Clan Rise: Starting as a Grandfather

Chapter 267: Chapter 258: I Have a Child Now!

”Haha, Ma San, no need for such formalities!” Yang Zhenshan leapt down from Red Cloud, looking cheerfully at the distant herd of horses.

The sight of hundreds of horses galloping together was indeed magnificent, and even more spectacular was the fact that these horses could be exchanged for tens of thousands of Silver.

”How has the horse ranch been doing lately?”

Yang Zhenshan walked towards the housing of the horse ranch as he asked.

”Good, all is well!” Ma San said.

Now he was in charge of over a thousand horses, how could things not be going well?

Thinking of those strong horses, Ma San could wake up from his dreams laughing.

Entering the stable, Yang Zhenshan saw many foals, most of which were their spoils of war, with a small part being bred by the ranch itself.

Yang Zhenshan then inquired for a long time about the matters of the horse ranch, and Ma San replied one by one.

After getting enough information, Ma San couldn’t help asking: ”Lord, how should we deal with those cattle and sheep?”

The horse ranch suddenly received three hundred warhorses and five hundred foals. The stables could hardly accommodate them, let alone an additional two hundred cattle and five hundred sheep.

If these cattle and sheep weren’t handled quickly, the forage stored in the ranch would likely soon be consumed by them.

”It’s not difficult, Ming Cheng, after you go back, find Luo Zhen and have him sell these cattle and sheep!”

Cattle and sheep are scarce goods, and they’re not cheap for the common people.

So many cattle and sheep could also be exchanged for a considerable amount of Silver.

Yang Zhenshan didn’t want to raise cattle and sheep, so selling them was the only option.

”Alright, I will go to Luo Zhen tomorrow!” Yang Mingcheng quickly agreed.

Yang Zhenshan then looked at the warhorses outside and asked: ”What’s the current price for warhorses at Chongshan Pass?”

Ma San replied: ”It has dropped by thirty percent compared to last year!”

Yang Zhenshan was not surprised.

The price of warhorses last year was considered normal, but by the end of the year and the beginning of this year, the price of warhorses soared, almost rising by fifty percent.

Now that the war is over, the price of warhorses naturally falls back, and with Chongshan Town’s great victory over the East Sea Hu Clan and having captured a large number of warhorses, it is natural for their prices to plummet.

However, Da Rong has always been in severe need of warhorses. Although the price of warhorses in Chongshan Town has dropped, in other border towns of Da Rong, it certainly won’t.

Yang Zhenshan estimates that it won’t take long for the price of warhorses in Chongshan Town to return to normal, but the Yang family’s horse ranch can hardly wait that long.

Over five hundred foals were manageable, but with more than three hundred adult warhorses, with the current scale of the ranch, it was simply not sustainable.

Moreover, it was soon to be September, and in another two months, Chongshan Town will be entering winter. Before the arrival of winter, the ranch still needs to prepare sufficient forage for overwintering.

”Ask Luo Zhen if they can handle these warhorses?” said Yang Zhenshan.

Now Chongshan Pass will certainly have many horse traders, but those traders are all looking to make a profit from the situation. Yang Zhenshan naturally didn’t want to let the horse traders benefit, so he thought of seeing if the Luo family’s channels could transport these warhorses out of Chongshan Town to sell.

They didn’t necessarily have to sell in the border towns; they could also fetch a good price in other prosperous cities.

Having spent a day at the horse ranch, Yang Zhenshan took the opportunity to leave behind plenty of Spiritual Spring Water.

By the time they returned to An Yuan City, it was already dusk.

”Master, this is a letter from Lord Wang!”

As soon as he returned to the Yang family, Wu Hai handed a letter to Yang Zhenshan.

”Lord Wang, Wang Sheng?”

Yang Zhenshan opened the letter while walking towards the main courtyard.

The letter was written by Wang Sheng, and it was about the rewards for Wang Bin.

Wang Bin was promoted to be an adjunct in the Front Army Commander’s Mansion, and assigned as a Vice General in charge of Beiyuan Town, commanding the Three Camps of Beiyuan Town’s vanguard.

Beiyuan Town is different from Chongshan Town; Beiyuan Town’s Camp consists of nine camps, divided into Three Vanguard Camps, Central Army Three Camps, and Three Rear Camps.

The Three Rear Camps are under the command of the Town Governor, the Central Army Three Camps are under the General’s command, and the Three Vanguard Camps are under the command of a Vice General.

In addition to this, Beiyuan Town has three Vice Generals and eight Assistant Generals, and adding together the Camp and Rescue Camps, there are nearly a hundred thousand soldiers.

The reason Beiyuan Town is so much stronger than Chongshan Town is due to the strength of the Wuliang Hu Clan.

It was fortunate for Wang Bin to be transferred to Beiyuan Town.

A Vice General in Beiyuan Town is much stronger than those in other border towns; he commands more troops, wields greater authority, and has more opportunities for military achievements.

Yang Zhenshan also wanted to go to Beiyuan Town; now that the East Sea Hu Clan has been annihilated, staying in Chongshan Town would likely offer few opportunities for military glory. Without military achievements, one cannot rise through the ranks quickly.

After reading Wang Sheng’s letter, Yang Zhenshan thought for a moment and then turned to go to the study in the front courtyard.

In the letter, Wang Sheng also mentioned the arrangements for Luo Feiyu.

Luo Feiyu was someone Yang Zhenshan had asked Wang Bin to take care of; now that Wang Bin was departing, the arrangements for Luo Feiyu naturally needed to be consulted with Yang Zhenshan.

Regarding this, Yang Zhenshan felt it was best to let Luo Feiyu stay for now. He would make arrangements after confirming his own official position.

He wanted to have Luo Feiyu follow him for a while, after all, Luo Feiyu was Yu Qingyi’s junior brother and also his own brother-in-law. He intended to take care of Luo Feiyu and also find an opportunity to enhance Luo Feiyu’s cultivation and potential.

After writing the letter, Yang Zhenshan handed it to Wu Hai, instructing him to arrange for someone to deliver it to Jia City tomorrow.

...

Entering September, the Yang family became increasingly busy.

First, Yun Qiao was about to give birth, and the maids and old nannies in the main courtyard had already started preparing. The best midwife and doctors from An Yuan City had been invited to the Yang family, personally called upon by Yang Zhenshan.

Although Yun Qiao’s physique suggested that she should have no issues with childbirth, Yang Zhenshan was still afraid of any unforeseen circumstances.

The presence of a midwife was essential; having a doctor at home would at least provide some psychological comfort—better to be safe than sorry.

The second matter was that Yunxue was about to be married. The Yang family had set the wedding date with the Marquis Mansion the year before, which was the eighth day of October this year.

Liang Chu also wrote to Yang Zhenshan, saying that they would return to the capital after the wedding at Chongshan Pass, so the wedding date had not changed and was still scheduled for the eighth day of October.

With one month left until the wedding date, preparations naturally needed to be made.

Lastly, it was time for the autumn harvest. The harvest had already begun, and the civil servants and constables at the garrison office were busy with it, as was Yang Zhenshan who also focused his energy on this.

Although the autumn harvest took place every year and had been completed smoothly since Yang Zhenshan took up the position of garrison officer, he still did not dare to be negligent when facing the harvest.

Aside from the garrison’s fields needing to be harvested, the Yang family’s manor also required harvesting. Currently, the Yang family owned six or seven manors, with land spanning over ten thousand acres and over three hundred tenant households.

With so many manors requiring harvest, the Yang family naturally needed to arrange for people to oversee it.

On the morning of the fifth day of September, Yang Zhenshan went to the office as usual, but just as he sat down in his study, Wu Hai hurriedly rushed over.

”Master, Master, the madam is about to give birth!”

Yang Zhenshan, whose bottom had barely warmed his seat, stood up with a swoosh, said nothing, and jogged all the way to the backyard.

The civil servants and constables inside the garrison office were surprised to see this. Yang Zhenshan was usually calm and collected, so they had never seen him abandon his composure like this.

”What’s happening?” someone who was out of the loop asked.

”I don’t know!”

”Has something happened in the master’s household?”

”The master’s home is always peaceful, what could possibly happen?”

The civil servants and constables huddled together, buzzing with speculation.

At this moment, Zhou Ren came out of his own study and scolded, ”Daring to gossip about the master behind his back, do you not want to live?”

”Do what you’re supposed to do and don’t mutter here!”

Upon seeing Zhou Ren, the group of civil servants scattered, ducking their heads and going about their business.

Although Zhou Ren was still a gradeless official, his prestige within the office had increased significantly over the years, especially after returning from the battlefield, where his aura and authority had grown even more substantial.

On the battlefield, Zhou Ren was not like the soldiers who needed to charge into the fray, but he had followed the garrison’s journey, and he had personally taken lives.

This alone was enough to intimidate all the civil servants and constables in the office.

Seeing everyone disperse, Zhou Ren glanced in the direction of the backyard of the office; others may not know the situation, but he could guess.

It was no secret that Yun Qiao was about to give birth, and given that he usually spent a lot of time with Yang Zhenshan, naturally, he had heard about it.

When Yang Zhenshan returned to the main courtyard, the maids and nannies were already bustling about. Mrs. Song and the midwife had already entered the delivery room, Ms. Wang had rushed over, and was directing the servants to boil water.

”Dad!”

Mrs. Li and the Liang Family followed Yang Zhenshan over.

”Hmm.”

Yang Zhenshan had calmed down by this time, and strode into the main room to sit down, waiting composedly.

There wasn’t anything he could contribute to this situation; he could only wait quietly.

After all, everything that needed to be prepared had been prepared, and he wasn’t really worried, just a bit eager.

”Dad, mother will definitely be fine!” Yunxue and Yun Qiao came over as well.

Yang Zhenshan nodded slightly, maintaining a calm demeanor, but Yunxue still noticed that his eyes were constantly drifting toward the direction of the delivery room.

Inside the delivery room, Yun Qiao seemed very relaxed. She wasn’t screaming in agony like other women in labor, although there was a fine layer of sweat on her forehead.

After about half an hour, the sound of a baby’s crying echoed from the delivery room.

Yang Zhenshan finally couldn’t keep his composure; he stood up with a swoosh.

I have a child!

He walked briskly toward the delivery room.

The crying was loud and clear; indeed, the baby had quite the set of lungs.

As he approached the delivery room, Nanny Lin hurriedly stopped him, saying, ”Master, the midwife is still helping the madam get cleaned up; please wait a little longer before entering.”

Yang Zhenshan stopped in his tracks; men weren’t supposed to casually enter the delivery room as it was considered unlucky, and while Yang Zhenshan didn’t care about such things, Yun Qiao did.

”How is madam doing?”

Nanny Lin said cheerfully, ”Master, rest assured, the madam is all well!”

Right at that moment, Nanny Song came out holding the baby.

”Congratulations, master, it’s a little prince!” Nanny Song said with a smile beaming from her face.

A boy!

Yang Zhenshan revealed a happy smile; he, too, wanted a boy, as women at this time were burdened with too many restrictions, and he hoped his child could have a more free future.

Had it been his previous life, he might have preferred a daughter.
