Clan Rise: Starting as a Grandfather

Chapter 371: Chapter 356: The Will of the People

Outside the city, a portion of the three thousand enemy cavalry was besieging the women’s training camp, while another part was continuously assaulting Guard City.

Seeing Yu Qingyi lead the house servants and soldiers in a charge, the enemy launched their attack almost at the same moment.

Warhorses thundered forward, their heavy momentum overwhelmingly rushing towards them like a blanket covering the sky.

”Don’t be afraid, follow me closely!”

Yu Qingyi shouted with a deep voice.

Behind her were only a hundred riders, all of whom were the Yang family’s house servants. The soldiers within the city lacked cavalry, and although the constables within the government office all had warhorses, they had already left the city to organize reinforcements from various Thousand Households.

Ms. Wang pursed her lips, lower body pressed down, hands tightly grasping her spear, her pudgy cheeks beaded with fine sweat.

Ms. Li and the Liang family were almost the same.

Although they had mentally prepared themselves, when the moment came, their hearts were still very tense.

Both sides drew closer and closer, about to collide in the blink of an eye.

But just before the imminent collision, Yu Qingyi’s figure suddenly shot up from the horseback, leaping agilely like a mudfish slipping into the dense ranks of enemy cavalry.

The snowy light of the blade flickered, the sharp edge of the sword like a white satin ribbon drifting past.

Blood spattered, the sparkling beads of blood scattering, emitting a misty halo under the bright sunlight.

Bang bang bang~~

One after another, enemy riders were toppled from their horses, and their attack formation instantly fell into disarray.

”Kill!”

Ms. Wang suddenly let out a fierce roar, whether to encourage herself or to release the fear in her heart, her shout was incredibly forceful, startling Ms. Li and the Liang family beside her.

However, the two quickly recovered their wits and, wielding their spears, charged into the enemy ranks.

The Yang family spear technique was swift, accurate, and ruthless!

When they saw the splattering blood, only one thought remained in their hearts—to stab to death the enemies before them!

The trio fought without any technique, relying purely on their cultivation to forcefully combat. However, Yang Mingcheng was always by their side, preventing their formation from being thrown into disorder.

As for Yu Qingyi, she had previously warned Ms. Wang and the others not to charge too far, yet she herself had already plunged into the center of the enemy ranks.

She abandoned her warhorse, her figure ceaselessly leaping and hopping among the enemy riders.

Alright, her way of fighting was completely different from Yang Zhenshan and also didn’t align with the military’s combat methods.

After all, she was formerly a Jianghu Martial Artist and hadn’t undergone military training. Concepts like mutual coordination were completely foreign to her.

Of course, this didn’t mean she killed fewer enemies. Quite the contrary, amidst her agile and rapid movements, her long sword was unstoppable.

Each flicker of her sword took a life, aiming directly at vital points with each deadly strike.

Within moments, there were already over a hundred corpses lying behind her.

”Form up!”

”Big Brother, stop charging!”

Han Fei led a group of soldiers over and, seeing Yang Mingcheng and Ms. Wang and others had charged into the enemy’s ranks, became immediately anxious.

Damn it, you don’t charge like this!

A hundred riders charging into three thousand enemy cavalry, that’s too exaggerated!

Yu Qingyi, after all, was not Yang Zhenshan and didn’t know how to lead a cavalry charge. Yang Mingcheng, though he had read many military texts, had never truly participated in a war. As for Ms. Wang and the three other women, as well as the Yang family’s servants, they were blindly charging forward, driven by sheer passion.

To tell the truth, Yu Qingyi bore the main responsibility for this wave.

However, fortunately, Yang Mingcheng, Ms. Wang, and the three other women, as well as the Yang family’s house servants, all had considerable cultivation. Although the battle was somewhat chaotic for a time, there were no significant casualties.

In terms of cultivation, the Yang family’s house servants were all Martial Artists, among whom quite a few were Postnatal Martial Artists, while Ms. Wang and the other two women had cultivation around the Postnatal Fifth Layer. Yang Mingcheng himself had reached the Postnatal Seventh Layer.

As for the enemy, although they could be considered elite, probably less than thirty percent of the three thousand cavalry were Martial Artists.

”Stop!”

Yang Mingcheng swept away an enemy before him with his spear and roared at Ms. Wang, who had blood in her eyes.

Ms. Wang was startled, her spear slowed for a moment, and a long knife slanted toward her. Yang Mingcheng reacted swiftly, flicking the knife away with his spear.

”You’re yelling at me!” Ms. Wang looked at Yang Mingcheng furiously.

Yang Mingcheng was speechless!

Wife, let’s not worry about these things at this time!

”Stop, we can’t charge anymore!”

Yang Mingcheng stated.

Ms. Wang had no inclination to argue with him at this time. ”Where’s Mom?”

”...”

Yang Mingcheng became even more speechless.

Yu Qingyi’s figure had already vanished in the enemy ranks, and with the enemy cavalry stirring before him, he could not spot her.

Yang Mingcheng thought he was unreliable enough, but the women in his family were even less so.

Not a single one of them eased his worry.

”Big Brother!”

At this moment, Han Fei finally led the soldiers in a charge!

The chaotic battlefield grew even bloodier, the number of casualties on both sides continued to rise.

”Follow me closely, and don’t charge recklessly!” Han Fei shouted.

This was the only place where he had experience leading troops, and he had followed Yang Zhenshan for years, having fought countless battles in the Northern lands.

”Alright!” Yang Mingcheng steadied the formation while fighting, no longer pushing forward but gathering with the soldiers.

Just as Yang Mingcheng and Han Fei converged, Wang Yunqiao led three hundred cavalry from the women’s training camp in a charge.

Compared to the Yang family’s household servants, the women’s training camp was a professional military camp.

They had not only undergone over three years of training but also had armaments and warhorses, making them true cavalry rather than foot soldiers on horseback.

Unlike Yu Qingyi who excelled in fighting alone, Wang Yunqiao was better at leading troops in a charge.

Wang Yunqiao is a disciple of Yang Zhenshan; Yang Zhenshan once said that she has read more military treatises than Song Dashan, and her military capability surpasses that of Song Dashan.

This isn’t flattery, this is the truth.

Although the strength of the female warrior training camp is not comparable to the Five Army Camps, as a complete cavalry unit, with an exceptional leader, the female warrior training camp still displayed a remarkable combat prowess.

The moment they left the camp, they broke through the enemies besieging the training camp. Shortly after, Wang Yunqiao led three hundred female soldiers charging along the edge of the enemy’s formation like a surging tide.

She did not charge into the center of the enemy’s formation but aimed for its weakest point.

”Stop them!”

A man clad in mysterious black iron armor shouted angrily as he watched the advancing female soldiers.

Just as his words faded, a bright sword light pierced through his throat.

Wang Yunqiao watched the agile figure, her bright eyes suddenly turned cold.

”The resolve to break the enemy formation, we will not rest until death!”

This phrase was shouted by Yang Zhenshan; everyone who had been around him knew that by now, this had become a battle state for the soldiers under Yang Zhenshan’s command.

That is to fight to the death!

”The resolve to break the enemy formation, we will not rest until death!”

The clear and sharp voices fused into a piercing killing intent.

The three hundred female soldiers, like a long knife, ruthlessly sliced off a large chunk from the enemy’s formation.

On the city walls, Pang Tang and Dr. Cui watched the battle outside the city, their hearts pounding fiercely.

They had already returned to the Guardian Department, but upon hearing that Yu Qingyi was going out to face the battle, they rushed back in a hurry.

Watching the intense fight outside the city, Pang Tang felt his whole body trembling.

War is always bloody.

And at this moment, the battle outside is filled with madness and bloodiness.

As a civil servant, he had never taken part in a war despite being in office for twenty years.

He was panicking inside.

”Those are?”

Watching the female soldiers tearing a piece of flesh off from the enemy formation like a giant python, he asked with a trembling voice.

”The female warrior training camp! It’s a female army formed by my master and my junior sister!”

A cold voice rang out from beside him.

Pang Tang looked in the direction of the voice and saw a handsome young man standing not far away.

”You are!”

”Student Lin Zhan, my teacher is Yang Zhenshan!”

Lin Zhan clasped his hands in a salute, then looked toward the battle outside the city again.

He didn’t join the battle, as he was responsible for protecting the young children at home.

All of the young members of the Yang family had gathered in the main courtyard, and only a group of old servants were left at home. Lin Zhan was originally staying at home, but he couldn’t be at ease and still ran over here.

Pang Tang nodded slightly, ”I know you, you’re the one who is engaged to the eldest daughter of the Zheng family, right!”

”That’s me!” Lin Zhan said.

Pang Tang didn’t probe any further into Lin Zhan’s identity and continued to watch the battle outside the city.

”I’m not even as good as a group of women!”

”The master often says that women can also hold up half the sky!” said Lin Zhan.

Pang Tang was taken aback at first but then nodded, saying, ”Today, the sky of the Tenglong Guard is being held up by these women!”

Just then, over two hundred figures appeared on the east side of the battlefield.

”Who are those?” Pang Tang asked.

”Those coming from the east should be reinforcements from Mr. Li, the Deputy Thousand Households of the Puhe thousand households!” Lin Zhan said.

Yang Zhenshan had taken all the households away, leaving behind Deputy Thousand Households.

The Tenglong Guard was not more than forty miles away from the furthest thousand households, and even less than ten miles from the nearest ones.

A distance of ten miles could be covered in less than half an hour.

The first reinforcement troops had arrived, and soon after, a large number of reinforcements began to emerge around the Guard City.

These reinforcements came in groups of a dozen or two or three hundred, team by team, swarming from nearby thousand households, Hundred Households, and garrisons.

At first, they were scattered, but they quickly gathered to the south of Guard City.

The three thousand enemy cavalry, like stuck in a quagmire, were surrounded by the continuously arriving reinforcements.

Many of the enemy cavalry had already realized that something was wrong and wanted to flee, but could they escape?

From all directions, soldiers coming to support surrounded them.

Pang Tang stood on the city wall, watching the converging reinforcements, watching the figures from all directions gather, with his mouth agape and his eyes filled with disbelief.

Dr. Cui was also full of shock.

”There must be five or six thousand people there!” Dr. Cui said, somewhat incredulously.

Lin Zhan looked at a group of reinforcing troops approaching the city walls, observing an old man carrying a hoe among them, ”More than five or six thousand people!”

”How can there be so many people?” Dr. Cui asked in amazement.

”Tenglong Guard has twenty-two thousand four hundred military households, with a population of over a hundred and twenty-three thousand, and more than thirty-eight thousand adults!” Lin Zhan said softly.

In fact, the demographic ratio of Tenglong Guard was unreasonable, with a low proportion of the elderly and a slightly higher proportion of children under four.

The reason for this was twofold: firstly, the previous Tenglong Guard was too poor, leading to a lower average lifespan among military households, and secondly, there were almost no elderly among the refugees who had moved in, mainly consisting of adults and teenagers.

The third reason was that the living standards of military households had improved in recent years, increasing efficiency in childbearing, reducing infant mortality rates, and resulting in almost every household having one to three children under the age of four.

Pang Tang’s gaze flickered; he also saw the old man carrying a hoe, as well as young men wielding knives and spears, and even women!

Surprised at first, he then understood why such a scene was unfolding.

The will of the people!
