of the apocalypse, he couldn’t share that pain, only protect her well in the future.

Just that...

Leng Yebai frowned slightly.

That Zhang Yiming...

Whether Zhang Yiming was a zombie, made no difference to Leng Yebai.

All he cared about were Bai Xiqin and the Bai Family.

As long as they’re well, no matter what heinous crimes Zhang Yiming committed, it was irrelevant to Leng Yebai.

Even if he’d guessed the zombies in S City were commanded by Zhang Yiming, even if he’d guessed the later slaughter was done by Zhang Yiming.

All this, had nothing to do with him.

No matter what Zhang Yiming did, he didn’t care.

As long as Zhang Yiming didn’t hurt Xiao Niu, didn’t harm the Bai Family, Leng Yebai had no reason to oppose Zhang Yiming.

Just that... a young man’s feelings are easy to guess.

His Xiao Niu is so wonderful, naturally attracting many admirers.

He worried whether Zhang Yiming would resent out of love, would harm Xiao Niu and her family.

Zhang Yiming has the appearance and intelligence of a human, apart from the flesh, his thoughts were just like before the apocalypse.

But, can he really suppress his bloodthirsty instincts?
