Clan Rise: Starting as a Grandfather

Chapter 260: Chapter 251: The Battle to Capture the City

”Let’s go!”

Without further hesitation, Meng Temu led nearly ten thousand Northern barbarian cavalry out of the city gates.

It was impossible for the tens of thousands of Northern barbarian cavalry to exit the city all at once; it would take some time for them to gradually make their way through the gates.

And this time was Yang Zhenshan’s opportunity.

”Report, General, the North City Gate of Fushan City has opened!”

Ten miles east of Fushan City, shadowy figures were hidden in the dimness of night.

Stationed at the front of the line on horseback, Zhou Lan turned her head and exchanged a glance with Yang Zhenshan beside her upon hearing the news.

”Move out! It’s our turn to take the stage!”

The next moment, the sound of hoofbeats merged into one, thundering toward the North City Gate of Fushan City.

With vision obstructed at night, the Cavalry’s speed was relatively slow, but they had scouted the surroundings during the day and had already chosen a comparatively flat route for the attack.

The distance of ten miles, in merely a quarter of an hour, they had already caught sight of the North City Gate of Fushan City, and the Northern barbarian cavalry pouring out from it.

”Garrison, charge without retreat, fight to the death!”

As the battle of life and death loomed, Yang Zhenshan instantly surpassed Zhou Lan, with the seven hundred cavalry of the garrison emerging like a sharp sword from the midst of Zhou Lan’s Rescue Camp.

Under Zhou Lan’s astonished gaze, the soldiers of the garrison continuously overtook her.

In terms of charging, the garrison was the professional; in terms of warhorses, each and every one of the garrison’s warhorses was a top-quality steed nourished by Spiritual Spring Water.

Though these warhorses were far from matching Red Cloud, they were not much inferior to Zhou Lan’s steeds.

Before, when both forces fought side by side, Yang Zhenshan had considered Zhou Lan’s pride and thus had not allowed his soldiers to stand out too much, but this time was different—it was a real battle of desperation.

They aimed to seize the city gate, and at the gate were tens of thousands of Northern barbarian cavalry, with tens of thousands of Gorcin warriors still within the city.

There was no doubt that this would be an extremely fierce and bitter fight.

At this moment, Meng Temu also noticed the cavalry charging from the east.

His eyes bulged with disbelief.

He truly hadn’t expected Liang Chu to dare launch an assault on Fushan City at this time.

Indeed, the opening of the city gates was an opportune moment for an attack, but at this time, tens of thousands of Northern barbarian cavalry were gathered both inside and outside the gates.

Was this charge to attack the city or a march to certain death?

”Arrogant!” Meng Temu bellowed furiously, then shouted, ”Stop them for me!”

Almost instantly, he reacted, leading thousands of cavalry who had already exited the city towards Yang Zhenshan.

Under the murky veil of night, two torrents collided in an instant, with Yang Zhenshan leading the charge, confronting Meng Temu at the forefront.

”Meng Temu!”

Yang Zhenshan brandished his long spear, instantly knocking several Northern barbarians off their horses, his eyes fixed on Meng Temu like piercing swords.

He had never seen Meng Temu before, but he could make a guess.

Around sixty years old, surrounded by a group of guards clad in Iron Armor, clearly, this was a person of importance.

”Who are you?” Surrounded by his guards, Meng Temu charged towards Yang Zhenshan.

”Ha ha, An Yuan City’s garrison, Yang Zhenshan!”

Yang Zhenshan’s face broke into a brilliant smile.

Meng Temu, oh Meng Temu!

This was indeed Meng Temu!

There’s a saying: to capture the thieves, first capture the king!

As long as Meng Temu was taken down, the East Sea Hu Clan would crumble instantly.

He hadn’t expected to confront Meng Temu directly, and capturing Meng Temu was just as crucial as seizing the city gate at this moment.

However, Meng Temu was no pushover; capturing him was not an easy task.

But there’s another saying: to shoot the men, first shoot the horses!

The two faced off, horses charging at one another.

In the fleeting moment their figures crossed, Meng Temu wielded his scimitar in a sweeping motion, and Yang Zhenshan, corners of his mouth slightly raised, raised his weapon to block.

His arms, like steel clamps, held onto the spear shaft, emitting bursts of thunderous noise.

With a clang, Yang Zhenshan’s form abruptly shook, as he tightly squeezed his thighs against the horse’s belly to prevent being thrown off by Meng Temu’s powerful force.

Very strong!

Postnatal Ninth Layer!

Compared to him, Yang Zhenshan’s strength seemed a bit weaker.

As the two passed by, just as Meng Temu prepared to turn back and slash again, he suddenly felt his warhorse lurch sideways, tumbling to one side.

Meng Temu’s eyes caught a glimpse of his horse’s hindquarters in the corner of his eye, and then he saw a hoof strike fiercely against his mount’s backside.

Red Cloud let out a cheerful neigh.

Meng Temu was a bit stunned!

It had actually knocked his warhorse over!

Thankfully, Meng Temu reacted swiftly. His war horse collapsed heavily to one side, knocking into two guards protecting him, while he stepped on the horse’s back and leaped up, brandishing his scimitar as he lunged towards Yang Zhenshan.

For an ordinary cavalryman, abandoning his war horse in the current situation would be akin to seeking death. However, for Meng Temu, who possessed the cultivation of the Postnatal Ninth Layer, the war horse was not particularly useful in combat, except perhaps for charging into battle or traveling long distances to save some energy.

”Be careful yourself!”

Yang Zhenshan patted Red Cloud’s back and also leaped up to confront Meng Temu.

In the next instant, their figures tangled in combat.

Although Meng Temu was well beyond his prime years, his strength was significantly greater than that of Duobato.

Despite his aging body, his rich experience made every move and style difficult for Yang Zhenshan to counter.

After exchanging more than a dozen moves, Yang Zhenshan found himself on the defensive, unable to find an opportunity to fight back.

Left with no alternative, Yang Zhenshan could only try to delay and slowly search for weaknesses in Meng Temu’s defense.

Fortunately, his body was far superior to that of ordinary people. Even if he was under pressure, he could hold his own for a while.

While Yang Zhenshan was engaged in battle with Meng Temu, Zhou Lan, leading three thousand from the Rescue Camp, also pressed forward.

However, they quickly found themselves embroiled in a fierce battle.

By this time, several thousand Northern barbarian cavalry had converged in front of the city gate. Although the three thousand from the Rescue Camp were also elite, they could not break through the blockade of the thousands of Northern barbarian cavalry in a short time, and they couldn’t even get close to the city gate, still hundreds of meters away.

The battle took on a feverish intensity, but both Zhou Lan and Yang Zhenshan did not rush to storm the city gate and continued to entangle with the Northern barbarians as much as possible.

About a quarter of an hour into the battle, a dull thudding of horse hooves suddenly came from the west.

With the horse hooves thundering, the ground trembled, and the hearts of the soldiers in the midst of battle quivered.

Many were distracted by the sound of the hooves and looked towards the west.

Soon they saw silhouettes, vague and indistinct, drawing nearer, a surge of cavalry clad in black armor, wielding long sabers, approaching rapidly.

”Kill!”

Among the cavalry, a tall man in silver armor suddenly raised his long saber and let out a fierce roar.

In the next moment, thousands of cavalry charged towards the city gate.

Yunlong Dragon Guard!

Liang Chu’s last trump card and also the main force for capturing the city gate.

Indeed, the primary force for seizing the city gate was not Zhou Lan or Yang Zhenshan, but the Yunlong Dragon Guard.

Now, the forces under Zhou Lan and Yang Zhenshan totaled less than four thousand cavalry. Assaulting Fushan City with four thousand cavalry to seize the city gate was an impossible task.

So, they were merely a diversion to attract enemy fire, while the true responsibility for taking the city gate fell to the Yunlong Dragon Guard.

At that moment, the vast number of Northern barbarian cavalry at the city gate were all mixed up in combat with Yang Zhenshan and Zhou Lan’s forces. With the Yunlong Dragon Guard emerging suddenly, they encountered almost no resistance and charged to the vicinity of the city gate.

The leader in the silver armor took the forefront, charging straight into the city gate. With high cultivation and no master blocking his way, he firmly held the gate with the air of one man guarding a pass against ten thousand enemies.

Following him, the Yunlong Dragon Guard surged into the city gate like a breached floodgate. In just a moment, the gate had changed hands, seized by the Yunlong Dragon Guard, but to completely occupy the gate, they needed to withstand the onslaught of the Northern barbarians inside the city.

The Hu Cavalry outside the city aimed to retake the gate, but the soldiers of the Rescue Camp and the garrison were tightly entangled with them, not giving them a chance to charge at the Yunlong Dragon Guard.

Meng Temu also took notice of the change of hands at the gate, his expression turning incredibly grim, and his offensive became even more forceful.

Yang Zhenshan stood firm like a rock on the shore, no matter how fierce the waves were, he would not budge an inch, his feet seemingly rooted to the ground, warding off Meng Temu’s sharp blade with his iron spear impregnably.

However, his iron spear seemed to be failing him. After the bending of the Gold-plated Flying Fish Spear, he switched to an ordinary iron spear, but such a weapon was somewhat insufficient in a duel between masters.

With each blow, a notch would appear on the spear shaft, and Yang Zhenshan’s weapon was now almost jagged like a saw.

Fortunately, Yang Zhenshan had discovered Meng Temu’s weakness.

The strength of Meng Temu was beyond doubt, and he was a veteran Martial Artist with ample experience; it was very difficult to find a weakness, but there was one that he could not compensate for no matter what.

And that was the weariness brought by aging.

As the battle dragged on, Yang Zhenshan could clearly feel Meng Temu’s power waning, his attacks becoming more disordered, his breath growing increasingly unstable.

Sensing this, Yang Zhenshan grew even calmer. He did not rush to counterattack, but just kept blocking and defending.

Meanwhile, the soldiers from the Rescue Camp and the garrison were gradually gaining the upper hand. Although the Hu Cavalry outside the city gate somewhat outnumbered them, in terms of combat prowess, both the garrison and Zhou Lan’s troops of the Rescue Camp outmatched the warriors of the Gorcin Clan.

After the appearance of the Yunlong Dragon Guard and the seizing of the city gate, the morale of the Gorcin Clan warriors began to decline.

As one side waned and the other grew, the scales of victory started to tip toward the Rescue Camp and the garrison.

The Yunlong Dragon Guard had already stormed into the city, the soldiers of the Rescue Camp and the garrison became increasingly valiant in battle, while Meng Temu’s breathing grew ragged.

Yang Zhenshan felt the time was ripe, suddenly swinging his iron spear in a powerful horizontal sweep at Meng Temu.

However, at the moment of his feint, a dazzling glint erupted in Meng Temu’s eyes. The body that appeared weary all of a sudden became agile, bending and lowering, his sharp blade grazing the spear to thrust at Yang Zhenshan’s abdomen.

Yang Zhenshan’s pupils constricted sharply.

Was this old rascal baiting him into attacking?

He was indeed cunning and strategic.

He was biding his time looking for an opportunity, and Meng Temu was also seeking his chance.

And the moment Yang Zhenshan changed his move was exactly the opportunity Meng Temu was waiting for.

Just as the blade was about to hit Yang Zhenshan’s abdomen, Yang Zhenshan leaped up in the air.

Meng Temu calculated well and seized the moment Yang Zhenshan changed his move, but he still underestimated Yang Zhenshan.

After fighting continuously for so long, his strength had declined significantly, but Yang Zhenshan was still full of vigor. Meng Temu’s blade was ultimately too slow, only grazing the bottom of Yang Zhenshan’s boots, while Yang Zhenshan’s iron spear changed tactics again, switching from a sweep to a Powerful Slash, landing heavily on his back.

With a thud, Meng Temu was indignantly slammed into the ground, his sweat-drenched forehead pressing into the soft earth.

Afterward, Meng Temu tried to roll over and get up, but the cold edge of a spearhead pressed against his chest.
