Chapter 699: Chapter 538: Lure the Enemy Out of the City, Annihilate!

Gu Changsheng curled his lip, ”This Xiao Han Mo is getting better and better. He’s taking advantage of the fact that both of us are guarding the supplies, so he has nothing to worry about!”

She was moved by Xiao Han Mo’s serious instructions just before to make sure they guarded the supplies well, thinking he was meticulous. But who would have thought, Xiao Han Mo was more than meticulous, he was scheming, forcing a siege! The minute a defensive general showed his face on the city tower, he was killed, clearly forcing the troops of the Red Sun City’s central military to come out!

Force the Red Sun City’s central military’s defending troops to leave the city!

The attack on the city had begun, but the arrows on the heavy crossbows were just arrows, and Xiao Han Mo had yet to use explosives!

His intentions were obvious!

Gu Changsheng couldn’t help shaking his head; the defending army of Red Sun City didn’t need to discover anything amiss to see that this was a blatant provocation to make them come out and battle!

This daring Xiao Han Mo!

”Haha... aren’t these the troops you called out? Completely in line with your style of making full use of everything!” Zhou Mu, with his arms wrapped around the little woman in his embrace, couldn’t help laughing out loud.

His laughter left Yuan Bao and Si Xi, who were holding the horse in front of the carriage, looking puzzled.

”Stop mocking your mother, I’ve been played by Little Han Mo with the Black Face; I’m annoyed!” Gu Changsheng said with an embarrassed sniff, sitting cross-legged on the carriage, tugging at Zhou Mu and patting the empty space beside her, ”Come, come, sit down and enjoy the show, it’s none of our business.”

Hearing this, Zhou Mu immediately sat down next to her, their bodies close together, with Zhou Mu’s long arm wrapped around her.

Glancing back, Yuan Bao couldn’t help but curl his lip and exchanged a meaningful look with Si Xi.

I mean, does this look like a battle?

Huh? Whose battle involves the boss hiding in the back, engaging in romance and watching the drama, with an eight-year-old kid directing at the front?

Eight years old! Not eighty, and not eighteen! It’s an age just past weaning!

Watching the increasingly bloody battlefield of the siege, Yuan Bao and Si Xi couldn’t hide their deep concern.

With these two bosses, each more unreliable than the other, he was genuinely worried whether they would suffer a crushing defeat in the battle for Red Sun City!

By his estimates, the odds were nine out of ten, dire!

These two were truly too flippant!

And at this moment, the battle ahead was becoming increasingly deadlocked!

Inside the supply wagons, Little Monk Bu Jie kept striking the little wooden fish, muttering prayers non-stop, which annoyed Wuchang Yue to no end. But in such a crucial moment, she didn’t have time to argue with the little monk and could only stand on tiptoes, gazing at the battlefield with wide eyes...

Han Mo gave orders to strike first, claiming the life of the Huaheng female general on top of Red Sun City, leaving the grand army leaderless. Chaos ensued but was quickly brought under control as the deputy general stepped up to command a return volley of arrows!

But alas, the defending troops barely showed themselves on the city towers before they were relentlessly cut down by arrows from the Female Army, while the bowmen of Red Sun City couldn’t reach the Dark Night Army’s position, their arrows falling to the ground ahead of the enemy!

Consequently, the defenders of Red Sun City found themselves at a loss against the Dark Night Army beneath them!

Staying out of their reach, the Dark Night Army didn’t come close, yet they easily claimed the lives of the defenders on the towers!

Watching one defender after another fail to rise, and the fallen bodies at the city gate, the defensive general, with a vicious face, could no longer bear it and finally ordered to march out and meet the enemy!

”All troops, hear my command, open the city gates wide and follow me out to meet the enemy, and slaughter these damned Dark Night Army!” the deputy general, a woman over forty, was now somewhat infuriated.

”General must not, the Clan Leader of Huaheng has given orders not to open the city gates without authorization!” One of the guards heard and hastily spoke up to stop her.

”A general in the field is not bound by the sovereign’s orders! The Clan Leader has retired to the City Lord’s Mansion, and now the central gate is under my command!” the deputy general responded immediately, pointing to the gate below to refute, ”Open your dog eyes and see clearly, there are only a bit over two hundred people under the city gate, and the one protected by the central military with a Marshal’s Plume on his head is just a milk-scented little brat, this is simply a humiliation to the great army of Red Sun City!”

The deputy general slapped the city wall forcefully, leaving no room for doubt, and spoke decisively, ”Pass on my command, open the city gates wide, and join me in a deciding death battle against them to capture the enemy’s young commander’s severed head!”

”Yes!”

The next moment, the guards hiding on the city tower and reluctant to show their faces responded in unison.

This battle was truly stifling; they couldn’t even touch the enemy’s coat-tails, yet the enemy’s arrows seemed to have eyes, targeting those who showed themselves. Instantly, the blood qi of the Red Sun City’s defending army flared up, filled with indignant excitement!

”Boom boom boom!”

The heavy iron gates of Red Sun City, with the combined effort of dozens of guards, slowly began to open.

Among the Dark Night Army, Han Qiu watched the slowly opening city gate with unblinking eyes and said somberly to the Xiao Han Mo beside him, ”The city gate is open!”

Xiao Han Mo, hidden within the central military, nodded at that moment.

”Kill!”

”Kill!”

”...”

Thunderous shouting erupted from the opening city gate.

Countless soldiers burst forth with weapons in hand from the gates.

”Eighty steps, over a thousand!” Watching the torrent of Red Sun City’s defending army flowing out with great momentum, Han Qiu estimated the number and distance.

”Seventy paces, over fifteen hundred people!”

”Sixty paces, over two thousand people!”

”Fifty paces, over three thousand people!”

As Han Qiu’s voice rang out, Xiao Han Mo’s expression became increasingly resolute, a burning light flickering in his eyes.

”Forty paces, over four thousand people!” Han Qiu spoke again.

”Military crossbows! Fire the arrows! Cut off their route of retreat back to the city!” Xiao Han Mo mustered all his strength and roared.

In the next instant, behind the group of twenty female crossbowmen, another ten female soldiers wielding light crossbows appeared, this time with arrows featuring a fist-sized black grenade tied to them, their fuses already lit!

”Whoosh!”

”Whoosh!”

”...”

Ten arrows sliced through the air!

”Boom!”

”Boom!”

”...”

In front of the Red Sun City Gate, a thunderous explosion sounded, filling the air with gunpowder smoke and endless screams of agony, instantly splitting the defending soldiers pouring out of the City Gate in two!

”Vanguard Army! Kill!” Pointing directly at the four thousand-plus Red Sun City Defending Army, who were left shocked and terrified outside the City Gate, Han Mo commanded in a voice as sharp as a dropped stone.

In an instant, about a hundred dark shadows, wielding daggers in their hands, charged into the chaotic ranks of the four thousand soldiers!

The shock brought by the explosives was like heaven and earth collapsing, utterly destroying their will in a moment.

The military arsenal expertly cut off the retreat route just outside the attack range of the stone rollers and flammable oil on the City Gate, Jin, Yu, Liang, and Yuan lead twenty crossbowmen, wielding heavy crossbows, picking off the enemy crossbowmen on the city tower who wanted to fire their arrows, escorting the Vanguard Army!

For a time, the sounds of slaughter echoed in front of the Red Sun City Gate. The hundred or so Dark Night Vanguard soldiers, like a force unsullied by human presence, swiftly moved like ghosts, their dark red silhouettes wherever they passed, in the smokescreen, wielding the scythe of harvest...

The four thousand-plus Dark Night Army, scared out of their wits by the blast, were caught in chaos when from crafty angles, dagger after dagger pierced their chests, slashed their throats, and severed their blood vessels...

At this moment, in front of Red Sun City, it seemed to become purgatory...

The wails resounded to the heavens, and the bloodshed dyed the western sunset red...

A red flare shot into the sky from the Central Military, and in the blink of an eye, the Vanguard Army retreated like the tide back to the Central Military...

Behind them, the four thousand-plus City Defending Army that had first charged out, were nearly all dead or wounded...

”Kill! No mercy for those who retreat in the face of the enemy!” At the City Gate, the Deputy General swung his long spear, his eyes splitting with rage as he impaled a deserter who was retreating.

The surrounding Defending Army trembled with fear, their guts nearly splitting!

”Divine warriors! Heavens shaking and earth quaking! They really have the protection of the God of the Red Sun!” one of the soldiers uttered in panic.

In the next instant, the soldier’s throat was pierced by the tip of a spear!

”Kill! It is the duty of the Defending Army to charge and break through, anyone who dares to retreat will be shown no mercy! Advance with me!” The female Deputy General commanded with a fierce and twisted face, her analogy noting that once the bow is drawn, there is no turning back—they had no retreat now, ”Spread out from the City Gate in three directions, the flank armies will detour to the left and right to target only the rear of the Dark Night Army, and destroy their supply train! Charge!”

But once outside the City Gate, it was far from just being without retreat—it was a dead end!

Within the Central Military, Han Mo, seeing the crowded heads behind the wide-open city gates, wore a solemn expression on his little black face, ”The master taught me that energy is strongest in the first bout, wanes in the second, and is exhausted by the third. Dark Night Army, heed my orders, spread out in three directions, follow the plan, cut off their routes of retreat, and eradicate the Defending Army that attempts to emerge again from the City Gate! We must not allow their flank troops to disturb the peace of our master!”

”Understood!”

In the next moment, the Central Military divided into three, and once again, the roar of battle resounded.

Just as the great forces were surging out of Red Sun City once more, two explosions sounded from both the east and west sides of the city but were quickly drowned out by the clamor of the battle.

In the rear, Gu Changsheng’s lips curved into a slight smile, showing a sense of relief on his face.

”At such a young age, he knows what to choose and what to discard, not greedy. Changsheng, my love, you really have taught him well!” Zhou Mu, looking at the battle ahead, couldn’t help but nod, acknowledging that Xiao Han Mo, at his young age, had managed to capture the essence of composure on the battlefield, a true sign of a great general!

”Humph, luring the enemy out of the city is his well-laid plan for victory. Otherwise, it would have been two hundred against forty thousand, and our whole army would have been annihilated!” Gu Changsheng’s face wore a proud smile as he spoke arrogantly, ”Now that they’ve split their forces in three and have spread out from the city, I’d like to see what they decide to sacrifice! If he dares let anyone get past the Central Military to the supply train, I’ll hang him on the city wall to dry under the moonlight!”

”Hehe...” Zhou Mu chuckled indulgently upon hearing this.

Meanwhile, on the battlefield ahead, Han Qiu held his dagger with a serious face, ”Seventy paces, six hundred or so to the left and right, eight hundred in the center!”

”Sixty paces, eight hundred or so to the left and right, over a thousand in the center!”

”Fifty paces, over a thousand to the left and right, fifteen hundred or so in the center...”
