Capítulo 942: Chapter 749: The General Who Likes to Strip People (Part 2)

“The enemy troops defeated by him ended up quite miserably!” Gu Changsheng leaned against a soft couch, watching Soh Wu below, who was arguing with the Left Prime Minister until his face turned red and his neck thick, laughing so hard that his chest shook.

“Who wouldn’t say? Later on, he became so infamous that the enemy troops had to clash with him. When defeat seemed imminent, they would painfully set fire to everything, leaving nothing for him!” Zhou Mu continued in a deep voice, “In this way, Soh Wu couldn’t make money and became furious. The old man thought his actions harmed the prestige of our Great Zhou, so he summoned him back to the Court and granted him the title of First-Class General. Thus, seated in the Imperial Court, he couldn’t stay quiet. Can you see the Minister of Revenue there? He and Soh Wu are bitter rivals. Whenever the issue of military supplies arises, the two would argue fiercely. It’s said that several times, Soh Wu couldn’t win verbally, so he beat the Minister, knocking out those two big silver teeth of his!”

“Haha… A talent! A real talent! Great Zhou has such talent! How can one worry about not prospering the military and the nation! Haha… I’m dying of laughter!” Gu Changsheng laughed more and more wildly.

“A fool! Trying to compete verbally with civil officials, it’s simply overreaching! Haha…” Mr. Ban Shan, sitting above, laughed and scolded upon hearing this. After all, he was a prominent figure among the literati in the world, his words naturally leaned in favor of the scholars.

“He was certainly unable to win verbally, so that’s why the Minister of Revenue lost two teeth, isn’t it?” Gu Taitian listened and chuckled, speaking with amusement.

“Haha… Arguing in the Imperial Court, only to end up with violence; surely Soh Wu can maintain his status as First-Class General without getting thrown out of the Imperial Court, thanks in no small part to your secret support, Zhou Mu, isn’t it?” Mr. Ban Shan pointed at Zhou Mu and laughed angrily once more.

“Haha…” Zhou Mu laughed awkwardly twice, bowing respectfully, “Sir, your insight is keen; though this person is crude, he dedicates himself to the military wholeheartedly, it’s sympathetic!”

While the three of them were chatting, Gu Changsheng slapped his thigh and sat upright, “Ah! I remembered! Didn’t the evildoer say that the casualties among Soh Wu’s troops were also the fewest? I think it must be because his soldiers had plundered so much wealth that they could wear thick clothes on the battlefield, making them impenetrable by swords and spears! Ingenious! Absolutely ingenious! Stripping others’ clothes to block swords and spears, such a brilliant tactic!”

“Haha…” Zhou Mu pursed his lips at these words and laughed softly, “That’s not entirely without merit!”

Above, several people were laughing heartily, while below, Soh Wu was fiercely arguing with the Left Prime Minister, Sang Jie.

The Left Prime Minister, Sang Jie, subtly explained the benefits of marriage alliances, but Soh Wu didn’t understand. When explained less subtly, this blockhead still didn’t comprehend, and not only did he fail to understand, but he directly called the Left Prime Minister foolishly happy!

“Merchant business, although a low-class profession, commerce benefits the nation and the people greatly. It’s crucial to national prosperity and the flourishing of our Great Zhou. A marriage alliance stabilizes both sides, facilitating the opening of trade routes, allowing our Great Zhou’s surplus money, grain, tea, and silk to be exchanged for Southern Country’s minerals and food…” Left Prime Minister Sang Jie was already furious, plainly stating the cooperation between the two countries at this family banquet.

“Where do we have surplus money and grain in our Great Zhou? Are you fooling ghosts? The old man from the Ministry of Revenue acts as if his flesh is being carved out every time military funds are allocated! How dare you speak of this!” Before the Left Prime Minister could finish, Soh Wu mercilessly interrupted.

“You! You! You!” The Minister of Revenue, innocently taking fire, couldn’t stand it anymore, grumbling and glaring.

“I! I…” Scholar meets soldier, reason cannot be explained — despite Left Prime Minister Sang Jie’s broad knowledge and ability to debate expertly, he found himself losing, “I am truly beaten by you blockhead!”

“Who’s a blockhead? Who are you calling, you old codger, who speaks like Confucius with your mouth?!” Soh Wu, upon hearing this, immediately became indignant, rolling up his sleeves, “There’s guts for us to fight!”

“You blockhead!”

Seeing the martial and civil sides about to come to blows, Lady Soh Wu couldn’t sit still any longer, gathering her skirts and running over from the seating area, grabbing Soh Wu’s arm, and looking at Left Prime Minister and Minister of Revenue apologetically, speaking softly, “Prime Minister Sang and all lords, you speak of benefiting the nation and the people, but this blockhead cannot comprehend! Watch me!”

Lady Soh Wu said, then turned her head towards Soh Wu, took a deep breath, and spoke solemnly, “Husband, didn’t Prime Minister Sang mention earlier that Southern Country has inexhaustible mineral resources? Once these resources are mined, they can be refined into gold and forged into iron. With iron, bows, arrows, swords, and spears can be made, allowing you to equip your loyal warriors with countless suits of armor. When those warriors are equipped with good weapons and armor, isn’t the casualty rate lower? And with gold and silver, your warriors can better support their families back home, let them live well, so they can fight on the battlefield without distractions!”

“Really?” Soh Wu, upon hearing this, widened his eyes in surprise and joy.

“Of course! So, marrying several Southern Country beauties and giving some Zhou Dynasty girls in marriage can hasten the opening of trade routes, allowing your military to benefit early from those minerals!” Lady Soh Wu nodded affirmatively!

“Haha… This is indeed a great thing! A magnificent thing indeed! Come, come, Prime Minister Sang! Prime Minister Sang! Lord Sang! Let’s drink heartily and eat heartily, laughing together!” Soh Wu, upon hearing this, joyfully picked up a wine cup and ran over to the Left Prime Minister.

Lady Soh Wu helplessly watched her husband, sighed, and shook her head.

“Who would want to drink and laugh with you, a savage living on raw flesh and blood? Move aside!” The Left Prime Minister looked at Soh Wu rushing towards him with disgust and dodged to the side.

“Ah! Not foolish laughter! We truly are enjoying ourselves! Prime Minister Sang, you are a true gentleman; you shouldn’t hold grudges like this. Didn’t I say I didn’t want to marry someone like you, but now, can’t I marry?”
