Time Travel: The Best Doctor in Ancient Times

Chapter 485: Chapter 343: No Trace of the Doctor in the Entire City

Liuzhou City harbored His Highness Prince Mu, the great dragon, and his face was not easy to save, was it?

The worries of Du Chenzhi had almost turned his hair white!

The old grievances between Du Residence and His Highness Prince Mu had barely been smoothed over by Lady Changsheng, and then came Yhan Qinrui, who was at odds with Lady Changsheng!

What was this?

It was like a leaky roof facing continuous overnight rain, a true disaster out of nowhere!

There was no one more miserable than Du Chenzhi!

”It seems His Highness Prince Mu doesn’t care about Huo Shuixian as much as the rumors suggest,” Du Chenzhi puzzled with furrowed brows, unable to resist speculating, ”Could it be that His Highness still has lingering feelings for Lady Changsheng, or is it because of the Image of the Phoenix Rite, that he treats Huo Shuixian differently?”

”The one who brings the Image of the Phoenix Rite is rumored to be the candidate for the Empress Tian Ming... This suggests that His Highness Prince Mu is also interested in that position...”

The more Du Chenzhi thought, the more he felt his reasoning made sense, and finally, he nodded firmly in conclusion, ”I told you, who wouldn’t be interested in that position? It’s a supremely esteemed role above countless others! Sitting in that position, he could choose any beauty in the kingdom! Poor Lady Changsheng...”

...

Meanwhile, emissaries from Prince Mu’s Mansion and the City Lord’s Mansion were sent to find doctors in Liuzhou City, but to their great disappointment!

Why?

Because not a single qualified doctor was holding a clinic in all of Liuzhou City!

”Hey, what’s the matter? Where’s your resident doctor?” demanded a guard from Prince Mu’s Mansion, grabbing a medical hall attendant harshly.

Though he was but a minor guard of the royal mansion, he had followed Prince Mu in battles across the land, and that resolute and decisive air was not ordinary!

Serving in the royal mansion, having received orders, they must be fulfilled no matter what!

With no trace of doctors across the city, no wonder he was anxious.

The guard he grabbed was immediately scared, stammering, ”Sir, please calm down! Sir, please calm down! It’s not just our shopkeeper; I’m afraid all the doctors in the city are not in their medical halls!”

The law does not blame the masses, but don’t make him the scapegoat! The attendant prayed fervently in his heart!

”I don’t need you to tell me! I’ve searched almost all of Liuzhou City and haven’t seen a single doctor. Good doctors should be at their clinics treating patients, where have they gone? If you do not tell the truth, be careful I take you back to Prince Mu’s Mansion to face charges!” the guard said with a face of urgency and furious eyes.

Upon hearing the threat of being taken back to Prince Mu’s Mansion for questioning, the attendant’s face turned pale, and he hurriedly replied, ”They’ve all gone to Gu Residence! They’ve all gone to Gu Residence! Please don’t capture me!”

Gu Residence?

The guard was stunned upon hearing this, for there was only one Gu Residence capable of drawing all the doctors in the city!

Medicine God Lady Changsheng’s Gu Residence! The Gu Residence of Lady Changsheng, the apple of his master’s eye!

All the city doctors had gone to Gu Residence, and even if he were given three times the courage, he wouldn’t dare go there to demand people!

Wasn’t that just asking for trouble?

With the infallible shield that was Lady Changsheng, the guard instantly felt relieved!

Godfather! No need to worry about failing the mission!

The guard let go of the attendant, patting his crumpled clothes kindly, soothingly said, ”Sorry, sorry, I was too hasty and nearly hurt you, little brother. Don’t mind me.”

The attendant, who had just escaped disaster, was tongue-tied upon seeing the guard’s sudden change of demeanor.

What was this situation?

Why did everyone react like this upon hearing something related to Lady Changsheng?

Indeed, Medicine God Lady Changsheng was no ordinary person! The City Lord’s guards might show trepidation, but even the typically haughty guards from Prince Mu’s Mansion lost their temerity at the mention of Lady Changsheng!

”Um, you go ahead with your work! I’ll wait at Gu Residence for the doctors to come out!” the guard said as he threw down an ingot of silver, ”Here’s something for the shock!”

The attendant looked at the silver thrown into his arms, puzzled, ”This doesn’t feel right! Prince Mu’s Mansion has an Imperial Physician and not calling upon Lady Changsheng, yet specifically seeking a city’s doctor...”

”This isn’t right; I better hurry to Medicine God’s Residence to let our shopkeeper decide what to do!” said the attendant as he ran out of the medical hall.

...

Inside the Gu Residence, Gu Changsheng was explaining to the doctors from all over the city the precautions for surgery, as well as the use of surgical instruments, covering every detail comprehensively!

”Sterilization is very important,” Gu Changsheng pointed at the stack of white cotton cloth and the strong liquor, and began, ”whether it is before or after the surgery, we must ensure proper sterilization because there are many bacteria in places our naked eyes can’t see. Don’t ask me what bacteria are; they are things that can cause wound infections to deteriorate. Just because we can’t see them doesn’t mean they don’t exist!”

”When you deal with injuries in the future, you should also pay attention, first ensure that your hands are sterile, secondly, ensure that the items you use are clean, and also remind the patients to pay attention to hygiene, so as to reduce the chance of infection to the lowest!”

As Gu Changsheng spoke, he took out a set of finely crafted surgical instruments, displaying them in front of everyone, ”I asked Yuan Bao to find skilled craftsmen, and according to my surgical knives and other equipment, these items were made. Though they are not as good as mine, they are much better than the crude tools in your hands!”

Modern surgical instruments, which had been refined through hundreds of years of evolution, far surpassed the small knives of this era!

Gu Changsheng was at a loss for words about the backward medical skills of this era!

Upon seeing those instruments, everyone’s eyes shone brightly!

”Changsheng’s Wife, are you saying, these items, they are all prepared for us?” Hu Yihai looked at the finely crafted tools in front of him, speaking incredulously.

Behind him, Hu Tiandong somewhat shamelessly swallowed his saliva, his eyes sparkling, ”These are no ordinary items! What material are these made from, I’ve never seen it before?”

Upon hearing this, Gu Changsheng glanced at him, ”You don’t need to worry about the material! Look at you, how unambitious you are!”

”Hehe...” Hu Tiandong, upon hearing this, touched his nose and laughed awkwardly.

”Changsheng’s Wife, these items, they are your unique things, we are already grateful that you taught us medical skills, how can we covet your unique equipment? This is absolutely not right!” Elder Xu looked at those surgical instruments, although reluctantly, he still spoke firmly.

”Yes, yes! Changsheng’s Wife, we shamelessly learned your medical skills, we are already indebted to you. If we were to take your family treasures too, that would be a bit too much!” Hu Yihai added.

”Elder Xu and Chief Hu are right, every family has some unique skills essential for guarding their house. Changsheng’s Wife, even though you are a benevolent doctor with the world in mind, you still have to think about your own family!”

”Right! It’s not easy for you and your mother alone to survive; you still need to keep some aces up your sleeve, so you don’t end up harassed or troubled indefinitely by the Princely Heir’s wife trying to provoke you again!”

”That’s right! Practicing medicine is also a trade, how can we learn everything from you, cutting off your own ways of livelihood?”

”...”

Although the doctors were also tempted by those surgical instruments, they still voiced their concerns one after another.

Liuzhou City wasn’t very big, and even though today, Miss Huo’s popularity as the Mandated Noble Lady was on the rise, Changsheng’s Wife was, after all, the Medicine God! The Gu Residence was truly a rising, undeniable prominent family; any little action could attract a lot of attention.

Thus, within just half a day, the troubles caused at the former family home of the Medicine God, Lady Changsheng, had already spread throughout Liuzhou City.

Listening to their words, a genuine smile slowly spread across Gu Changsheng’s face.

Human nature is fundamentally good!

These words, considering her circumstances from Gu Changsheng’s perspective, felt especially heartwarming!

”With these words from you, even if I impart all my knowledge, I don’t feel it’s a loss!” Gu Changsheng said, her eyes smiling, her voice emphatic, ”I, Gu Changsheng, have never been one for trivial formalities. Practicing medicine as a woman, it was you who gave me the opportunity to establish myself in Liuzhou City!”

”To have met you and received your sincere treatments makes me feel it’s worthwhile!” Gu Changsheng looked proudly at the dozens of people in front of her and continued passionately, ”You don’t need to worry about me, I, Gu Changsheng, have never been one to shy away from problems. Medicine is vast and profound; what I can teach you is merely the basics, and yet you worry I will lose my family skills! Haha...”

”You’re really overthinking it! The unique skills taught by my master are acupuncture techniques; have you ever seen me teach you even a bit of that? Rest assured, how could I be foolish enough not to keep some tricks up my sleeve? I still have means to establish myself and sustain my life!” Gu Changsheng said reassuringly, smiling.

Hearing about the acupuncture techniques, the doctors’ expressions relaxed a bit.

Divine Acupuncture Skills, indeed a rare art! With Changsheng’s Wife saying this, their feelings of guilt diminished somewhat.

”If you don’t accept them, then wouldn’t the surgical techniques I taught you be wasted?” Gu Changsheng said, picking up a surgical knife, ”This knife is exquisitely fine, the blade is sharp, the body thin, it can avoid blood vessels! The knives you use for cutting flesh can’t compare!”

”This needle is specifically for suturing, unlike the common sewing needles, indispensable for sewing up wounds!”

”Rest easy about these surgical instruments; I will teach you the methods to use them thoroughly. Once you go back, take some animal hides and practice diligently. Over time, faced with severe wounds, you will not be at a loss!”

The doctors, hearing Changsheng’s Wife say this, exchanged glances.

Selfishly, they wanted to agree!

But, they indeed had already benefited greatly from Changsheng’s Wife, and if they accepted these items as well, it really would be a bit much!

”Well! If you ask me, we learned so many skills from Changsheng’s Wife; even though we didn’t formally become disciples, the merit of a half-master relationship is still there, right?” Hu Tiandong’s eyeballs whirled, he quickly reached out and grabbed a set of surgical instruments, brazenly speaking, ”These items look quite valuable at a glance; if you don’t want them, I certainly will!”
