Clan Rise: Starting as a Grandfather

Chapter 373: Chapter 358 Wuna, the thieving general, halt!

Beneath the deep night, flames pierced through half the sky.

”Form ranks! Meet the enemy!” Duan Heng let out another angry roar.

At this moment, his soldiers were thoroughly disorganized.

The soldiers outside the camp had not yet evacuated, while those inside the camp were frantically squeezing out.

Xie Yuan chose the right moment to strike, attacking when about a third of the enemy had poured into the camp. The originally spacious camp gate became like shackles, trapping the enemy forces at their throats, rendering them unable to advance or retreat.

Boom, boom, boom~~

The rumbling sound of horseshoes approached, with Yang Zhenshan leading the charge, his spear moving like a dragon.

Compared to Yu Qingyi’s solo fights, Yang Zhenshan was also charging into the formation alone. The cavalry behind him hadn’t caught up, but his charge was not only for slaughter; it was also to tear open a path for the cavalry behind him, showing the way.

The longer the spear, the stronger it is. Wherever Yang Zhenshan charged through, a blood path a zhang wide was left in his wake.

In the blink of an eye, Yang Zhenshan had charged more than ten zhang into the enemy’s formation, with the cavalry behind him only then colliding with the enemy.

Hee-ru-ru~~

Red Cloud raised its forelegs, let out a neigh, and when its hooves came down, two soldiers were directly kicked and sent flying.

”Hahaha, I am Yang Zhenshan, is there anyone who dares to fight me!”

Yang Zhenshan laughed heartily and let out a thunderous shout!

His booming voice, like the rumbling thunder, actually suppressed the chaotic shouts of killing and screams of agony, spreading throughout the entire battlefield.

With one fierce yell, the morale of the Tenglong Guard surged, while the morale of Prince Qing’s guard and the Qinghua Guard soldiers plummeted instantly.

”Yang Zhenshan!”

Duan Heng gnashed his teeth and roared with fury.

A frustrated rage filled Duan Heng’s heart.

He wasn’t unaware of Yang Zhenshan’s prowess, for Yang Zhenshan was a notorious, fearsome butcher.

But he didn’t think he was much inferior to Yang Zhenshan!

That’s why he agreed to Xu Maocai’s plan.

Before leaving the city, he was brimming with determination, imagining he would slaughter on all sides tonight, imagining he could prove his strength through this battle.

Prince Qing wanted to prove himself, to earn the recognition of the officials in Liaodong.

Likewise, Duan Heng wanted to prove himself, to be valued and relied upon by Prince Qing.

They had just risen in rebellion. It was the time to make an impact. Yet at this moment, Yang Zhenshan dealt them a crushing blow, shattering all their illusions.

Feelings of suffocation and rage swelled in Duan Heng’s heart as he unwillingly watched Yang Zhenshan.

Meanwhile, Yang Zhenshan had heard his voice and was heading in his direction.

Duan Heng!

Yang Zhenshan had not seen him before, but by his armor, Yang Zhenshan knew his status must not be low.

Then, he pulled a Short Spear from his back and whoosh! threw it.

The Short Spear flew so fast like a flash of lightning, Duan Heng hadn’t even reacted before it landed in front of his chest.

Crack, the Heart Protector in front of his chest shattered, the Short Spear pierced more than an inch into Duan Heng’s chest. Although it didn’t penetrate his body, it smashed Duan Heng heavily into the ground.

Duan Heng only felt a burst of severe pain in his chest, followed by a surge of sweet blood rising to his throat, filling his mouth, and he spat it out.

”Cough, cough, cough~~”

He coughed violently, and his trusted aides around him helped him in a frenzy.

Yet Yang Zhenshan ignored him completely, and continued to wave his long spear, frantically reaping lives.

Atop the city wall.

Prince Qing and Xu Maocai watched the battle on the field, their faces filled with shock and fear.

”Teacher, didn’t you say that everything was under control?”

”They, how did they come back?”

Prince Qing grabbed Xu Maocai’s collar in a fury and interrogated loudly.

”I, I, this old man didn’t know either!” Xu Maocai was flustered, filled with questions.

Why did they come back?

Why did they appear here?

”Damn it!”

Prince Qing was furious, shoving Xu Maocai harshly to the ground.

”Your Highness, we still have a chance, we still have a chance. Even if they have returned, it does not mean they can defeat General Duan Heng!” Xu Maocai scrambled up from the ground and shouted urgently.

By now, he was completely disheveled, his earlier confidence all gone, leaving only endless panic.

He pinned his last hopes on Duan Heng.

”No chance!” Prince Qing bellowed angrily.

”Look, look, Duan Heng and his men have already lost!”

He pointed outside the city, jumping and screaming.

Xu Maocai looked towards the battlefield. They were far from the battlefield, but under the flames that shot up to the sky, they could barely see the Five Army Camps’ cavalry savagely piercing through the battlefield.

”How could this be? How could this be?” Xu Maocai muttered, eyes vacant.

And just then, a dull sound of horseshoes approached; under the dim night sky, the indistinct figures of cavalry charged towards them.

Xu Maocai looked at the shadows with uncertainty and rubbed his eyes.

Prince Qing noticed them too, his face turning pale.

”Not good! Quick, close the city gates!”

He shouted.

”It’s too late, Your Highness!”

The eunuch Zhang Yu, who had been standing behind Prince Qing, saw it more clearly, ”Your Highness, hurry and leave!”

”Leave! To where?” A confused Prince Qing hesitated.

”Leave Qinghua Prefecture!” Zhang Yu said.

”No, I will not leave, I’m not defeated yet, I still have Duan Heng!” Prince Qing said somewhat frantically.

”Prince, let’s go, let’s find General Ji!”

Zhang Yu knew all too well that tonight was a complete defeat for them. Ignoring the hierachy of status, he grabbed Prince Qing’s arm and fled frantically towards the city!

”Wait for me!”

Xu Maocai came to his senses, only to see Prince Qing had already descended the city wall and was crawling and rolling to catch up.

He was, after all, just an old man weakened with age, and though Zhang Yu was older in years, his cultivation was much higher, something Xu Maocai simply could not match.

”No!”

As Zhang Yu and Prince Qing’s figures completely disappeared, Xu Maocai felt like sinking into a dark abyss of despair.

...

Under the dark veil of night, interwoven with blood and fire, piercing screams echoed through the terror-spreading atmosphere of slaughter.

Two hundred men from the Personal Guard Camp were like the grim reapers themselves, expressionless faces; their eyes held disregard for life, their weapons like death’s scythes, and killing was their only creed.

Compared to the soldiers of the Personal Guard Camp, those of the Five Army Camps appeared slightly more inexperienced. After all, this counted as their first real combat and their first true slaughter.

Yet, they still displayed incredible fighting prowess; their intrinsic strength, combined with the momentum of their charge, meant that even those among them who feared slaughter cast this fear aside as battle filled their minds. They surged forward, focusing only on cutting down any and every enemy before them.

Unconsciously, Yang Zhenshan had penetrated through the battlefield, not an enemy in sight, while two hundred men of his Personal Guard followed silently behind him, drenched in blood, devoid of any extra expression.

The faces of the Five Army Camps’ soldiers were fierce, and some still trembled, whether from fear or overwhelming excitement was uncertain.

After breaking through the battlefield, Yang Zhenshan led the Cavalry in a circling maneuver, heading back towards the field.

The scene on the battlefield had vastly changed. The soldiers from the camps had burst forth, with Song Dashan and Xie Yuan leading their men in a wild rampage.

And Duan Heng’s soldiers had lost all morale, devoid of any will to fight, scattering in all directions.

”Surrender and you will not be killed!”

Yang Zhenshan shouted.

”Surrender and you will not be killed!”

The Cavalry behind him took up the chant.

Charging back into the battlefield, Yang Zhenshan continued to shout.

As the cries grew louder and more numerous, many of Prince Qing’s bodyguards and Qinghua Guard soldiers threw down their weapons and lay prostrate on the ground.

Seeing this, Duan Heng was livid, ”Get up, and stop them!”

His face turned crimson and he bellowed hoarsely.

But his bellow was ineffective and instead caught Yang Zhenshan’s attention.

”Duan Heng!”

Yang Zhenshan called out suspiciously.

He hadn’t known it was Duan Heng before and had only grazed him with a Short Spear, but now he suspected this might be Duan Heng.

”Yang Zhenshan!” Duan Heng’s face paled upon laying eyes on him.

He used to entertain the thought of matching prowess with Yang Zhenshan. Now, he was beginning to fear him. A single attack from the Short Spear nearly cost him his life; how could he not realize the gulf between him and Yang Zhenshan?

Hearing Duan Heng’s shout, Yang Zhenshan was now certain this was Duan Heng!

Without any hesitation, Yang Zhenshan tugged on the reins, and Red Cloud instantly understood, charging straight at Duan Heng.

Duan Heng’s pupils contracted sharply, shouting, ”Stop him!” while retreating.

An instant spread of fear flooded his heart.

A man’s reputation lingers like the shadow of a tree. Not to mention Yang Zhenshan’s renown for fierceness, but his terrifying aura and murderous intent at this moment were enough to chill Duan Heng to the bone.

But he forgot, the being that even he feared, how could the other soldiers not be afraid!

The already demoralized soldiers, seeing Yang Zhenshan’s formidable charge, scattered like scared rats, utterly devoid of fighting spirit.

Duan Heng could no longer care for anything else and turned to run.

Though severely wounded, his pace in flight was still not slow.

Neighing loudly~

Red Cloud, seeing this man daring to flee, let out an annoyed neigh, and its hooves thundered, speeding up in an instant.

Its pace was so swift that even Yang Zhenshan was caught by surprise.

But Yang Zhenshan quickly gripped the reins tightly and let out a hearty laugh, ”Ha ha ha~~You rebel General, do not flee!”

What is as swift as lightning? At this moment, Red Cloud was just that!

Even bearing Yang Zhenshan armored and wielding the Mystical Iron Spear, and despite Red Cloud wearing heavy Iron Armor itself, its speed was terrifyingly fast.

Now, Red Cloud could scarcely be considered a horse anymore, likening it to a demon beast was not an exaggeration.

With a terrifying strength and the intelligence of a child seven or eight years old, it was nearly demonic!

In the blink of an eye, horse and rider caught up with Duan Heng from behind. With spear raised, Yang Zhenshan’s eyes glittered coldly, looking down on the disheveled Duan Heng.

Duan Heng turned to see the raised spear, his pupils dilated in sudden terror, his face showing sheer fright and despair.

Thump!

The spear pierced through his chest.

”Ah~~”

He let out a pained roar, and then felt his whole body lifted off the ground.

”The rebel General is dead, you all should surrender now!”

Yang Zhenshan, spear in hand, hoisted Duan Heng, parading him about the battlefield as one might carry a chicken or duck.

”The rebel General is dead, you all should surrender now!”

”The rebel General is dead, you all should surrender now!”

The soldiers shouted in unison.

Seeing this, the soldiers of the two guards completely lost their spirit.
