Time Travel: The Best Doctor in Ancient Times

Chapter 922: Chapter 734: Changsheng, Brave Warrior

Zhou Mu heard this, furrowed his brows, and looked inexplicably at the woman standing with striking presence amidst the smoky chaos outside.

When did he ever say he was switching careers to become a cook? His Lady Changsheng must be having one of her fits again!

The commotion from the Imperial Kitchen was so loud that most of the traveling palace couldn’t escape the smoke, causing more and more palace people to gather, gradually forming a crowd watching the spectacle.

The three little Adous stood at the front of the crowd, their eyes sparkling as they watched, instinctively finding it amusing.

Gu Changsheng rubbed her forehead in frustration, pointed to her own slightly charred kitchen, then pointed to the culprit standing at the disaster site, sniffled and said, “Evildoer, everyone has their aspirations. If you want to switch careers to become a cook, that’s fine, just don’t ruin my kitchen…”

“I just wanted to make some egg fried rice!” Zhou Mu had to interrupt his woman’s unfinished words, his brows tightly furrowed.

“You managed to make egg fried rice with the effect of a nuclear bomb!” Gu Changsheng wanted to cry but had no tears left. And damn, it blew up in her back kitchen. Who was she supposed to complain to? The Emperor? According to Yuan Bao, even the Emperor’s Imperial Kitchen wasn’t spared, in fact, it was said to be even worse than hers. They’re probably still starving now!

“Isn’t it you who loves the egg fried rice made by Xiao Leizi the most?” Zhou Mu frowned and spoke in a deep voice, “Because of me, Xiao Leizi hasn’t been able to be by your side these days, so I naturally wanted to make egg fried rice for you myself!”

“What?” Gu Changsheng was taken aback, her mouth fell open in surprise and she couldn’t react for a moment.

“Just wait, I’ve been practicing for a day already, and today I can definitely make the egg fried rice for you. I guarantee you’ll have it for dinner.” Zhou Mu said, turning to enter another kitchen that hadn’t been damaged…

Gu Changsheng watched his back as he disappeared into the kitchen, her phoenix eyes blinked and blinked again, still somewhat unable to come to her senses.

“Lady, how could you let the master enter the kitchen again!” Yuan Bao, who was lying in front of her, anxiously slapped the ground with his hands, speechless and almost in tears.

“He said he wanted to make egg fried rice for me…” Gu Changsheng was still somewhat in a daze.

“The master just said that, and you just listened. He dares to make it, but do you dare to eat it?” Yuan Bao cried. Lady Changsheng, why can’t you let it go? The master made a mess like a battle, setting the kitchen on fire. Who dares to eat what he makes?

“I dare! As long as he dares to make it, I dare to eat it!” Gu Changsheng nodded woodenly, giving a firm reply.

This time, it was Yuan Bao’s turn to be dumbfounded. Lying plumply on the ground, Yuan Bao looked at his lady in disbelief, swallowing hard and only after a while, muttered, “Brave warrior! Such courage! I admire you!”

“Get lost, you Xiao Er Que! Aren’t you going to get up and lend your master a hand?” Hearing this, Gu Changsheng promptly coughed twice, lifted a foot and kicked Yuan Bao’s butt, “Egg fried rice! Egg fried rice! Evildoer, don’t rush, take your time practicing and making it, I’ll wait to eat!”

Yuan Bao: “…”

“Still standing there? Go in and help! It’s nothing if the kitchen burns, but if even one hair of evildoer’s is harmed, be prepared to have your hide peeled by me!” Seeing Yuan Bao looking so complete bewildered, Gu Changsheng lifted her foot and kicked Yuan Bao’s butt once more, urging.

Yuan Bao felt very wronged and stuffed as he resigned to climb up from the ground, reluctantly heading towards the kitchen where his master was, glancing back three steps at a time, his pitiful little eyes constantly praying for Gu Changsheng to change her mind.

“Don’t just watch the fun! Send word to bring the craftsmen traveling with us to come fix this burned kitchen as soon as possible.” She wasn’t like the old Emperor, short-sighted as him and if the evildoer burned it, so be it. She’d have someone repair it behind him so wouldn’t have to worry about going hungry.

“…Yes, Your Majesty!” The Female Official on the side was speechless; their monarch indeed spoiled her husband without limit.

But in other words, the Imperial Husband, or rather, the Son-in-law, a dignified Crown Prince of the Zhou Dynasty, was willing to cook for her without regard for his status, showing just how deep their feelings were!

So could the handsome strong men that Lord Hongyan rounded up from the street really catch her majesty’s attention?

They were deeply worried…

But could only resign themselves to urging the craftsmen Female Officials to clean up the mess for the son-in-law!

Gu Changsheng stood in front of the Imperial Kitchen, listening to the bursts of alarming clanging sounds from the room where the evildoer was still in, feeling her heart leap with worry, “Si Xi, Kun Nu, stay inside and be careful. It’s nothing if the kitchen burns, but if he gets burned or hurt by so much as a scratch, don’t even bother coming out.”

Si Xi and Kun Nu, who had always stuck neither too close nor too far behind Gu Changsheng, felt their facial muscles twitch at these words and could only step forward with the resolve of a warrior sacrificing an arm and plunged into the kitchen.

“Get out of the way! I said I’m cooking, who told you to start the fire? Move aside!”

“Who told you to help beat the eggs? Can’t I do it myself? Move!”

“Don’t wash the rice! I’ll do it!”

“…”

Soon, Zhou Mu’s hysterical shouting echoed from the kitchen, causing Gu Changsheng’s mouth to twitch involuntarily.

After some thought, Gu Changsheng sniffed and chose to leave.

Her evildoer wanted to cook for her, which was a good thing. How could she bear to stop him and squander his sincere love, right?

During her military career in modern times, she had watched dramas where ordinary lovers interacted, and perhaps, in this time and space, she could experience it too?

However, this bloodshed caused by fried rice was more intense than expected.

Gu Changsheng returned to the Council Hall. Although she was in the Great Zhou, news from the Southern Country was still being dutifully delivered by the old ministers who stayed behind. Although she tended to delegate her duties, some significant decisions still required her final say to be settled.

“Reporting to Your Majesty, there are rebel forces in the Guangdong and Guangxi regions of Southern Chen County under the guise of restoring the Sima Clan. Should we pacify or suppress them? Please make a decision, Your Majesty.”

“Suppress them, no, obliterate them! A single spark can start a prairie fire. Our Southern Country has just been established, and Southern Chen was only recently incorporated. We must not tolerate restoration disturbances. Cutting through chaos swiftly will remind those with rebellious hearts!” Gu Changsheng lay sideways on the Dragon and Phoenix Grand Chair, speaking in a deep voice, and then couldn’t help but rub her brow. “I am not a bloodthirsty person, but if the country is not at peace, how can we rest? Let’s do it this way.”

“As you command, I will draft a decree to be sent back to the Southern Country.” An old minister responded with satisfaction, bowing eagerly. This was the Emperor of the Southern Country, capable of being carefree all day, yet decisive on matters of national importance, an admirable ruler.

“Reporting, Your Majesty, the unification of currency in the Southern Country is resisted, whether in the Southern Border Bashu or Southern Chen County. Should we shelve this and plan for another time?” Another old minister stepped forward to report.

“No! To establish a great country, the unification of script, currency, and measurement is crucial. I do not wish to be someone who burns books and buries scholars; thus, we must start with economic reform and act without delay. It must not be shelved!” Gu Changsheng shook her head, speaking with determination.

“But…” This female official, an old minister from the Cloud Palace in Bashu, knew that even the people of the Southern Border Bashu were highly resistant to currency change, making the implementation of the new currency truly challenging.

“No buts!” Gu Changsheng sat up, her eyebrows knitted, looking at the old minister below, exuding indescribable authority. “If implementation is blocked from top to bottom, then devise another method. As ministers of the Southern Country, unmatched in strategy, yet perhaps lacking in the matter of currency, I grant you a solution: contact influential individuals among the Silver Banks, merchants, and nobles throughout the Southern Country, promising them future benefits. Have their Silver Bank premises only accept new currency. If blocked from top to bottom, then have it affect from top to bottom! The unification of currency will soon be a reality!”

The old ministers in the hall were overjoyed upon hearing this.

“Excellent! Your Majesty’s strategy is brilliant!” An old minister stepped forward, speaking excitedly.

“There is someone by my side, Flower Peacock from Yue Xilou, and The World’s Number One Money House is his hidden private property. You may seek his advice. I grant him the opportunity to spread his Silver Banks throughout our Southern Country and allow the official offices to use the new currency from his Silver Banks to promote the unification of currency for our Southern Country…” Gu Changsheng smiled slightly as she spoke.

“Master Lou… is he actually the owner of Huitong Money House?” The old ministers were astonished, unable to believe that such a big fish had been hiding right beside their emperor!

“Indeed…” Gu Changsheng nodded, just about to continue, when suddenly a female official hurriedly rushed into the Council Hall.

“Reporting to Your Majesty, the Son-in-law has burned down another kitchen.”

“What about him? Is he injured?” Gu Changsheng’s heart tightened.

“No.” The Messenger Court Lady bowed her head.

“That’s good, that’s good! Have the craftsmen and female officials quickly repair it.” Gu Changsheng breathed a sigh of relief, patting her chest.

Everyone in the hall covered their mouths with laughter. How many times was this? The third time? Or the fourth time? Rarely did their emperor come to the hall for discussions, and her son-in-law had already caused havoc in three or four kitchens. What could they say?

In fact, they were quite anxious, worried that if the craftsmen and female officials in the Traveling palace did not repair them in time, they would be left hungry…

After dismissing the Messenger Court Lady, Gu Changsheng once again spoke, “Implementing new policies and promoting new currency cannot be accomplished overnight, yet it must be done. This involves merchants, and you may be somewhat lacking in this area, so you must humbly seek advice. Yue Xilou will surely assist you. You must be humble, learn to adapt, and not jeopardize the important affairs of the Southern Country!”

“We are taught.” The old ministers immediately responded upon hearing this.

“The Southern Border Bashu is rich in resources, and Southern Chen County is a prosperous place. Only with currency unification can trade routes be expanded, and the unification of measurements will also come in time. In this way, the unification of script will also come naturally. It won’t be long before my Southern Border Bashu sheds its barbaric image, and a peaceful and prosperous Southern Country can be expected!”
