Clan Rise: Starting as a Grandfather

Chapter 105: Chapter 102 Pursuit

Looking back, he saw Ding Qiu and Song Dashan leading the cavalry charging over.

He seemed somewhat unqualified as a leader, charging too fast, completely disjointed from the troops behind him.

”Stop!” Yang Zhenshan pulled the reins tight.

Red Cloud immediately came to a halt.

After Ding Qiu and Song Dashan caught up, Yang Zhenshan’s lips curled slightly, and he shouted loudly: ”Follow me!”

With that said, he tugged the reins, and Red Cloud galloped towards the North.

Yang Zhenshan was hunched over the horse’s back, his eyes fixed on what lay ahead, his long spear piercing through the cold wind, his beard sticking uncomfortably at his neck.

But he couldn’t be bothered by these distractions now, his target was right in front of him.

That Jiala Ezheng.

The last time he pierced a Jiala Ezheng, he wasn’t sure if that was real or fake, but this time, he was certain it was the real one.

And at this moment, Borja was completely dumbfounded.

They dared to charge out?

And even dared to lead the cavalry into the battlefield?

How could they dare to do so?

Borja was full of questions in his mind; never had he expected Yang Zhenshan would dare to leave the castle to battle.

Facing an enemy force many times their own, did they dare to come out, wasn’t that seeking death?

But what about the outcome?

This wasn’t seeking death, this was to crush them!

”My Lord! My Lord, they’re coming!”

While Borja was still in a daze, Bato said in panic-stricken horror.

”My Lord, let’s run!”

Bato began to fear.

”Run!” Borja snapped back to his senses, snarling sinisterly, ”Shut it, prepare to face the enemy!”

He was a third-ranked noble of the Da Rong Dynasty, how could he flee in the face of battle?

Borja didn’t get to his position today by flattery, but by accumulating it with the actual dead bodies of his enemies.

In fact, Bato was not a coward; he had just been shocked by the sudden turn of events.

Now with a single rebuke from Borja, the viciousness in Bato’s heart scattered his fear.

”Kill them!”

With a ferocious roar from Borja, he charged straight at Yang Zhenshan.

Gazing at the approaching Borja, the killing intent in Yang Zhenshan’s eyes intensified.

In the blink of an eye, the two were almost face to face.

With the rumble of thunder, the long spear thrust out, what he thought would be a sure hit, but as their figures intertwined, the spear point actually brushed past Borja’s shoulder.

The spear tip tore through the leather armor, ripping off a large piece of skin and flesh, but did not critically wound Borja.

At the same time, a sharp blade came swooshing towards him.

Yang Zhenshan had no time to ponder; lifting his spear to block, he leaned back, almost lying on the horse’s back.

After dodging Borja’s blade, another long saber came slashing towards his abdomen.

This saber came from Bato.

Yang Zhenshan, of course, didn’t know this man was called Bato; he only knew this guy was cunning, sneaking behind Borja to attack him.

Unable to block in time, Yang Zhenshan swung his long spear, striking hard on Bato’s chest.

At the same time, a saber blade fell on his abdomen but was deflected by the gold-painted mountain-patterned armor he wore.

Yang Zhenshan felt a series of pains in his abdomen, then nothing.

He straightened up, leading a group of cavalry into a collision with a hundred Northern barbarian riders.

The ferocity of cavalry clashing can only be imagined.

In the blink of an eye, bodies and horses were tumbling.

Yang Zhenshan kept skewering the charging enemies in front of him; his Gold-plated Flying Fish Spear was swung with such speed that after-images appeared.

When the two sides separated, only about a hundred remained of Yang Zhenshan’s two hundred cavalrymen.

And of Borja’s hundred-plus cavalrymen, fewer than thirty remained.

Borja sat on horseback, one hand clutching his shoulder, while looking back fiercely.

”Bato, retreat!”

At this point, he could no longer afford to care about any pride or face.

Defeat was defeat!

Although he had exchanged a move with Yang Zhenshan just now, he knew he was not his match.

What was more critical was that they had lost all advantages.

Under Yang Zhenshan’s fierce attack, the battle on the walls had ended, and all the enemies who had reached the walls had been dealt with.

Not only that, but seeing Yang Zhenshan’s formidable prowess, the morale of the soldiers within the garrison swelled immensely.

Even more so, people like Yang Mingwu and Yang Chengze directly leapt down from the walls.

And began to ruthlessly slaughter the disorganized enemy group.

”Chengze, that one’s an officer, kill him for me!” Yang Mingwu, pointing at an enemy wearing a leather hat in front of Yang Chengze, shouted loudly.

He had been eyeing this guy for a while but had no chance before. Now seeing the man trying to escape, he had no intention of letting him go.

Yang Chengze, hearing the reminder, leapt up in the next moment, stepping on the head of one enemy to jump over, stabbing with his Long Spear.

That man was strong too, managing to block Yang Chengze’s attack in panic and even swinging his long sabre at Yang Chengze.

But before his long saber could hit Yang Chengze, a gleaming spearhead pierced through his chest.

”Kid, you’re still a bit lacking!” Yang Mingwu held the spear, grinning with a smile.

Yang Chengze rolled his eyes at him, not minding his teasing, and turned around to continue slaughtering the enemies behind.

While Yang Mingwu led the garrison’s Martial Artists to descend the wall and kill, Borja ordered a retreat.

When an army collapses, it’s like a landslide, and the once-mighty Hu Clan army, which had come over so robustly and spiritedly, had lost their armor and fled in just over two hours.

By the time Yang Zhenshan and his men turned around, they saw a large crowd surging towards them.

”Charge through!”

Yang Zhenshan once again initiated the charge.

Borja had already decided to retreat by now, so naturally he wouldn’t waste any time, but he no longer wanted to clash with Yang Zhenshan.

Although he had dodged Yang Zhenshan’s straight stab before, he had also been wounded, and he could not be certain whether he would be able to dodge it a second time.

Therefore, he didn’t run towards Yang Zhenshan but dashed towards the western mountaintops, attempting to put distance between himself and Yang Zhenshan.

The scene was far too chaotic. Yang Zhenshan, facing the enemies before him, didn’t notice Borja escaping for a while.

By the time he realized it, Borja had already fled hundreds of meters.

Looking at the panicking enemy troops, Yang Zhenshan glanced back at his comrades.

”Chase!”

While they still had the strength, they would charge into battle once more.

Yang Zhenshan was determined, vowing to capture Borja, the Jiala Ezheng.

The military merit of capturing a Jiala Ezheng was worth more than a hundred heads.

With such a prize right before his eyes, how could Yang Zhenshan let him escape?

Their speed was fast, but Borja’s speed was not slow either. Crucially, there were also hundreds of defeated soldiers behind Borja.

By the time Yang Zhenshan broke through the defeated soldiers again, he was even further from Borja.

”You go back! I will pursue!”

Yang Zhenshan wanted to see if Red Cloud could catch up, as for the others, they definitely could not.

With no other choice, Ding Qiu and Song Dashan exchanged a helpless look and turned back to clean up the scattering enemy troops.

Under Yang Zhenshan’s urging, Red Cloud’s speed increased by a fraction, and after chasing for roughly seven or eight miles, Yang Zhenshan was less than two hundred meters from the enemy.

Two hundred meters were well within Yang Zhenshan’s firing range.

Pulling out a Short Spear from the quiver on his saddle, with a whooshing sound, Yang Zhenshan, utilizing Red Cloud’s forward momentum and his own strength, fiercely threw the Short Spear.

A Northern barbarian horseman thunderously fell from his horse.

”Dammit, this bastard is actually hunting us down!” Borja cursed furiously in his rage, ”Da Rong, damn you to a wretched death. When the time comes, this Marquis will surely flay you alive!”

Though he cursed violently, he dared not stop for even a moment, frantically whipping his horse to spur it into a full gallop.

After one Short Spear was shot out, Yang Zhenshan took out another Short Spear.

The whistling sound of slicing through air echoed, one after another Northern barbarian fell from their horses.

In a short moment, only a handful of Borja’s Northern barbarian horsemen remained.

And these few horsemen were so terrified that they only knew to desperately flee straight ahead.

”To the camp, Marquis, we’ve reached the camp!”

Barto, who had been fleeing headlong, suddenly cried out with surprise.

Borja also showed an expression of joy.

”Let him chase us. I refuse to believe he dares to pursue us into the camp!”

...

On the tower of the Chongshan Pass City.

”Report! To inform the Marquis, Linguan Castle has repelled the attacking enemy and is currently pursuing the defeated enemy!”

That previously mentioned soldier ran over once again to report to Liang Chu.

Liang Chu suddenly lifted his head, somewhat disbelieving, ”Repelled them? Didn’t they say there were one thousand five hundred Hu Zei? They’ve been routed so quickly?”

”Responding to the Marquis’ words, it is absolutely true. This subordinate has inquired multiple times from the Scouts dispatched outside, their responses have been consistent!” The soldier stated affirmatively.

Liang Chu’s eyes shimmered; he still found it somewhat hard to believe.

Those were one thousand five hundred Hu Zei, but how many soldiers were there in Linguan Castle?

Three hundred? Or five hundred?

Even if all the elderly, the weak, the women, and the children were included, the number would not exceed a thousand at most.

Suddenly, Liang Chu stood up abruptly, walked quickly down from the tower, staring out towards the northern Hu Clan’s camp.

From here, naturally, he could not see Linguan Castle, but he could see the Hu Clan’s camp.

If Linguan Castle had truly defeated the invading enemy, then the fleeing Hu Zei would definitely return to their camp.

Narrowing his eyes, he looked towards the west side of the Hu Clan’s camp and indeed saw several figures rushing out from the other side of the mountain.

The distance was too far to see clearly; it just seemed that these Northern barbarian horsemen were moving very quickly, as if they were being chased by something.

Then, another figure darted out from the other side of the mountain. He couldn’t see clearly and subconsciously leaned forward out of the crenellation.

However, as those Northern barbarian horsemen got closer to the Hu Clan’s camp, the clearer he could see.

He clearly saw the person pursuing from behind continuously throwing Short Spears, knocking one Hu horseman after another off their horses.

At this moment, Yang Zhenshan was unaware that Liang Chu was watching him; he had already seen the Hu Clan’s camp ahead and had noticed several Hu Clan Scouts racing towards his direction.

Looking at Borja getting closer and closer to him, he aimed with his Short Spear, squinting slightly.

Throwing a Short Spear while on horseback, although he could utilize the horse’s forward momentum to increase the throw’s distance, it would affect his accuracy.

Just now, he had fired twelve Short Spears in succession, all aimed at Borja, but the results were either misses or hitting the Northern barbarian horsemen behind Borja.

Now, Scouts from the Hu Clan camp had spotted him, and were closing in on his position; If he did not retreat now, he feared he might end up staying here.

He lifted the Short Spear in his hand and hurled it forcefully.

The dull sound of thunder followed the Short Spear as it traced through the sky.

The corners of Yang Zhenshan’s lips slightly curved upward.

This spear would hit its mark.

A strong sense of confidence emerged within his heart.

With urgency, at the very moment the Short Spear was thrown, he turned around.

However, just as he was turning, Borja, who had originally been fleeing, suddenly shifted to the side, raising his long sword in his hand.

Clang!

The Short Spear was slashed midair.

Yang Zhenshan was astonished, but by then, Red Cloud had already turned around, and Yang Zhenshan had lost the chance to continue the pursuit.

Blocked!

He felt some disappointment, but quickly dispelled the feeling.

He had been overly confident before, or perhaps it could be said that he had somewhat underestimated Borja.

Borja, after all, was a Jiala Ezheng of the Hu Clan; if he lacked even this level of prowess, the Hu Clan would have been obliterated by Da Rong dozens of times over.

He was always a person of decisiveness. Since there was no opportunity, there was no need for him to dwell on it any longer.

Compared to killing Borja, what he needed to do right now was to leave.

Otherwise, once the surrounding Scouts encircled him, he would not be able to leave even if he wanted to.
