The Side Character Who Wins by Doing Nothing

Feng Lin’s words made Lu Sangjiu feel a little embarrassed. She had indeed gotten carried away just now...

Although her original intention hadn’t been to drag Chi Yan and Feng Lin down with her, and she was confident she could have survived the situation on her own.

But Chi Yan and Feng Lin had chosen not to leave, facing this peril alongside her. This truly moved her.

Their loyalty was even more touching, especially when contrasted with her fellow sect members, Qin Yu and Ye Zhiyao.

But she wasn’t one for sentimental words, so she just rubbed her nose and said, ”Don’t just pick on me. What about you two? Throwing your lives away, were you?”

The three of them couldn’t help but look at each other. Here in this cramped, dark space, they all looked like a complete mess.

But as their eyes met, they suddenly burst into genuine laughter.

Chi Yan even wiped some soot from his face, shaking his head playfully. ”We’re all a bunch of daredevils. That’s why we ended up together!”

No one said anything more, but they all understood. From this moment on, they were no longer just simple collaborators, but partners who could stand shoulder to shoulder.

The three of them caught their breath, and their gazes involuntarily fell upon the Snow Cloud Beast King, which was also trapped inside the Golden Bell.

The Beast King was lying on the ground, barely breathing, but they all remembered how it had helped them at the critical moment...

That was why it was now under the Golden Bell with them.

Chi Yan looked at the Snow Cloud Beast, puzzled. ”Why did it help us just now?”

Although they weren’t bloodthirsty, they had still killed some of its kind along the way.

Not to mention they had severely injured it, stolen its treasure, and destroyed its home.

’Ahem... Granted, they started it, but from its perspective, we must look like vicious robbers.’

’It’s a wonder it didn’t use its last breath to try and kill us. And yet it saved us?’

Lu Sangjiu and Feng Lin were also completely baffled, looking at the dying Beast King in confusion.

The Beast King seemed to sense their confusion and let out a few pitiable PEEPS.

Feng Lin hesitated for a moment before guessing, ”Is it... asking us to save it?”

Lu Sangjiu was taken aback. ”No way. Demon beasts are intelligent creatures, but surely they’re not smart enough to weigh the pros and cons, are they?”

’It knew to show goodwill by saving them at the critical moment, all to trade for its own chance of survival? Is it really that smart?’

Lu Sangjiu was skeptical, but the beast, as if it understood, PEEPED a few more times. Its round, plump body bobbed up and down twice, as if... it were nodding.

Feng Lin was once again astonished. ”It nodded! It was nodding, right?!”

Lu Sangjiu: ”...”

’This thing... is it really so human-like?’

Although showing goodwill to an enemy to survive seemed rather spineless, compared to most demon beasts that would stubbornly fight to the death, its actions were far more intelligent.

Chi Yan was also quite surprised. He tentatively reached out and petted it twice, discovering that it obediently let him do so.

An idea suddenly struck him. He chuckled slyly and said in a coaxing tone, ”You seem pretty well-behaved right now, but what if you try to kill us after we save you?”

”How about this... you accept me as your master, and I’ll save you. How does that sound?”

They had all witnessed the power of this mutated Snow Cloud Beast. Taking it as a Beast Pet would definitely be a huge gain.

Its spinelessness wasn’t an issue either. After all, it would be bound by a contract. No matter how smart it was, it couldn’t betray its master for personal gain. In fact, being clever would be an advantage.

For once, that goofball Chi Yan was being cunning, knowing enough to try and trick a Beast Pet into his service.

However, the Snow Cloud Beast just PEEPED twice, a hint of disdain showing in its black bean-like eyes.

It hesitated for a moment, then reluctantly scooted closer to Lu Sangjiu and PEEPED twice at her in a fawning manner.

The smile on Chi Yan’s face froze. ”Did it... just reject me?” he said in disbelief.

Feng Lin nodded, suppressing a laugh. ”It would seem so... but clearly, it didn’t choose me either, so Mr. Chi needn’t be too upset.”

Lu Sangjiu let out an ”Uh,” then reached out and poked the beast. ”So... you want me to be your master?” she asked in surprise.

The Snow Cloud Beast PEEPED twice more, as if in agreement.

One would think Lu Sangjiu would be thrilled, but instead, a look of disdain appeared on her face as well.

”I’ll pass. If I’m going to raise a Beast Pet, it has to be incomparably majestic. A little furball like you... you don’t look powerful at all. You have zero presence.”

Snow Cloud Beast: ”...”

It froze, as if it had never expected to be rejected. The entire beast immediately became even more listless.

Chi Yan couldn’t help but gloat. ”Serves you right! You got rejected too, huh? You should have just come with me!”

However, the Snow Cloud Beast simply lay there, completely motionless. It seemed its injuries were too severe, and it had no strength left to do anything more.

Seeing it like this, Lu Sangjiu couldn’t just watch it die. After all, it had just saved their lives...

So, she took a Third Rank Healing Pill from her storage bag and fed it to the beast.

But to her utter surprise... just as she was feeding the pill to the little beast that had seemed on the verge of death, it suddenly bit her finger!

”Tss...”

Lu Sangjiu snatched her hand back in pain. Seeing the crimson bead of blood on her fingertip, she was so angry she wanted to smack it.

But before she could, a complex rune formed above the Snow Cloud Beast’s head and, with a SWOOSH, shot into the space between Lu Sangjiu’s eyebrows.

Lu Sangjiu froze. Her eyes widened in disbelief as she said blankly, ”Did I just... get scammed?”

Chi Yan was also dumbfounded. When he came to his senses, he pointed at the Snow Cloud Beast and cursed, ”Holy shit, you’re so treacherous! You actually forced a contract with the Immortal!”

Feng Lin also covered his mouth with a smile. ”It seems it really likes Mr. Lu.”

It was truly strange. All of its injuries had been inflicted by Lu Sangjiu, yet it insisted on becoming her Beast Pet.

’Could this be the demon beasts’ instinct to follow the strong?’

But soon, Lu Sangjiu’s mouth twitched as she said, ”It seems... it insisted on contracting with me because I have the Cold Ice Crystal Stone.”

The Snow Cloud Beast had formed an equal contract with her. As long as both parties agreed, the contract could be dissolved later.

Clearly, the little guy was full of cunning. Though it had to choose a master, it had also picked the most favorable terms for itself.

After the contract was signed, Lu Sangjiu’s mind was connected to the beast’s, and she could feel an intense desire from the depths of its heart... It wanted to get close to the Cold Ice Crystal Stone.

Lu Sangjiu understood at once. No wonder the little guy had chosen to ambush her, of all people. It turned out it was all for the Cold Ice Crystal Stone!
